I just heard the news about the up and coming Disney movie turned TV show and it got me thinking.

In the past, Disney has made TV shows out of "The Little Mermaid", "Aladdin", "Hercules" and "Tarzan". And now, Tangled is next on the list. The Little Mermaid show focused mainly on the emotion of the movie, while the Aladdin and Tarzan shows focused mainly on the action and adventure. The Hercules show focused on a blend of the movie's comedy and adventure, and the Tangled show is said to be planning on doing the same.

But what about The Lion King, a movie that had an excellent blend of comedy, action and emotion, what does it get? A Cartoony show that focused solely on the comedic antics of Timon and Pumbaa, with its only connection to the the original film being a few returning characters and a few fourth wall jokes. Am i saying that i hate or even dislike Timon and Pumbaa? No, not in the least. I'm just saying that, considering how dark, intense, epic and emotional Lion King was, if it was given a TV show, it should have had one that was a bit more serious. And before anyone points it out, someone else already mentioned a possible issue regarding Kimba the White Lion. But surely, there was a way to do a non-comedic show about Lion King that sidestepped that.

...this reads like a complaining thread, which is a big no-no.

I was hoping to avoid making it sound like that, i was just trying to make a discussion thread, which i assumed were okay

They're okay, but there is a rather clear bias in the initial post.

I don't watch many of Disney's spinoff material (though I might take a look at Tangled, since I actually did rather like that movie), but most of them sort of continued the film's story in some way.

I thought The Lion King generally neatly closed off either of its stories, and didn't need more stories. Not to mention that a random malicious animal having a beef with the Pridelands every other week would probably get kind of predictable.

I feel like we should discuss each film or show in its own thread. These general topics don't go anywhere particularly useful.

I really liked the Timon and Pumbaa show, so I'm glad it exists anyway.

...why are you spoilering the title of the new show?
