BBC America, unfortunately, won't have it till the 13th of June to watch it on this side of the Atlantic.
(V)(;,,;)(V)I'm interested in watching the series, but do you think it's a good watch for someone who hasn't read the book, or is having read the book beforehand almost mandatory?
Doctor Who — Long Way Around: https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13536044/1/Doctor-Who-Long-Way-AroundOne episode in and I have not read the books or even a summary or anything - I followed it just fine. Still early days but as long as you pay attention you should be fine.
"These 'no-nonsense' solutions of yours just don't hold water in a complex world of jet-powered apes and time travel."I am not the best person to judge that since I read the book a lot of times but I think it is definitely understandable. The stoy moves forward really quickly so an attention to detail is a must!
www.wattpad.com/126934443-jackalopes-~-wattys2015~-the-paradise-of-tymorI'm liking it but I wish I liked it more. It's mostly quite good an adaptation, I like who they've cast for the main leads even though they don't match what I imagined from the books. Not that these things ever do.
What does bother me is that visually and especially audio wise the whole thing seems rather, well, standard. Like, I can imagine the sounds in the creepier scenes coming from a compilation labelled "Scary Sounds vol. B", and something about the makeup of the gentleman with thistle-down hair makes him look like an actor playing a fae rather than something more convincing.
Anyway, it's been good thus far and serves a a nice refresher of the book, which I'm in no hurry to read again.
The episode last sunday was really bleak...like a complete tonal shift. But I liked it!
And I think the scary sound-effects are from the creaky door compilation, myself

Since the series have now started to air (at least in the UK) I was wondering if anybody have seen it? It is based on the following work: https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Literature/JonathanStrangeAndMrNorrell
I really feel this is a good adaption so far, doing a good work of distilling down about ninehundred pages into a seven-episode one our series. It may be particularly good for those that found the book to be a little on the long-winded side. First episode is still available on BBC UK´s website: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p02mrqzv
