New Avengers Academy RP Thread

Terry however seemed to see some sort of outline, a bizarre, horrifying creature and Rachel running out of the room in a panic. What...the...hell?

He evidently heard the mumbling and got up, walking to Daniel, "Rachel...she was the girl that disappeared, right? I saw her run outta here...followed by a great big...thing."

All of a sudden his head started to hurt. It was like he was walking into a place with very high water pressure. He almost visibly stumbled.

Jake got up and noted the lack of Rachel as well, and put his hand in the air a little, activating his power, an orange glow wafting off his hand...and getting trapped somehow.

Terry looked around, "I...I think someone's messing with space." He started walking over to the door...

Meanwhile, Rachel found herself continuously pressed as she ran away from and then back to the classroom, the mechanical horror trying to break down her force field. It spoke in that dark monotone again, Do not resist...

However, as she lead it over to the classroom, it seemed to spot Terry - and Terry spotted it.

In one instant it seemed to switch targets, one of its arms crashing into Terry, and smashing him through the wall and putting him into a fountain. By all appearances Terry just got thrown through the wall by nothing at all.

However, this it seemed resulted in whatever was going on weakening, people being able to see Rachel out in the hallway...except she seemed to fade into and out of existence. And whatever was attacking shifted right back to attacking her.

Whatever it was, there were now some signs of its presence, holes in the floor where its missed attacks hit were now appearing suddenly.

Before long they found themselves at Cale's office, a rather humble looking abode on campus, though one with two dark blue robots stationed out front.

A deep, impressive voice stated through the door; "Welcome, Lapis and Danelle, please come in."

"Shit!" Rachel shouted. She ran over to Terry and extended her force field to cover them both while she checked on him. "Please be OK, please be OK."

"...ok. Either I'm so tired I'm hallucinating or some really weird shit is going on right now."

Zach stared at Rachel as she faded in and out of view, giving a glance towards Terry, after he had apparently been bitch slapped by thin air.

"Shenanigans are afoot."

The young technopath pulled down his goggles over his eyes and started rapidly switching through the EM spectrum to see if something might show up.

"...ok. Serious shenanigans are afoot. I am getting nothing within the EM spectrum. Not entirely sure how that's possible at the moment."

Zach mutters to himself as he pulls up any sort of superhero or villain related database he can get his hands on to read up on stealth technology. The first thing that came to mind was a cloaking field that beat all the electromagnetic detection methods. Which wouldn't necessarily explain while certain people could apparently view it but not the rest. Something like that couldn't be so selective. And nor would it explain why it seems to be effecting one of his classmates as well.

"Hmmmm, I could just write it off as magic... but let's keep digging."

Lapis looked to his companion, pleading to himself for a way out, but shook it from his mind. If this was the Four Lords, they were going to need his help, especially if Tony took over...

3 years earlier: Lapis sat in a chair, his Four Lords ring glinting in the light from the window. The room was relatively empty save a young man sitting across a small desk from Lapis. "Boss, if we let him go, it'll come back to haunt you." Lapis smiled, "That may be so, but Tony wants what's best for this syndicate and I respect that. We'll just have to trust he won't be brash." But of course Lapis would be wrong.

3 days after the conversation app. 12:34 pm: The fire crackled around the room and another boy about Lapis' age stood in the middle, smoking a cigar as the men around him burned to a crisp. "Tony!" Lapis yelled sending a stone spear through his right thigh before the flames flared again and Lapis was forced away.

Present day: "So what'd you want with us Mr. Bluefield? " Lapis asked, he still hadn't let Danelle go.

By all appearances, the fountain had suffered the worst of the collision with Terry, who was slowly bringing himself back up when Rachel covered him with her shield. The creature was still pounding on the shield with its arms, and the young man could see it fully.

He couldn't just stand back and let Rachel put herself in danger like this. His parents basically told him to stay back and let them handle everything, when they were being hurt just for harboring him. And now this girl was obviously in pain and yet she was putting effort into helping him...

He darted out from the shield, planted his feet briefly in the ground and rushed right at the dark machine. Moving underneath another strike from a limb, and then to the side to avoid another, Terry pulled in close to it and delivered one punch at its center mass.

—-A sudden explosion of bright light that broke whatever remaining field kept Rachel from sight. The creature was sent flying and landed roughly in the middle of the field outside.

The dark machine got back up, but by now whatever it was doing was damaged enough that the students started to see it approaching, fading into and out of readily visible existence.

A collection of screams from the less combat ready students and the teacher, and they evacuated the area smartly enough, though the teacher hit a button to let the school authorities know.

Terry looked back at Rachel for a moment, and then got ready to go again.

Zach meanwhile started to see something odd due to the damage to the dark machine. While there was no EM Spectrum Radiation, it was clear there was an odd network that was just broken - something like a distinct, created spatial plane. It was like a separate spatial dimension was interposed – and now that it was broken and dissipated, there was an abundance of strange energy floating around.

Cale Bluefield was sitting at his desk, examining what looked like a highly advanced laptop before looking up at the students. He was a tall, obviously muscular man – his hair well trimmed and cut, very few signs of age on him, except a few lines near his blue-green eyes. He was dressed in a white button up shirt, dress pants, and a belt at the waist.

He resembled more one of the yuppies of the nineteen eighties than the doughy moguls of the modern day.

“Ah, so you're Lapis. Come in, both of you, have a seat, make yourself comfortable. We have some things to discuss.”

Rachel stared at the hole in the wall from where the thing was knocked through it. Who was I protecting, a goddamn Hulk? "Uh," she said out loud, "I'm glad you're OK? And also, holy shit." She walked over to the hole to see if anyone was in any danger from the thing.

Lapis sat down and looked at Mr. Bluefield, "Sir, that letter assured you knew of my previous engagements with the Four Lords, and I quit them, so don't be expecting me to gift you info cause I don't know anything anymore." He said with all the respect due, but he was sure it had to do with the Four Lords and he wanted no more part of that. That's when he heard the crash and several people shouting. Lapis didn't think twice about rushing out and meeting this threat head on. That was until he saw it's shape, but quickly refund his courage and stared it down.

—-And Rachel would see the thing come charging right back in. In - and out of existence moment by moment, but by now most people could see the damn thing. Anyone watching either ran or went to call the Avengers / X-Men up given this was their school.

Terry moved extremely fast and got Rachel out of the way of the mechanical monster's charge, and going by the fact the eyes started glowing red, it was safe to say it was in battle mode now.

Cale decided to let the teenager go fight if that was what he wanted, after all, discussion could wait until everyone was safe. He took out his cell phone, "Hank, Scott, we have a situation here. It seems there's a...a something outside."

Some talk from the other end; "Yes, from now on there will be measures in place, and I am sorry for..."

A little more talk; "...thanks."

The call ended, and Cale looked at where Danelle had been standing, and sighed. Go on, then...

One of the creature's arms bent and elongated through the air and rushed right at Lapis, aiming to crush him. Cale made note of the monster's design - it looked...familiar...

Lapis grinned at this weird spacial distortion noting there was an obvious warrior ready to fight. Lapis plopped his hand on the lockers and knocked one several feet down at the largest distortion hoping he would hit the badguy.

"Now that is some funky shit..."

Zach stared mesmerized at the exotic energy he was somehow seeing. It wasn't actually in the EM spectrum, but it was somehow still visible. He did his best to record what he could of the spatial distortion still unable to make a proper heads or tails of the data at the moment.

"...ok so possibly magic of a spatial distortion sort? Maybe technological origin? Hmmm kind of hard to tell... man, I bet if I had ever gotten my hand on some Stark tech or whatever Mr Fantastic calls his tech sensors this would be so much easier."

Zach peered out the hole in the classroom at the fight currently going on. He probably didn't need to get actively involved at the moment, so for now he continued to sit on the side lines doing his best to figure out the spatial anomaly stuff. Though he did pull out his electrolaser, and tossed it towards Rachel since she seemed to be lacking any offensive abilities.

"Catch!"

Rachel fumbled it a little, but managed to avoid dropping it. She cautiously circled the thing, trying to figure out a plan of attack. The thought of fighting the thing was ridiculous, but she guessed she was terrified beyond the point of even feeling it any more. She realized she was still wearing her sexy boots. The heels weren't too high, but just the same, it was a miracle she didn't break her ankle running in them. If she was going to fight, she thought it would be best to take them off.

She didn't want to know how ridiculous she looked to anyone around, taking her shoes off in the middle of a fight. She just hoped she'd be able to find them again when it was over.

As the hole opened Daniel turns rapidly to look at where the beast was. To him everything here was far easier to keep track of than usual now he knew what was going on. Everything had this uncanny feeling where space wasn't quite right.

Moving over to Zach in a hurry, "I don't think the origin of this things space warp is biggest problem. More like what do you think it is." He says in a panicked tone.

Looking at his bandaged arms. "I just hope I can still port' with this thing here. Even if I need to conserve my powers right now..." He says under his breath, looking back up and watching what was happening.

And it appeared despite getting struck by the locker, the creature could tell what weakness and vulnerability were, and it immediately rushed right at Rachel, teeth bared and arms darting in. Just before they could hit, Terry again threw himself in the way, grappling with two of the arms while the other two lightly scraped his torso.

If it was most anyone else, the blows would've went right through him. “Rachel...I've got him here. You gotta run.”

The creature promptly started using its free arms to punch and slash at Terry's body, the young man giving no indication of buckling despite the assault, very willing to let Rachel go to a safer distance even if it meant getting injured himself.

It looked to Zach like this was technically simply called Strange Energy. It was given off during peculiar cosmic events and highly advanced technical activities. Meaning whoever was behind this could manipulate such enigmatic Energy.

Lapis rushed forwards, now able to see what was going on, enough so he could pull up the marble to block the hack and slash tecnique, he smashed another locker at the beast, "Don't worry! Get her out of here and I'll hold him off." Lapis pulled up some more marble and melded it to a spear before hurling at what he assumed to be the head of the beast. Just you and me beasty, I've never felt anything quite like you in my life. "And just where did you come from machine?" Lapis caught himself asking aloud.

Rachel wanted to run. She really, really did. She had no idea why she wasn't running. She came up with all sorts of justifications for why she should run - Terry and Lapis could handle themselves, she'd just be a distraction, there might be students needing protection elsewhere in the school, it was a big freaking thing and she was cared out of her head - but instead, she ran through the thing's arms while firing the laser at its leg, then delivered a hard punch to the spot she'd fired on. She wasn't a powerhouse, but she knew that, with her force field up, she could punch through a car's hood.

It looked like the spear punctured the creature's head, but didn't exit the other side. Instead, it just skewered in there and seemed to enter...space.

The creature was sent falling to a single leg due to Rachel's maneuver in turn...and then it got hit at the center mass by Terry, who once again punched the thing into a wall, though this time it didn't go flying through.

It started to get back up, its sensors vaguely seeing a giant blast of sheer force coming down on it...and then the monstrous machine was reduced to a series of scattered limbs, one of its arms being blasted off and landing close enough to Zach...

It looked like the teachers were here.

Scott Summers - Cyclops - ran down from his position atop the building, having scaled it with Pym's help to get a drop on the monster. The leader of the X-Men looked around, at the battered students, and sighed, "Thank goodness everyone's alright. Did that thing seriously hurt anyone?"

Emma spoke to Rachel and Lapis, Whatever that thing was, it possessed a power that isolated you from my telepathic abilities. However, we are not going to allow the same thing to happen twice. Countermeasures are already being created.

Zach used his forearm mounted computer to record all the data he had gathered for further future analysis on his own time, and to copy it and send it off to the school's staff incase they hadn't been recording the event at all.

And that's about when one of the weird thing's arms landed right next to Zach. It might not have been entirely technological in nature, but...

"DIBS!"

He picked up the severed limb and began studying it in detail.

Rachel stared at the wrecked creature. With the fight over, the adrenaline rush wore off, and she started to tremble. Her legs gave out, and she dropped to her knees, shivering and breathing heavily. She brought her hands up to her chest, where she could feel her heart hammering away. Her mind was completely blank, and her eyes were filling with tears, as she just sat there, staring but barely seeing anything.

The first semi-cogent thought she had: Boots. Need my boots. She crawled over to where she'd left them, but she was too deep in shock to actually put them on, so she just sat there holding her boots.

Lapis' grin faded as the beast fell, "I want some scrap metal off this thing Zach, I'll be able to sense the next one." That scrap metal had a different feel from the planet's own but still followed the basic laws of the elements in the metal's side. After being satisfied the beast wasn't getting back up, he returned to the office, "Now it's your turn Mr. Bluefield, what did you need?"

Scott knelt down beside Rachel and gave her a hug, and whispered, "It'll be alright. Whoever did this isn't going to be doing it again. You're safe."

He looked over at the office of Cale Bluefield and got the suspicious feeling Cale knew something.

Speaking of whom, as Lapis returned up there, it looked like Cale was already done working on who might be the cause of this incident. "Welcome back, my apologies for the laxness of my security systems. Trust me when I say that won't happen again. I think I've found who sent that creature."

He pulled his lap top around so Lapis could see, "My old colleague Owen Yan. He studied spatial anomalies." The profile on the computer showed a rather pasty young man, glasses and dark hair that resembled the head of a mop. "That creature had the same signature as one of his mechanical probes. He was last seen in a neighborhood with a peculiar gang running things there..."

Cale left the statement in the air a moment, and then finished, "That gang...being yours."

Zach would find that the arm had some sort of port there, like it could receive data somehow or send it back. And whatever this was had that Strange Energy all over it, though it was inert and by and large harmless. If Zach looked at some of Cale's robots, he might notice it had a similar limb design.

"Well," Lapis began, "fuck my life. I finally get away from that shit and now I have to deal with them all over again." Lapis looked intently on the computer, "Let me guess, you want me to be a part of or lead a team or give information so that you guys can catch the bastard right?" Lapis shook his head, "No, I won't, I just won't go back to it. I can't do anything t-" Lapis looked up to the air duct, "Looks like your security is terrible." His eyes narrowed at the vent, "Move right now, and Tony, just come on out. Should've figured that the operator would've been close by." Lapis was steaming pissed with the fact he got dragged into it anyways, but what the hell ever, he could handle the Four Lords of the North.

Cale looked up at the airduct, and quickly surmised something, "Could he be here to try to assassinate me...? I'm almost appalled at the lack of effort. As for the crack at my security, I was not prepared for space-manipulating biomachines. I, unlike so many, am very well prepared for intruders in the air duct."

Cale promptly pushed a button under the table, and the air duct sealed itself shut. "I just sealed the ducts in this Sector and am commencing sucking out the air in there."

Meaning that whoever was up there would find there would be no air left to breath shortly.

That would be a simple fix, if the man hadn't already accounted for the fact that the ducts close, the sound of flames erupted around the duct and the vent melted away. A man in a business suit and tie landed lightly on the ground, looking around the room, "Perhaps you should get some better security guards, I dispatched of them rather quickly." The man lit a cigar and pulled another out, offering it to Cale, "Sorry sir, my business isn't with you, nor your life. In fact I could care less. I'm here to rebuild a syndicate that your friend over there left behind many years ago." His grinned, seeing Lapis after so long was rather nice, a bitter-sweet, and also painful. His thigh flared up and he winced slightly. "Ah Lapis, I'm sure you can remember me."

Lapis looked at the man who had just fallen through the vents, "Smoking's not allowed on campus friend. As much as I would love to chat and catch up, you need to go, or face me again."

"I beat you once already." Lapis spit on the ground at that comment, "Now you're really pissing me off." The aura in the room could be felt, shifting from calm and sinister, to dark and violent, the tension was almost visible.

Zach takes the arm down to the workshop. He probably still had classes to attend assuming the attack hadn't canceled them, but right now he was far more interested in the supertech arm he was holding. The similarities between the school's guardian androids and the attacker were interesting but of lesser concern at the moment.

Once at the workshop, Zach grabbed a laptop and after making sure it was isolated from any wireless communication methods, plugged it into the data socket on the arm to see what little data he could pull off of it. Chances are any central memory units were in the wreckage of the device and not in the arm, but maybe the creator liked excessive redundancy.

Cale looked at the offered cigarette and smiled lightly, "Apologies, I don't smoke. Its rather bad for one's health."

However, he then seemed to reach beneath his desk and there was a clicking sound like his arm went into something mechanical.

He put the said arm behind his back as he stood up and walked to Lapis' side. "And there is a zero tolerance policy here for gang activity. Lapis here will not be rejoining you - your syndicate likewise is not welcome. My only advice would be to leave. Owen probably told you I'm not exactly a helpless man."

Zach would find a number of truly bizarre systems inside the arm. It looked like whatever had done that interposed a created spatial dimension over the existing one, meaning that functionally, whoever created this creature could make new dimensions wholesale. This was Molecule Man level Reality Tinkering.

It appeared however that the arm in question likewise held some information about targets - it said that people with abilities related to space and fields were to be targeted.

Marked specifically in there was Rachel for her forcefields, Terry Bramford for possessing a measure of the Sentry's powers, and numerous others.

Whoever created this thing was both brilliant and possibly very paranoid if he lacked faith in the whole of his machine being able to be recovered easily.
