"... No, there is a lot in the remains but the Professor hasn't figured out anything new"

A soft voice says, the only voice that can speak in this place. This otherworldly, magical realm, connected to all yet standing where nobody can step into it... none but the chosen. In the sole building of this realm, the Circle, a horned lady converses with a creature made up of white spheres.

":: .: :.:: :... . .:: . ... .... ::: ..: .:.. :.. .:.. ::: ::: :.: :.. ::: .:: :. ... : .: .. .:. ... ..::.." goes out a soft hum from the creature, Bouncer.

"Probably... but you know he is there, so that's a bit of a last resource. The Professor is fast but it's so, so big... we got to give him more time, you know?" says the horned lady, Syl, smiling softly.

".:: . ::. ::: : : ::: .... . .:.. .::. : .... . :: . ...: . :. .. ..:. .:: . :.. ::: :. .:::. : :.: :. ::: .:: .:: .... :.::"

"Yups, if anything we do have that. We know what we are meant to do. And speaking of which, some will probably come soon! I tried making some cookies, so I hope they will like them" says Syl "It's been a couple weeks since there was an attack... so we got to celebrate whatever time of peace we have. In this line of work, little work and boring days are best, don't you think?"

:.. . ..:. .. :. .. : . .:.. :.:: replies Bouncer, sneaking a hand all the way to the kitchen to grab a cookie.

"H-Hey! Hmmmg" Syl pouts at the big, white guardian at that "Those are for the girls! And I already made you a big breakfast... Hmmmg ok, only one, you hear me?"

... ..: .:. . ... :.:: .:..! Hums Bouncer back, in a tune that definitely carries on a joyful melody.

And so, another day in this big world of Seikas begins... the goings on of mortals starting with the rising of the sun... tons and tons of singular lives, drifting by in great teeming cities and small nomadic bands alike... some in peace and comfort, some in conflict and struggles.

A kaleidoscope of color and emotions, this world, this cradle that the beloved Goddess made for us. And the most colorful of them all bear her mark... her power. Whenever it is moving among their tribes, practicing their magic on the outskirts, surrounded by fame and the love of all or making their way quietly to the dream... this world is their playground. Their cradle. Their ward. The place they are meant to protect.

This is the stories, all over this wide world, of these Magical Girls.

Hercine

Corey took a deep breath of the air of Hercine, letting her black hair fly out wild in the breeze...

Not a good idea. The hair blew and flapped around, going against Corey and getting in her mouth. She quickly took a blue ribbon out of her matching blue jacket and tied her hair off in a hasty ponytail with a scowl. She shifted uncomfortably from her stakeout position; she needed to use some of the money she was getting to buy some new pants. Or a skirt, if she was really feeling courageous.

Corey scrunched up a small nose and strode straight up to the building. A fairly successful storage company, Stalvern Storage took pride in their ability to rent out entire warehouses to various business ventures. This building inparticular was unfortunately used for smuggling. The perfect line of work in a stable, centralized city like Hercine, regardless of what was getting smuggled. People? Drugs? Weapons? It was organized crime, and was due for extermination same as anything else. The building only a single story, around 250 square feet, with a staging ground out back for carriages, this was not necessarily the biggest production in the city, but that also meant it wouldn't take much time for Corey to deal with it.

As usual by this point, she stayed out of Transformation unless absolutely necessary. Corey picked up a stray plank and kicked the door in. Guards assailed her, but a combination of experience and natural talent allowed her to begin hewing through their ranks. In the back of her head, she prayed they wouldn't call for backup, or that another girl like her wouldn't show up—and a smaller, more perverse part prayed they would.

Hercine

Robin raised an eyebrow as she passed by a warehouse on her way home from the academy and noted several cries and impacts coming from the interior. Let's go see what all the fuss is about. No one noticed her as she strode over, a perk of looking so bland untransformed. The brunette took a quick peak inside and saw the one girl going up against a whole gang. Well isn't this interesting. I think I'll watch for now, but this could be fun.

Sacred Crescentpeak Hold - Northstein

Carved into a jut of rock facing the mountains, at the edge of a great forest in the heart of Northstein, laid the masonry of beastmen in worship and awe of nature. More a ritual ground than a place of living, the Crestpeak Hold was crafted in a spot of great spiritual presence - the priests of wolves and foxes noting how from the edge of the jut, on a night of the full moon, it seemed as though the mountains themselves stretched up at the sphere of white, as if nature itself were in worship of her. Even the beasts seemed reverent of the simple stone-cut temple, as it seemed they bore no violence there.

To those who knew its ancient history, Crestpeak would be a wonder. Unfortunately, its littlest visitor was shivering and trembling too much to enjoy it. "A-choo!" Lupi turned her head in midsneeze and promptly flailed her arms around as the wind carried it back to her face. "G-gah!" Accompanying hunter-priests chuckled at the pixie's antics. Magical girl or no, silliness is always rewarded with laughter.

C-Cold... I'm usually an outdoorsy type, but what I wouldn't give for a nice fire right about now... She didn't dare use her flame magic though. Not after what happened last time.

Rellis, Argila Cathedral

Once again, it was time to ask for forgiveness.

Not that Malika wanted to, just that the head priest was forcing her to after she had rigged stink bombs inside the incense burners. That was apparently "not funny" and "tantamount sacrilege", but what did he Know? A twisted smile appeared on the young priestess's face. That prank was hilarious, but she did admit that she had been slacking off in quality lately.

But before she resumed her "practice", she had to go through the routine of prostrating herself before the Altar and beg for forgiveness. The smile disappeared from her face. It's not like the Good Lady hated her, else she wouldn't have the power that she did, so it was probably the priest just putting his own ideals as those of the Goddess.

Regardless, she kneeled down before the Altar, and-

Something unusual caught her eye. Carved into the base of the Altar was a small sigil she had never noticed before. Curiosity over took her as she reached out to touch it.

Parn Captial

A half elven girl from the country and her dragon walked through the street. Being the first time the girl ever set in a city like this, she couldn't help but have a look at the sights. Some of the services and items this place provided were things Kate never heard of before, and most of these things were definitely outside of her pocket money's price range.

There was one thing that was bugging her as she was walking in the city.

Taking a look back on the dragon on her shoulder, Kate sent a telepathic message to the reptile "You sure I shouldn't float up there Scales, I'd be able to see more of the city and we'd be able to move faster!"

Scales retorted back "Believe me, you'll be able to see more if you just stick your feet on the ground and act like a normal girl. The minute you show off your powers, recruiters will find you and push you into swearing to the emperor. And that's going to be restrictive on your plans of adventuring..."

Scales unfortunately had a point. Still..."Can I at least find somewhere to swtich to my Magical Girl costume? My clothes are so plain."

"That might be more obvious than floating about."

"That doesn't stop you from wearing your red bandanna."

Scales was actually taken aback by Kate's comment. "W-well it's not unusual for people to dress up their pets. Plus I look better in it."

Passing by an empty street something stood out. There was a bit of graffiti on the wall but there was one mark that just stood out to Kate. She walked into the street, she had to get closer to the mark. Scales caught on Kate was acting a bit weird. Before he could send the message however, Kate had already touched the image...

The Dream

Ending up what seemed to be a Tower, Kate was in awe at what just happened.

"Wow Scales, the doors of the city open with a simple push of a symbol! I wonder how they were able to fit a place like this in the streets..."

Whud! Corey slammed the plank against one more face before it snapped in half. Without missing a beat, she grabbed one guard's shield and just started clubbing folks with that too. Then she lost her grip on that and it went spinning out of her hands in time for her to catch a fist straight to the face. Corey was not good at taking hits, and feel flat on her back. The goons went to cut off her escape, but she got herself in gear with a quick backflip back onto her feet. She turned for the exit, looking for a spot to bottleneck the goons, when she spotted—dammit, seriously, another Magical Girl?! She made a break for it, waving. "Hey, what's up? I got this, but you might wanna back off before they—"

A crossbow bolt slammed into the ground a few feet to the left of Corey's legs. "Before they break out the crossbows."

The Magical Girls would be standing in the church or street no longer... her altar and wall replaced by a tall stone covered in sigils... specifically the ones that she had seen before. The floor was made of stone, with carved magical symbols on it, softly glowing in a blue light... and all around her there were shimmering walls made seemingly of pure magic, in the form of an elaborate tower, going ever upwards... quite a shift in locale.

Then, however, they would hear something... a lightly little chirp. Behind her there was a creature... small and furry, more catlike than doglike. It had big ears perked upwards, a small nimble, furry body and a big, long bushy tail. Its fur was light yellow in tone, with big, cute blue eyes and thin blue lines going around its body, softly glowing like the floor. It opened up its small muzzle again and let out it's soft, friendly chirp before moving back... there was an arc now on the magical wall... opening up into a mystical looking forest, with low hanging mist shifting at the root of trees... with small creatures moving all around... and a glowing, golden road leading further in.

Both girls were alone, however... they both appeared in different Gatestone in the forest and they wouldn't meet until they get to the Circle.

If I'm sure of something it's that I'm not sure of anything.

Snow crunched under Chiara's feet as she walked through the snow. Her magical girl costume did an admirable job of keeping the cold out, but it unfortunately couldn't do anything about the light even know glinting off the snow and giving her the beginnings of a headache.

Chiara squinted upwards as her group reached the edge of a mountain. "Well, this is the place, apparently. Crestpeak Hold. Shall we head up?" she asked, turning to her companions.

Frigg adjusted the straps of her belts and looked up to the peak, squinting against the glare. “But of course, my friend,” she told Chiara with a grin. “The Hold is famous; now that we are here, not visiting would be a deep shame, no?”
She looked at the third Magical Girl. “You alright, Taki?”

Outskirts of Parn Empire

The outskirts of Parn Empire has not much going on with them, just plains and gentle hills, with occasional transport cafes doting along the dirt road that leads to the capital that services cart drivers and rich tourists alike. Lisha and Pvt. QTpie stopped at one of them. the fairy and the human girl had just finished their meal of fried chicken and waffles, the old classical food of the Parn Capital's ghetto.

"Look, Qtpie," Lisha said as she wiped her hands from oil and breadcrumbs. "Are you sure that this girl's even existed or is it just some shady rumour spread by bored peasants thinking that anything weird is the works of a magical girl?"

"Shit, I dunno," the fairy shrugged as she fly from the table to Lisha's left shoulder. When the fairy stands on the shoulder, one could see that it's about the height of Lisha's head. "That's all they wrote but apparently there's enough anonymous eyewitnesses and testimonies to warrant a search for this girl."

"Important enough that they sent me to do this instead of a search squad on the peasant's words alone."

QTpie rolled her eyes at Lisha's sarcasm and explained "Look, this magical girl is special-"

"Every damn magical girl is fucking special."

"Yeah but some are more special than others. This one is rumoured to be a fell caster. Dangerous types, these fellas. Plus, dem wizards folks said that shadow and fell types have good synergy with each other. We already have you sooo-"

"Oh, so the higher ups want me to kiss and make up with this girl to create the ultimate Parn duo."

"Might as well be, because you need a girlfriend to pull that stick out of your ass."

"Piss off," Lisha lazily retorted as she stood up and place 10 bucks on the table and left. On the way out, all eyes were on her and whispers of gossip were heard. Some mindless praises, some retched lies, mindless garbles, all of them, she thought while she pull her hood over head and exited the cafe. To shield herself from the hot afternoon sun, Lisha cast a shadow, from nowhere else but her half-upraised hands, over herself to create a nice shade. Oh, the little things you can do with such powers.

"Now, if I were a fell caster, where would I be?" she thought out loud.

"In that cafe?" QTpie quipped.

"Funny," Lisha said as she take a few steps forward before having a thought that, even if her smartass friend was joking, she might have a point. After all, the fell girl might blend right in.

Wah- Mira fell on the floor, or the ground, as the case may be. She looked up and saw a tree, which she'd apparently fallen out of. Her head pounded, and not from the fall. Looking around, she noticed her bag tied to one of the limbs of the tree. She sighed in relief. After last night's debauchery, she wouldn't have been surprised if someone had stolen something.

She got up, brushed herself off, and looked around. So, where was I? Oh yeah! She scampered off to some ruins in the distance.

Hercine: Across the street from the warehouse.

Anya observed the ongoing commotion taking place in the warehouse intently from atop a wall that separated the street from the canal. She was debating whether or not to get involved while toying with a canteen that was hanging around her neck by a thin leather strap.

“What do you think Undo?” Anya put the canteen up to her ear and the water inside the canteen sloshed around and a voice spoke to her.

“Well, getting involved might not be the be the best thing for your anonymity.”

Anya furrowed her brow. “I was actually considering becoming open about it.”

“Really?” Undo thought about the perks that being openly a magical girl would bring. “Why, you’d be a celebrity. Think of all the fish…”

“I said considering you idiot.” The water went still for a moment, apparently taken aback, before resuming its motion and speech.

“I see…What about the two inside?”

“I would like to meet them.” Anya leaned forward looking at Corey and Robin.

“Good, you could use a few more friends.”

“That’s not why!”

“Admit it, you’re lonely.” Anya turned red in the face and opened her mouth to say something. She shut it and then opened and shut it again, unable to find anything to say. “Anyhow, isn’t one of them that vigilante that’s we’ve been hearing about?”

“So?”

“The one that beats up murderers, thugs, gangsters, and most relevantly, thieves. Need I remind you how you put food on the table?”

Anya stared at the melee going on inside with consternation. “Still, I’ve never met another magical girl before. I think it would be interesting.” She stood up on top of the wall and outstretched both her arms to her side.

“So we are getting involved?” Anya didn’t respond. Beneath her feet a pool of water welled up. It was foaming like a wave that had just broken. After a second, the water in the puddle shot up in a jet of water, consuming Anya. When it settled, Anya’s hair had turned a royal blue and was adored with various sea shells. She was wearing a blue dress that was embroidered to look like the ocean and around her neck she wore a necklace of pearls and sapphires. On her back, she had a slightly shorter than normal claymore. The cap of the canteen, which was now lying on the ground, popped off and serpent made of water with a dragon’s head slithered out and reared up in front of Anya facing the warehouse. Undo turned towards her. “So do we even have a plan?” From inside the warehouse, the sound of a crossbow bolt hitting the floor was heard.

“Well, I was thinking I could simply go in there with Wave Breaker.” Anya said fingering the hilt of her sword.

Undo looked back at the warehouse and thought for a moment. He had the expression on his liquid face that he always had when he was planning He looked back at Anya. “Are you going to take them on with that pint-sized sword?” Anya flinched and blushed.

“What did you say?” She said grinding her teeth and clenching her fists. The water behind her began to churn.

“Oh you know,” Undo smiled wryly and cocked his head at her, “A pint-sized sword for a pint-sized warrior.”

Anya clenched her fists harder and started grinding her teeth. Her face went through several different shades of red before she exploded with rage. “DIDN’T I TELL YOU”…” The water in the canal behind her started to churn and slosh so violently that it almost seemed to be boiling. “NEVER TO SAY ANYTHING ABOUT MY HEIGHT!!!!!” As Anya exploded, the water behind her exploded as well. Behind her a massive wave rose up and crashed down over the wall. Undo cowered back towards the warehouse as a huge dozen foot wave rolled towards him. He was smashed up against the wall as the wave met the warehouse. It continued, smashing through the windows carrying pieces of broken glass and splintered wood into the warehouse bowling over everyone inside. Anya, still seething with rage, threw one had out in front of her. The temperature around her plummeted causing the ice to start to freeze over. By the time everyone inside the warehouse gotten to their feet and found themselves in waist deep water, a wave of ice ripped across the water. In less than a minute, the surface of the water was covered in a one inch thick sheet of ice. “That will show that stupid snake.” The center of the sheet of ice went from the wall of the canal to the inside of the warehouse began to crack. Undo burst out unscathed and looked into the warehouse where all its occupants were struggling to move. Some of them had their arms frozen. The two magical girls inside however, were only frozen at the waist. All the crossbows had either been washed away or frozen. Undo looked at Anya again.

“Well who says a little redirected rage can’t make for a good entrance?” He said smiling. Anya merely crossed her arms and quietly pouted something about not being “pint-sized.”

Forests of Eluran

Eirika trailed her hands across one of the raised standing stones in the circle, feeling the roughness of the rock and the soft moss that covered parts of it. These circles of standing stones were not exactly rare here in Eluran, but this one was strange. The Altar Stone of the arrangement was a smooth piece of obsidian and the megaliths themselves were, rather than the usual bluestone or granite, all made of white marble excepting the one her hand rested upon. This stone was a massive slab of sandstone, seemingly untouched by the ravages of time, and upon it rested many spiraling rings of runic text.

Eirika was here exploring, one of her favorite pastimes when she could find herself some free time and her... friend, Lupi, wasn't around. She was currently dressed in but a short sleeved grey tunic and a simple green skirt, her Mark displayed on the inner flesh of her elbow. Even aside from the oddity this set of megaliths, Eirika felt oddly curious, ever since she had set out this morning, she had noticed and followed a small nagging impulse that had led her here. As she mused about the nature of the stones, her idle hand continued its slow path around the diameter of the carved sandstone, coming across a mark she had not noticed yet on the stone, and carved into it much more deeply. As her fingers brushed the symbol, the Sidhe disappeared, leaving the circle of stones to their lonely vigil once more.

The Dream

Eirika's hand jerked away from the stone as if burned when she noticed the change in her surroundings, and transforming into her Magical Girl attire reflexively, she warily took in her new location, idle sparks of alien, Fell, energy jumping across her clothing when lines of the arcane text crawling across it came near to each other.

Crestpeak Hold

"Taki is always up!" The harpy chimed, as she swooped past Chiara, happily fluttering along the chilly gusts coursing down the mountainside. Being well-used to arctic environs, she found very little bothersome about anything here.

Ever since Taki had discovered Chiara and Frigg, she'd been a stubborn follower of the duo, as enthusiastic about their mere presence as she was oblivious to any discomfort they might feel, due to the cold or her manner. Catching a particularly stiff wind under her wings, she flew backwards a bit before coming up behind Chiara.

Without warning, she carefully set her talons on the human's shoulder, turning her into an improvised perch. Chiara would find though, that Taki was a surprisingly light passenger. Leaning over to look Chiara in the eye, even as her wings continued to flap to keep her weight off of her friend, Taki spoke up "Has Chiara been here before? Is very tall place, perhaps not like the cold?"

Kate smiled at the sight of the cute kitty! Oh she just wanted to pick up and hug the thing. Scales sent to Kate "Just a warning that it isn't a good idea to pet a stray cat."

The half-elf shrugged off the dragon's words. "Oh, you're just jealous it's cuter than you."

After the rift opened, it became obvious to Kate she wasn't in the city anymore. Scales pretty much figured this out soon after the teleportation but didn't want to say anything at the risk of embarrassing Kate.

The golden road before the girl could only be one thing to her, the road to adventure. But she can't go down it with her current dress...

-insert Transformation Sequence here-

It felt good for Kate to be back in Pink and White again and now for the road. Though the half elf wasn't going to walk down it there was a much faster way. Kate started flying, following the road while Scales went from the girl's shoulder to her back.

Outskirts of the Parn Empire.

Two months ago, I reached home after my travels. My parents hardly recognized me when I walked in through our door. Where I'd expected revulsion at what I've become, I was greeted with tears of joy and cries of welcome, and as I stood there, dumbfounded, Papa said it was the first time since I was just a little girl that he's seen my eyes. Thinking back to those days, I realize he's right; I scarcely even looked at them growing up. I never knew Papa had a scar on his forehead, or just how deep Mama's worry lines are.

As I watch the fields of my childhood pass by, I feel like I'm leaving behind yet another part of myself. And I am, in a way. My blood is in this soil, as much as this soil is in my blood. If there was anywhere in this world where I still belonged, it would have been here. It's only now that there's no turning back that I realize how much I'll miss this place. How much I'll miss them.

With a small rustling, followed by a clap, the dark figure closed the book in her lap, placing it, the pen, and the inkwell in her pack. A quick check of her food told her that she had enough rations to reach Rallis. And then, it was South to Hercine and Whitebolt Academy with her. Despite the dire nature of her exodus, the thought of a library made her feel giddy. The scholars would probably bend over backward for information on Fell Magic (and even if they were uninterested, she had other talents).

As she stepped out from the shade of the tree she'd set herself under, she frowned uncomfortably. The sun was brighter than she fancied. Every moment she tarried increased her likelihood of being found, and she knew it, but that accursed sunlight... she sighed in disappointment as she decided to head indoors.

As she neared the Cafe, however, she perked back up. Maybe she could afford a quick splurge before the next trek of her journey!

Lisha shook QTpie's suggestion off her head and kept walking, keeping her shadow umbrella up and digging into her pocket to pick out her papers. While she was doing that, though, she took one side glance and saw a bespectacled girl coming into the cafe. Though she does not know why, Lisha took interest.

"Ey, you seeing her?" her fairy friend said, leaning into Lisha's ear.

"Yeah," Lisha whispered as she keeps her eye on the girl. "Something strange about her."

"I feel what ya mean, I don't like this. Shit, you think she's-"

"Eh, worth a shot," Lisha said as she shrugged, though a small one so that QTpie won't get tossed around like last time and turned around to get to the girl.

"What if she's just normal," the fairy asked with no intent on jokes.

"She won't."

Lisha caught the girl by her shoulder and asked, as formal of a tone a ghetto girl could get, "Excuse me, Miss. Sorry for being rude but we like to know your name."

She refrained from adding "For the will of the Emperor," to that sentence, for she thinks the girl might not think too highly of the Emperor, wouldn't be on the run otherwise. Or was there another reason?

Corey stared flatly at the wave crashing towards them. "Oh, that's just grea—"

The wave then bowled the currently non-transformed girl over, blasting the ribbon out of her hair and soaking every inch of her body. She managed to stagger to her feet, just in time to see the wave of ice cover it again, freezing her in place. "Man, come on!" She smacked away at the ice, then held out her arms at the Magical Girl. "The hell was that?! Didn't you see I had this under control, you nimrod?" She grunted and turned around. "Hang on, lemme finish the job here." Corey climbed out of the hole she'd made for herself and began stalking over the ice; she grabbed a metal support pole rooted in the ice, and began clanging any still-conscious thugs over the head to knock them out.

"You two, fish around under the water. In case you didn't notice, there were several smugglers knocked cold on the ground, now under the ice, drowning." She clocked another frozen thug over the head for emphasis and scowled at the two Magical Girls. "Find them before they die, okay? Is that too complex for you?"

The magical walls of the building sparkled a little as Eirika wielded her fell magic... and she felt a little chirp behind her, as the same feline creature that had found the other girls stared at her with big open eyes... looking at the sparks of Fell energy with concern and wariness... but it still then meowed at her, granting access as the portal opened and the golden road appeared for Eirika to follow.

Rising up in the air and following the road, Kate would see the beautiful, peaceful forest of the Dream... and then, in the distance a big, circular building of stone, rising in the distance... where the path led.

If I'm sure of something it's that I'm not sure of anything.

Desdemona Spiros, fortuneteller extraordinaire, hummed a song to herself while she waited for her next customer to appear. Sitting in her tent all day and waiting was sometimes a little boring, but if she wasn't there during the day, how was she to make a living? Such was life. Still, she did try to find things to pass the time, and in this case, she was doing her best to think up lyrics to a new song. Well, it wouldn't be a new song so much as a re-purposed one; her father had sung it to her every night as a child, and she was now attempting to re-fashion that catchy melody into an anthem for rebellion against the state. It had turned out to be a harder task than she'd first expected.

The temporary place of business she'd set up was little more than a vibrant, multicolored tent in a small lot she was borrowing near the town square. Although some people in her line of trade would have filled the place with incense, Des found that stuff to be more trouble than it was worth. It was a lot easier to pick up on clues about her clients when fragrant smoke wasn't clogging up her sensitive nose. In the center of the circular tent sat a large, colorful box-turned-impromptu-table with some purple fabric draped over it and the obligatory crystal ball atop that. On either side of it were two ordinary wooden crates adorned with comfortable, silky purple cushions, Des herself sitting in the one opposite the tent flap.

Not really feeling as if she was getting anywhere with her musical attempts, the incognito Magical Girl gazed into her fortunetelling "tool" and started people-watching in the square outside. It wasn't as if she actually needed to look into anything special to use her gifts of divination, but it would probably leave a pretty bad impression if someone were to walk in and see her staring into space. Thankfully, this town right on the border between Hercine, Magstara, and Parn had been a bustling trade hub ever since ancient times, so she was bound to see someone wanting their fortunes read sooner or later, and if not, then at least there would be plenty of entertainment in the meantime!

Sara restrained the urge to jerk away on reflex. Pivoting to face her interceptor, she raised her arm, using the movement of her turn to coolly brush the hand off of her in a single, fluid motion.

"Beg your pardon?" she asked, as if not having heard the previous questions.

The girl before her was pale, and slightly taller than Sara was. Her apparent youth, unkempt hair, and the fairy sitting on her shoulder told Sara all she needed to know.

Behind her look of polite bewilderment, Sara felt an edge of irritable anxiety.

Keep it cool.

It's kind of funny. Sufficiently advanced stupidity is like sufficiently advanced science; eventually, you find something you can't solve.

Bitch did you not hear me the first time? That's what Lisha, and probably QTpie, wanted to say but restrained themselves further. Lisha tried again, this time with a different approach, "My name's Lisha-" she pointed at the fairy sitting cross-legged "-and this is Private QTpie."

"Don't ask about my uniform, I was never in the police," QTpie pre-emptively answered a question. She should know, almost everybody they met always ask that question.

"Yeah, I summoned her and even I don't know how she got the uniform," Lisha sarcastically quipped. "But anyway, we just noticed something...peculiar about you, we'd just like to know you better. So what is your name again?"

The fuck am I saying, Lisha thought, it's almost like she's trying to get a date with this chick. Granted, she looked cute but Lisha don't want to bother with relationship,at least not now.

Desdemona felt them coming.

She always did. Among Magical Girls she was one, if not the most troublesome to take by surprise. In their last attempts, she had felt them coming from farther away in both time and distance... they had apparently learned some ways of masking their presence.

Not good enough though. She still could feel them coming minutes away. She could feel, if she concentrated, on their footsteps far away in the distance all around. If she concentrated on her hearing she could hear one of them repeating mantras and magical spells under their breath. She could catch their scent in the air... one in particular she knew, the others she could only catch by the scent of the High Towers of Magstara.

Sure enough there she was... the Captain of the Fifth Platoon of the Arcane Knights of Magstara. She was wearing a light layer of illusion magic to hide her appearance. By now Desdemona could really tell that this woman wasn't good at disguising herself. Today her disguise was one meant for the masses... not for trying to disguise herself from Desdemona. But no matter how elaborate the costume, the Captain was way too conspicuous. Her bearing was too dignified, her discipline too strong for her to not draw the eye, even if she looked like a boil covered hag or a little beggar boy.

Her men were hidden among crowds... but far away. Keeping an eye on their Captain with diligence, baiting their breath. After all, the Captain was but a mortal going to meet up with one blessed by Magic.

The Captain stood finally all the way on the other side of the road where Desdemona had her tent... her eyes looking at the Magical Girl from afar before she spoke. Only a whisper... but Des could make out every word "May we talk, Lady Desdemona?"

If I'm sure of something it's that I'm not sure of anything.
