[up] That's the thing, though: when it comes to a Tragic Hero, it is a thing that people would hate the bleep out of themselves for. But one can't get away from oneself. As an audience to this story, too...they can't get away from this point of view (unless they quit being an audience to the story entirely.)

The point still stands: while Good versus Evil is boring and there's too much of it, and even the subversion attempts take the wrong shape, there are other stories where it's not that simple.

I keep trying to pot hole Redemption Arc, but it looks as if The Atoner is what I was supposed to be using all this time.

There's a point to The Atoner, too. You don't have to find it, or even seek it. If you're dissatisfied either with or without Good Versus Evil narratives, then go ahead and be dissatisfied.
