It usually goes like this. When a bunch of people are nervously discussing a problem they have no idea what to do with, some retired badass-type guy who was sitting there alone somewhere in the dark all along makes some noise/says some short phrase that makes everyone shut up and start listening to him giving them a crucial information/big clue/useful advice. I remember seeing this in Tropic Thunder and South Park recently. Yeah, I checked Tropic Thunder wiki page and didn't find anything about that.
