In the main bugs thread for the updated redesign, many of the issues being reported by users are caused by having javascript blocked or disabled. Administration asked if we could set up a list highlighting these issues. (Post linked above.)

I've listed the ones I've experienced below. If you are having issues that you know (or are pretty sure) are caused specifically by having javascript disabled or blocked, please post them in this thread.

Note that I experienced all of these issues using Internet Explorer on Windows 7 with javascript disabled (it's a work computer, don't blame me for my terrible choice of browser). My home computer is Windows 8 and I use Pale Moon, a build of Firefox, and I have not experienced any of these issues on my home computer.

  • Many icons don't appear, such as the plus-sign icons on the dropdown menus in the sidebar. However, the menu labels display correctly and the dropdown menus function properly, so this is a minor issue. The dice on the "Random" button in the header also does not display. Again, minor problem, as the rest of the button shows and the button itself works.
  • Probably part of the same issue as above, but more serious: The pen-and-paper icon for the menu that contains "edit", "source", "history", etc. does not display. The dropdown menu works, but it is invisible, so you just have to know where it is in order to use it.
  • Again, probably part of the same issue: "New post" checkmarks to not display in YKTTW, making it impossible to tell which ones have new comments since the last time you viewed them without looking at timestamps or actually opening them.
  • Google Search does not work at all in normal browsing mode; the entire frame goes blank. In Compatibility Mode, something like 5% or 10% of the time, it will load results properly; the rest of the time it still just blanks the page. There doesn't seem to be any pattern to when it works and does not work, other than only ever working occasionally in Compatibility Mode.
  • Clicking the "Edit" button on any article redirects directly to the Home Page with no URLs in between. However, adding ?action=edit to a page URL works just fine for editing.

That's all I can think of. If you have experienced other bugs that you know are due to javascript being disabled (the best way to check is to switch to a computer that has it enabled and try to recreate the bug, if possible), then please post them here.

New issue as of 30 JAN: Up until now the edit/source/history dropdown has been invisible to me but otherwise functional if I click on the spot where it's at. But today it just doesn't work. So I can edit and view the source, but as far as I know, I can't view page histories now, since there's no easy ?action=whatever string I can just append to the page URL. Presumably yet another javascript issue.

EDIT: Might have been a false alarm. The menu is working properly for me now. Perhaps the page I was trying to use simply failed to load properly.
