If the confirmation email was blocked due to our security measures, then the user may attempt to register the handle again. It only sits in limbo if it's sent but not replied to, or if for some reason the system fails to deliver it. We're investigating a number of such issues.

A newbie signed up for tvtropes and gave a valid e-mail address on a very minor e-mail service. The confirmation e-mail never arrived, although my sign-up, at the same time, arrived at my well known e-mail host almost immediately. Said newbie also has an e-mail account on the better-known e-mail service that we know worked for me. Is there a way to change the enrollment information to use the better e-mail address since the original request will apparently never be confirmed?
