Was anyone tempted to go along with Burke's plan? Seems like that would be the Obviously Evil path. I used the Black Widow perk to play on his latent empathy and make him go away peacefully.

I weighed the pros and cons of nuking the town, the cons out weighed the pros.

The man's voice is like sex but for ears. So naturally I was tempted. But then he mentioned mass murder and I thought "No amount of auditory lovemaking is worth that."

Really though the option to remove a whole town was a cool one. But unless you are doing an evil playthrough then it's not worth it.

And to be Evil means to go out of your way to make beneficial decisions. There's hardly a reward for being a bastard other than having an excuse to do whatever you want.

What's with all this misinformation?

I blew up Megaton because I needed the money. Burke was pretty nice and forthright and I appreciate that but he sealed the deal with the 1000 caps. With those caps I got Clover, who helped me a lot for the rest of the game.

So the "evil' path was highly beneficial.

Also I got to move into the absolutely lovely Tenpenny Tower which is full of what remains of society. My Wanderer was glad to find some manner of civilization in this, well, wasteland.

P.S.

Three Dog is the worst and he can say whatever he wants about me becasuse he's a self-righteous egomaniacal hypocrite. His opinion is more worthless than old world money.

I somewhat agree with Nik, siding with Burke is supposed to be a case of Evil Pays Better.

You know, it's funny — I got this game out of nostalgia and because I figured it's something to do while I wait for the inevitable sale on FO4, but I have to say that its mechanics are pretty damn terrible. It's not the guilty retro pleasure that 2 was. I'm trying to get into it, but... man. Doesn't help that it crashes frequently, although I'm not sure if that's because I am using mods or because it has Win10 compatibility issues.

I'm not getting crashes this time, and I haven't even been using any mods at all. Not even unofficial patches.

My current character's a gunfighter named Alexander. He's pretty much a goodie two shoes Who goes to town on whatever bad person needs a bullet to the face. He's bouncing around between the main quest and other side quests, as he feels the need. I've already got the mission to grab a new dish from the museum of technology and repair the one on top of the Washington Monument.

And Moira reminds me of that sappy immature news anchor Robin hates on How I Met Your Mother. You know, the one that's like a little girl.

I somewhat agree with Nik, siding with Burke is supposed to be a case of Evil Pays Better.

See, the awkward thing is in actual game terms you generally just lock yourself off a bunch of content and experience. Now, soon as some shady guy in an RPG tells me to "I will give you literally nothing, but you'll probably get a bunch of XP out of it", I'll go off and kill my mother.

EDIT: Provided I've done all the mum sidequests, obviously.

So the "evil' path was highly beneficial.

Honestly, Nikkolas, in blowing up that town you:

1) Permanently killed off the other Evil follower.

2) Lowered your karma enough to immediately lose access to almost all other followers (e.g. Fawkes). Some of these, you didn't have to pay for.

3) Permanently lowered your stats: there's a bobblehead that becomes inaccessible once the town's been nuked.

4) Locked off sidequests.

5) Lost access to a different home that was more convenient to access.

[up] 1. Just recruit him beforehand.

2. See #1.

3. Just get it before you blow the place up.

4. You can still do the wasteland survival guide quest.

5. Okay, i'll give you that. The Tenpenny Tower room kind of sucks.

[up]The Wasteland Survival Guide is only one quest, you still lose others. And if you need 1,000 caps, then you probably won't be able to recruit Jericho, if you've done all the quests then that money by now is probably a lot less appealing (keep in mind disarming the bomb will still net you 500 caps if you persuade), so you lose the motivation to remove one of the hub worlds.

Yes, if you're metagaming, you can dry up the whole place first, but generally speaking it's not that viable. Especially if you, say, don't have the forehand knowledge of where the bobblehead is.

I have my doubts that Nikkolas did any of that stuff on his playthrough.

I could not afford Jericho. sadly. I had money troubles for damn near the entire game.

Also you meet Fawkes WAY WAY WAY the fuck later. I wanted a follower now.

As for the other stuff, I didn't do any of it really because it was boring and the city sucked. Rivet City was everything Megaton should have been. Tons of interesting NPC's and sidequests, lots of options on how to deal with all this, etc..

Rivet City is like the best part of the game.

[up][up]Fawkes was just one example. There are various other ones you can get at various other points. I can't tell if you could've got them sooner or later than Clover since I don't know your exact path through the game, of course.

Also it's been a while and I can't remember where each companion actually is anymore.

My point is, generally speaking, even if in in-universe it can work selfishly, for most players the option will just ultimately screw them over, which makes it come across as really pointlessly evil.

It really is pointlessly evil. I skipped that in favor of disarming the nuke. Then I went and did a couple missions for Moira. I've also saved Arefu and set up the protection deal so the Family and them can get along. I think I've got a few good lines on caps now, so that's something fun.

If only there were good AO options for this game. Putting me in reach of two prostitutes with no real reason to use them? Bethesda are such trolls. tongue

[up][up] Here is my playthrough of FO3, if you care.

I looked it up as you asked about what path I took. Far as I can tell from what I posted and from what I actually remember, I could have had Butch as a companion but I killed him.

I got Clover straight after Megaton and some looting it seems.

If you're stuck on doing the "Trouble on the Homefront" quest and you aren't as good at the game as I am ([lol][lol]), you could try having a look at this:

http://fallout.gamepedia.com/Trouble_on_the_Homefront

There's more routes to completion than I thought there was when I was playing the game.

Yeah, she is. But she's got a point - the Lone Wanderer is a trouble maker, and by that point in the game steeped top full of blood and gore from various nasties, ranging from Super Mutant Behemoths to Deathclaws and every variety of Raider under the sun. He or she isn't going to fit into life in the Vault again no matter how hard they try.

I didn't mind, I was fine with being banned from the Vault after I got her to promise that she would keep the rest of the inhabitants locked up safe and sound inside.

I've SEEN things, man. I'm not letting my sort of girlfriend go out there and have to face the kind of shit I've been dealing with. I'll miss her but it's better she's away from me and alive than with me and possibly dead.

If Moira can survive a nuke to the face and come out a cheerful ghoul, I think Amata could survive the wastes too.

There's always mods. Amata as a companion and essential tags on the companions would do it.
