Kirito in SOA II

So...anyone else getting annoyed at how worthless Kirito seems to have become? He used to be amazingly good at games which was demonstrated through out the whole first season. Yet now he seems so weak compared to before. Even in real life he got wrecked. Any clue why they are doing it? This is exactly the type of stuff in animes i'm getting tired of. Weak main characters. Should I keep watching even? Does he improve again?
