If armor werent a gameplay mechanic one could argue that laser weaponry just made body armor obsolete, just like the advent of cannons did to forts.

Why would it? Lasers still need to melt through armor (A process that can take more time than a bullet needs to penetrate armor, generally speaking). If anything lasers would make armor better since armor would have an easier reflecting the laser away.

Well, there are few designs here that don't look silly in a more serious setting.
The most silly standard costume would be symmetra. I just never thought it fit her.
Uni catTechnological Genius: After all years, the device is completed. When this flail hits someone, it will burst out healing energy, repairing and healing everyone nearby as if by magic.
Some Guy: What if you just had it do that without hitting people?

Well then you just have Lucio's speaker and that's already patented.
Widowmaker. There's no amount of double sided tape that makes this hold in place while she's somersaulting and grappling gun'ing around.

I was a fool to doubt the lore. :P

Lore is in need of a buff to stay competitive.
Currently it has 10% pickrate in the OW fandom.
Uni catThe "boob armour" debate is one of the things that honestly bothers me, but it has nothing to do with sexuality, it's just jarring to see a design flaw in the armour that is literally suicidal. That being said this is OW, and if Junkrat can use explosives to get around, this is a minor irritation at best.
In my case it boils down to other media doing it wrong but passing it off as "realistic" when it was really just "lol boobs", where as rocket jumping and the like was literally just played off as just being fun, not realistic and that I'm fine with.
As a side note, am I the only one that thinks the legendary set of plate doesn't quite look right on her, like the sizing is off? As it stands I'm sticking to carbon fibre until more skins come out.
What, the rest of you don't shoot rockets at your feet to blast yourselves around? My horribly destroyed legs salute you, but I don't know how you're getting anywhere on time.
Take the bus, obviously. Grabbing onto the front while it's in motion and jumping off at top speed is much easier on the body than rocket jumping is, you barbarian.

Spoken like someone who's never seen London traffic. Might as well jog. No, no, gonna have to stick with the rocket jumping.

Fair enough.
what, you guys don't carry a rocket-powered suit or armor to dash at the speed of sound on straight lines ?
"when you stare too long into the abyss, Xehanort takes advantage of the distraction to break into your house and steal all your shit."Is anyone in Overwatch moving at sound speed? Maybe Genji's dash?
I'm still disappointed that I've never seen a game where there's a piece of armor with boob plate but when you equip it on a male, it's still there.

This song needs more love.I wonder if in the world of Overwatch do Ridiculously Human Robots exist. Maybe to contrast the usual tin cans we are used to and see if they receive the same poor treatment as regular omnics.
Uni catAren't Omnics Ridiculously Human Robots to begin with?
No. The key qualifier for a Ridiculously Human Robot is that it should be possible for it to pass as actually being human.
None of the Omnics we've seen come even close to that.
Not sure how it is nowadays since it's been so long since I played it, but Runescape did that with certain items. The standard male/female plate armor chestpieces had male and female variants that were actually separate items, and both variants could be used by both male and female characters.
Runescape never really did the whole "the same piece of armor looks different on a male character or a female character" thing. Or at least it didn't years ago when I was still playing it.
The qualifier for Ridiculously Human Robots isn't necessarily physically passing as human, but rather behaviorally.
To quote part of the trope page that might be relevant
Yeah, what i meant is a robot that looks more human than the average omnic.
Speaking of omnics, i have a sneaking suspicion that the big armor thingy we saw in Moira's origin story might be for Maximillian. It would be very out of left field but hey, we don't have a little person controlling a big suit of armor yet! (No, D.Va doesn't count)
Uni catHey, Brig likes semlor like Big Mom from One Piece.
Ya know after noticing all the legacy heroes I think it be cool if we get a character who averts that.
Like their parent or relative was Overwatch like Pharah & Brigitte but instead of going on the side of justice they become evil either because its more fun or cause evil is the more lucrative business.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."
Sex isn't a sin, but I do believe there are problems if you instinctively sexualise characters both male and female without reason. Not necessarily morally, but artistically and narratively. And of course, how you use that sexualisation can have wider implications. How much any of that applies here, I honestly haven't really put that much thought yet. I thought the boob plate looked a bit dumb and went with the Ironclad skin as a result, but that was just a quick, personal aesthetic choice.
To be fair to all, practicality probably demands that you should, ideally, not go into modern-era or later battle dressed as a knight at all. Or dressed as a cowboy. Or as a really fat guy. Weird setting.
