Waiting on more info than lines of text from MMO Champ. That mystery two-hour block on the Blizzcon schedule is likely more info and media.

  • Team based action shooter. Approachable game for everyone.
  • Overwatch is set in the future, game coming sooner than you think
  • New Blizzard world after 17 years

EDIT:

UPDATE:

  • Story
    • The game is set on Earth, 60 years in the future
    • Robots became very common in the future and they went crazy, attacking cities all over the world. The war that resulted against the robots was the Omnic (?) Crisis.
    • The strike team that took on the robots was Overwatch.
    • For the next 30 years after the war, Overwatch was a worldwide agency that displayed how great people could be when they came together, representing heroism and sacrifice.
    • In the last few years, Overwatch started to fall apart.

  • Gameplay
    • Chris Metzen is only doing one voice in this game.
    • Blizzard has been making competitive Pv P games for a long time and this will be yet another.
    • Overwatch will have some dark gritty areas, but it will mostly be a world you will want to come back to.
    • The game is all about heroes.
    • The game will be accessible with non-twitch options.
    • You can do things other than put a crosshair over targets, as that is what drives people away from other shooters.
    • The game is less-lethal. You will die, but you should die less frequently than in current modern military shooters. With more time alive, you are able to do more interesting things and interact with your team more.
    • The teams are going to be 6v6, which is just big enough to make it fun.
    • There are Payload and Capture Point maps, no deathmatch mode.
    • The game is focused on Heroes, not classes. Each hero has a unique story.
    • There are 12 playable characters at Blizzcon, with many more to come.
    • Tracer has a ~10 meter teleport / blink that uses energy. Enough energy to do 3 blinks in a row.
    • Tracer has Recall, which puts her back where she was 3 seconds ago. This also includes health, ammo, and energy.
    • Lots of the story is going to take place outside of the game, unlike previous Blizzard games.

  • Hero Roles
    • Offense - Scout, harass, press the objective, high damage. (Pharah, Reaper, Tracer, Hanzo)
    • Defense - Guard locations, create choke points, establish a front. (Widowmaker, Bastion, Torbjorn)
    • Tank - Protectors, high survivability, disruption, lead the charge, have armor to reduce damage. (Reinhardt, Winston)
    • Support - Heal, buff, utility. (Zenyatta, Mercy, Symmetra)

  • Maps and Game Modes
    • Exotic worldwide locations
    • Simple objectives
    • Encourage hero mobility
    • Team focus encounters
    • Temple of Anubis - At the base of a technological pyramid.
    • Hanamura - Temple grounds, homeland of Hanzo.
    • King's Row - 30 years ago there was a population of robots that lived below the streets. People were going to send an EMP underground to destroy them.

Seems like Frozen + Team Fortress 2 + Wildstar.

I would have at least given it more time for info to appear before making a thread for it...

Took them long enough to stop playing it safe and try something new.

The world is inherently chaotic no amount of religion, conspiracy or wishful thinking will change that, accept it, and move on.

I have to say, this is reminding me a bit of the League Of Legends-style cast set in Team Fortress 2. Like two of the characters in the trailer appear to be an engineer/support archetype but it looks like they look and play completely different.

Actually, the page says Tracer (the speedster) is an offensive type. But yeah...this has me intrigued.

This looks pretty cool. As a TF 2 fan, it definitely has me intrigued. Hopefully the graphical requirements aren't crazy stringent.

Sounds pretty darn cool.

Cinematic trailer (further) had me wonder "Why doesn't Blizzard graphix people just make movies".

Considering how much is slathered on the official website, perhaps the release date is SoonTM only be a year or two away.

Signed up for the beta. Since they've got the closed beta set for early 2015, if everything goes alright we might have an open beta next year and perhaps full release by 2016.

Posting on the forums for the first time in a while just because I really need to make sure this is said: One of the characters is, essentially, a giant intelligent gorilla from the freaking moon.

One look at Winston, and I was reminded of Cheston, another gorilla from another futuristic game involving firearms.

I wonder how many other really intelligent gorillas media's got, I'm reminded of one in Justice League too.

Looking at the character pages, some things just seem odd. I mean, what the heck is the point of the monk robot? Everyone else does flashy stuff but he just shoot balls that sometimes do more damage? And passive healing. Odd gameplay design. Also, the girl who teleports and rewinds time and other cool stuff gets an ult that's... essentially just a grenade? Are grenades so powerful in this model that they needed to be ults?

Well, either way I'm intrigued despite lacking any interest in the genre.

I am interested in your Team Fortress 2 2 video game. Was there any news on whether the multiplayer is drop-in/drop-out, or how that was going to work?

I'm drawing parallels with Unreal Tournament, combined with the character abilities of a MOBA.

That's to say, I love how varied all of the characters look. No two of them look the same; they seem to fulfill their respective sort of "classes" but they all look really different. But are they all a part of Overwatch? The screen in the actual trailer made it look like a lot of the guys on the "bad team" were also a part of it.

That's to say, the trailer really makes me think this could be a pretty good-looking Disney/Pixar movie XD

[up][up][up]I'm pretty sure every character's appendage would have a hat if that were the case.

But not much has been announced so that could still be a possibility.

First look. Kaplan suggests they might try telling more of story using cinematics like the trailer, Meet the Overwatch Team still unconfirmed. Sounds like the game's ability resource is of the mana pool style but pretty quickly recharging.

Still no idea on pricing though.

[up][up] the game's Battle.Net site has some character bios. Most of the roster either was or wanted to be part of Overwatch with the exceptions of Reaper, Widowmaker, and the two omnic characters.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing when I saw his glasses in the cinematic. All the characters look awesome, I'm most interested in Tracer and Mercy at the moment.

Also, Overwatch heroes will be crossing over into Heroes of the Storm in due time.
