Planet Krypton is getting a TV show.

I don't know about having this and a Supergirl show at the same time.

So lemme get this straight.

First they had Smallville, exploring Clark Kent before Superman. Then they did the same to Batman with Gotham, but it went even further back. Now they're basically Gotham-ing Superman, when Gotham was basically Smallville-ing Batman?

Weird.

The next series will explore Bruce's whirlwind life of excitement between he ages of 1 and 8.

I think it could be good. Most are thinking why bother we know the outcome.

But they have an opportunity to explore any part of Krypton's history and culture.

I'm okay with them doing Krypton and Supergirl at the same time. We don't know what network it will be on maybe DC will want both shows to take place in the same continuity.

You know, I made this exact joke a few days ago. Now they're going make an actual Krypton show. I need to keep my mouth shut.

How many exciting and interesting things/seasons can come out of a planet that's doomed to explode? I suppose you can follow the creation of Brainiac but...

Walking with Krypton. See the majestic herds of CGI alien beasts amidst otherwise identical to human Kyrptonians, with no superpowers. Including a bunch of inexplicable jokes about the planet exploding.

What bothers me about this is that I have the feeling that this is mostly about sending something into the run against Marvel. It's as if someone though "Damn, Marvel shows us up at the box office, but hey, out TV shows are really successful, so let's set a sign there".

That's my thinking too. DC is seeing what Marvel's done and desperately wants to be a part of it so they're making a ton of shows to compete. So far they've all be fairly good but this just seems like a stupid idea. Krypton doesn't have nearly enough influence on Superman's life to sustain a show. It's back story material and nothing more in my opinion.

Why does it have to tie into Superman's life to be interesting?

I think it could be interesting just to find out the history of Krypton but I like watching shows about history.

It could also be in the same continuity of the Supergirl series if DC and Warner Bros. wants to because Kara has lived on Krypton most of her life.

Krypton in itself is interesting, but I doubt that they will be able to make Krypton look good on a TV show budget. Plus...isn't that really depressing? You are supposed to get invested in a world you know will be destroyed soon? What is that with DC currently keep telling the audience how horrible life is?

Isn't Gotham loosing viewers rapidly? I didn't keep tabs, but the reviews are very negative.

It depends on when the show takes place. It could be any time throughout the history of Krypton. But it will probably just end up being like decades before the destruction of Krypton.

It's losing viewers, but it's not down to AOS numbers yet.

Besides, I doubt this is even real. WB sees there is no viability in whoring out Superman while they see money-printing in whoring out Batman.

It's the only explanation as to why they want to shoehorn Batman into the sequel to Man of Steel when they know that this Batman will be unrelated to any past incarnation.

Ouch...that's a fast downslide.

I could see them tying in the Green Lanterns, Thanagar, Rann, or the Fourth World too. Maybe cosmic threats like Despero or Starro.

It could work, especially if they start it off with Jor-El discovering that the planet on the verge of destruction. A drama about his desperate, but doomed attempts to save the planet and make the higher powers see reason could be fascinating, especially with characters such as Zod and Brainiac around.

Seriously, this could be an amazing goddamned show. I really hope that they go full-out on this concept.

Clearly the next step is The Adventures of Thomas Wayne, Billionaire Surgeon.

Well, there was that one comic where Thomas was the first Batman for like...a day.

Then a show about how the Waynes came to the New World? A show about Kryp and Tonn?

Or better yet, how about a show where the very first ancestor of the Waynes strikes fear into the hearts of his superstitious, cowardly fellow cavemen? And as a bonus, he could even make fire!
