A show getting more outlandish over time?

Hello, this is my first post because I just thought of something out of the blue and wondering if there's a trope for it.

A TV series starts off in fairly mundane circumstances, think the typical suburban sitcom scenario. As the series goes on this starts to change and improbable stuff starts happening, e.g. a nerd character goes from simply being very smart to building a human-like robot, or a detective's cases go from solving homicides or recovering stolen goods to averting major catastrophes every other episode.

Basically as ratings get bigger so do the situations faced by characters, which tends to harm the series. Of course this doesn't always have to be the case, like a successful cop could occasionally get an especially dangerous assignment, but he probably shouldn't be assigned to protect the President from a terrorist attack or safeguard a nuclear warhead as it moves across Central Asia.

Greetings,

while I don't know about that trope, the Trope Finder might.
