So, this is a thing.

It's... weird looking as hell. The CGI meshes badly, and it's jarring to see some of the obvious japanisms.

Funny to hear the wolf-song in japanese though :p

The designs are old-school but fairly good (though a bit too colorful I think) but the way the CG and animation meshes is just bad.

At first I got a very The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker feel about the animation, but I found it passing soon enough. I don't really mind the Cel Shading.

This is so strange in Japanese. The Wolf Song was the least of the weirdness. The pronunciation of the names isn't that bad, actually. Far better than when most anime tries to use English. Or English speakers tries to use Swedish. Just the occasional ending -u as is typical, but other than that, it's fine.

The harpies are sufficiently creepy.

A real Viking helmet. Without horns.

Well, I can't say they failed showing the happiness of becoming a parent. That's probably the highlight of the first two episodes.

Time flies fast. Certainly does in an anime when you do a Time Skip.

Overall, I find the atmosphere to be rather good, and the characters are goofy enough. I'm not going to comment too much about what's accurate to the source and not, since I'm watching with about no expectations it's going to match up to the original. Okay, some, but not more than I'd expect from any decent anime, and I'm fine with not following the source material anyway, as long as the changes work.

If you love seeing newborns and parents, you're gonna dig these first two eps.

A fan of the odd wildlife myself. The gray dwarves are cute as heck.

In this episode: The joys of exploration. That's really what it was all about.

I was raised pretty much like that. Little concern for safety, and mostly about learning stuff on my own. Go out, have fun, come home when it's dark.

Yeah, the wildlife was good. The dwarves would probably be a little cuter if they were a little more friendly.

We're at episode 12.

Starvation is always an unpleasant experience.
