That's a good point. however, we do know that there are instances of non-benders becoming benders. Harmonic Convergence is one instance. Bumi was not (by appearances) a particularly spiritual man, but he became an airbender. The ability to create a bender is something that would heavily investigated.

[up]I interpreted that as the world rebalancing itself. After all, only airbenders were produced by the reintroduction of spirits, not fire or earth benders.

Besides, Harmonic convergence was a pretty world shattering thing. It's not something you can repeat.

[up]This. A lot more plausible idea is researching alternative forms of bending.

As we've seen during the course of the two shows, bending forms can be altered a lot (Mako's and Bolin's boxing style pro-bending, Yakone's Bloodbending without using any kind of gestures at all).

Same applies to the effects of bending (Earthbending can develop into Metalbending or the more destructive Lavabending, Waterbenders can control plants and so on).

These are the kind of things military would definitely look into, since it's already been demonstrated what kind of an advantage a single bender can get just by taking his/her bending beyond the limits people are familiar with.

I'm also wondering how military organization would change?

For instance, modern militaries have a high-focus on specializations. There are infantry soldiers, snipers, engineers, computer technicians, M Ps, etc... each with their own specific training. Not to mention the officers as well.

[up]You might see more cases of specialist and heavy weapon focused formations rather than rifleman focused formations.
