Well, you could make it slightly more complicated and have the students start out in completely enveloping robes and face masks or veils, so that all that can be seen of them is (maybe) their hands (add gloves if you want) and general shape and movement style. Something about "All starting as unknowns" or "You are only what you know", whatever. As they pass certain milestones in their training, they are allowed to stop wearing one article of clothing, with the mask being he final item they can remove.
I freely admit that I stole this and reversed it from the training of the Siblings of the Shroud in Steve Perry's Matador 'verse. There, the trainees gain one item of the order's distinctive habit as they pass milestones, with the final piece added being the face veil.

School uniform with differences according to year or level isn't enough?
Sounds like you just want to hide the identity to the player, can't you just do that?
They could be wearing robes like Madrugada suggested, but not to hide their identity to each other. They could see each other perfectly well, it's just the player that never get to see them from the right angle with their faces unshadowed.

I am trying to make a game where you can customize your character, but I do not want the character to be customized at the beginning. So in my game's story all of the students of this onmyoji school wear masks until graduation. In my game the character is going to graduate after about 30 minutes of gameplay, so then the player can customize their character and reveal their face, gender, etc after offically becoming an onmyoji.
(Skip here if you DO NOT want to read A BLOCK OF TEXT)So can someone help me find a good reason the school makes students hide their identity before becoming an omyoji(basically spellcaster)? I have only came up with these: the school's masks prevent them from preforming powerful spells or it is just another one of those rules everyone must obey even though they do not know why. I am the white void, I am et cetera, et cetera... THE END HAS COME!
