Starting a thread because I searched and did not find one already. Correct me if my "Search" was amiss.

So, I like reading stuff on Huffpo. I have been reading them ever since I saw someone in an argument link to them a few years ago. They're a liberal-leaning paper and tend to make their politics clear... except when they don't. They've been made fun of by some of the people they cover (Colbert and Stewart) a few times... lately, the headlines of OUTRAGE on their main pages about celebrity nude photo links while they have an entire section dedicated to "Sideboob" in their Entertainment section.

I actually find myself more interested in other sections, like the Science section and the Religion section. Science - because they report interesting little weird things I don't see elsewhere and Religion because they like to feature people nobody else thinks exists, such as Progressive Christians who fight for gay rights and stuff. They are probably the only news source I've personally seen that features articles about Pagan holidays and how they are celebrated by actual Pagans every once in a while.

However, if it wasn't for my gawky nature, I think I would have called quits on reading them long ago. I'm getting pretty close lately. The site doesn't seem to know what actually is news or where to put things lately. An example? They have some Transhumanism advocate over on the Science pages who sometimes actually talks science, but recently posted an article ranting about religion and how he thinks society should eliminate it by treating it like porn. There wasn't a shred of actual scientific argument in the article, it was just his opinion for his utopian future, yet there wasn't any hide nor hair of it on the Religion page. It was on the Science page. Likewise, on the Religion page was a psychological study on altruism that mentioned religion briefly (as in, people of one religion sometimes help people in another, that was IT) and, while it was a nice article, it wasn't in the Science section and I was baffled by that.

Today, there are articles in those sections that are making me say "Well, duh" and "Why do the opinions of fiction writers without expertise on either thing matter?"

General things that should be in "Books" that are in other sections, as well as just about every blogger there only interested in selling their books...

In other words, I read the site, but I almost always feel like I've been licking the bottom of a dumpster, or like it's subtly turning into the Onion. Opinions on it or other similar online news sources?

In which I attempt to be a writer.
