Harry Potter and the Natura-

-shot-

I'm always interested in fics that do Deep-Immersion Gaming, or feature some metaphysical D20 kind of stuff.

[up] It's okay. I was thinking of pimping actual campaign ideas given the nature of the game and this topic.

Title, you say? "They Might Be Psions".

Basically, a group of characters ends up too close to a high-level psion, who ends up exploding right at that moment. If they were there intentionally or not, and if the psion exploded intentionally or not, and if it was their intention to have the psion explode - that's all up to the writer's choise.

As a result, the group of characters are now connected to each other telepathically. The participants can control how much of their mind they share, but the link is always there. At "maximum privacy" others can tell if the person is alive and his/her general state of the mind (calm, worried, exited, etc).

When every member is actively participating in the "hivemind", the group as a whole can act as a separate character (which actually is a separate character, the remains of the exploded psion's personality). This "group" character has it's own Initiative order, can only manifest powers, and manifests them as a lvl 5 Psion. This character's INT, WIS and CHA are equal to the party's average, +1 point per each "+1" bonus to each party member's stats . The amount of Power Points is calculated based on this stats. The Powers Known are determined like this: each party member selects one, then the GM picks three more. The lore behind this is that the exploded psion knew more, but they got lost when he exploded.

When the party members are not actively participating, they still can use these powers, as if they had a +1 psionic class to the ones they already have (pick one from Psion, Wilder and Psi Warrior, cannot change). If the character has no psionic classes, they can use powers as a lvl 1 class of his choise. These bonus levels don't count for anything other than a caster level. The "group character" power points can all be used by any party members, but only after the character's own P Ps are depleted. Same applies for "group character" using the party members' P Ps. For the purposes of the "same source" rule, the P Ps from the "group character" and each individual party member count as the same source. Also, if a party member is using a "group" power to boost self, there is a chance that the power will randomly affect another party member.

From there, the characters have to thwart (or continue) the plans of the exploded psion... Or simply live their lives coping with bits of another's soul sticking to their brain.

The party members are not required to form an actual band.

Rather than smart, I'd prefer to be wise. It would let me be silly more often.

So, I'm pulling up this thread for some shameless self-promotion. I recently completed a fic I've been toying with for several years now, set in the Eberron world. I've always had a certain fondness for this unique setting and have been disappointed that the novel line dried up a while back and Wizards hasn't seemed interested in publishing much for it in 5E, so this was my attempt to scratch that itch. The fic is intended as the first volume of an ongoing series exploring various parts of the world of Eberron, but it's a largely self-contained story as well. The fic is called Game of the Ancients, Volume I and its plot deals with a small team of mercenaries from Sharn who've been hired by a young woman with some significant secrets to go after an artifact from the Age of Demons; along the way they become embroiled in a conflict with the Order of the Emerald Claw, some agents of the Church of the Silver Flame, and the centuries-spanning plots of the Lords of Dust.

Game of the Ancients isn't, somewhat ironically, based on an actual game, though I do have stats for the most important characters to pin down their abilities (especially for the spellcasters). If anyone thinks this all sounds interesting, I'd love to get some feedback before I start on the sequel, which will take the characters to Sarlona. I've posted it in various places; FF.net is here:https://www.fanfiction.net/s/10175484/1/Game-of-the-Ancients-Part-I-Khorvaire , AO 3 is here: http://archiveofourown.org/works/1293652/chapters/2683129 , and my Dreamwidth is here: https://masterghandalf.dreamwidth.org/512.html (this one has character portraits!)

Going to be writing a fanfic based on old-school D&D using an original setting and the old Rules Cyclopedia from the 90's as inspiration.

Not sure if I want an all-original cast, or do an AU with characters from various anime and video games re-envisioned as D&D characters.

Doing a 5e self insert and being a min-maxing shit-head.

You gotta start somewhere.
