Probably because it doesn't have Fox constantly demanding that the supernatural stuff get pushed as far to the side as possible.
Seriously, what is it with Fox and bending premises to the breaking point just to have another murder procedural?
Not Three Laws compliant.Because it's cheap and CGI is expensive.
I hated Season 3. It got really bogged down with the relationship drama and it also hit on one of my bigger problems; Chloe's character has NOWHERE to go. It's been hours and hours of 'Will she ever find out he's really the devil?' but the answer has to be yes because there's no story otherwise but damn it stop dragging it out.
There are a lot of good elements, but I don't think they always... create a cohesive whole? It sometimes feels like there are two separate show identities that are vying for control; one is this Heaven vs. Hell Urban Fantasy and the other is a Police Procedural. They overlap, but the ven diagram is a bit bigger here. S1 was better about overlapping them as the conspiracy was directly tied to Amenideal influencing things and bigger cogs, but it didn't feel like, say, Pierce being Cain added much to the story besides a new antagonist that knows the bigger picture; a villain with a slightly different shade of paint.
I kind of felt like everything Cain-Able related was kind of just wasted. I was shocked that Able STAYED dead after the end gag.
I don't know, I rather liked the Cain arc because I had honestly no idea how it was going to conclude. I also feel more that Chloe's arc was kind of relaxed in Season 3 to allow the other characters more room. That and the introduction of Father Kinley in Season 4 has added yet another "ooh, where's this gonna go?" for me.
I also like that a lot of the crime cases have had parallels to what Lucifer or another character is going through in their personal life, and even when they don't, I've never felt that the elements were disjointed.
Yeah, there's always a 'Lesson of the week' parallel between Lucifer's drama of the day and the case currently being solved ('Tense relationship between son and father' => Lucifer and God) or something. But it just felt more and more like filler in Season 3. Probably because of the TWENTY-SIX episode season compared to 13 for Season 1 and 18 for Season 2 meaning the plot has a pretty brisk pace while S3 has almost 10 more hours of content compared to the previous season. Season 3 just needed a lot more filler to it and I super felt it. Cain proposing to Chloe and her accepting felt both forced and 'Well, we didn't know what else to do with Chloe since she still can't know'.
I also kind of just felt Cain was simply less compelling compared to the Goddess/Charolette. Which I'm not sure if it's the writing for Cain or that I really really don't like his actor. He... feels so wooden. He stays still a lot and just stares in one place, rarely breaking eye line. Meanwhile, compare Chloe or Lucifer, who might have more natural inflections, nod their heads, gesture, or shift weight and pose. The guy is hot af, but... not a good actor.
Tom Weller is a better actor than he gets credit for but the big issues I saw there were the fact:
- Lucifer and Cain have a questionable relationship at best unlike Charlotte (mother) and Eve (girlfriend)
- There's a lot of misdirection and a pointless love triangle so the plot meandered.
- Cain immediately goes back on his goal
I mean, just stick with Cain wants to kill Lucifer or drain his god juice or be crime boss of LA

Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters.I just finished season 4. I think that last episode broke me in the best way.
Bring on Season 5!
"I admit I was very glad this was Gaiman Satan and not the eternal misanthrope from the Lucifer comics.
"
What?, Gaiman Luficer is cold sociopath who never really seen to emote in anyway, he is pridefull but in a "meh, you are beneath me" unlike this hedonist with issues, which is cool mind you but this luficer is barely like the comic ones or even the one in sandman.
I feel the police procedual is kinda a sort of artifact of the series since the supernatural is so much intersting.
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"Gaiman narrated an episode, so whether we see it or not, Gaiman gives his approval to the whole thing.
Dont mind to it but I dont think you can claim is the same from the source material, this is more "Drugs and rock and roll!" while Gaimen luficer was pretty much "Im right and better than you, im ALWAYS better than you".
that dosent said this show isnt valid, is pretty good.
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"Mind you, Gaiman's Lucifer is a note different from Carrey Lucifer, who is different from Show Lucifer.

They couldn't get Morgan Freeman?
You fell victim to one of the classic blunders!Netflix wants to renew the show again[1]
Hmmm.
Not sure if I like that.
I was pretty happy hearing the show would be getting two seasons to wrap up.
So I hope this doesn't hurt the writing in the 5th Season if they don't make a decision right away.

This is gonna be good. So I have spoken, so it shall be.
You fell victim to one of the classic blunders!I find strange that Maze is able to beat Michael in a physical fight.
Random thought I pondered while rewatching the series. Why is Abel in Hell? People are only in Hell because they feel guilty, but if Cain was just as bad, if not worse than his brother, Abel has no reason to feel guilty about trying to kill him. Or was he put there by divine fiat?
You fell victim to one of the classic blunders! The series implies that Abel has a whole lot more to feel bad about than just fighting with his brother, namely being a wanna-be philanderer and all around general asshat.
So, it's coming out today (August 21st), right?
Watching, guess that running gag is dead.
Oh boy, more relationship drama.

‘My ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.’Oh it totally slipped my mind this was coming out.
For once the Netflix promotional emails actually informed me of something.

You'll likely be happy with S4 then, because its generally regarded as the strongest season.
