The first of October - 2025.

Its been about seven months or so since the DRA's first attack, and pretty much everywhere is on high alert. Even my school's got lockdown procedures, and classes in "Monster Survival".

I'm Matthew Streiss, and I guess you could say I'm a teenager with attitude. Which is to say, without the knowledge of all that many people here, I happen to be a Power Ranger.

My Silver Morpher's disguised as my phone - it'd be pretty inconvenient if it rang or if I got a text, but Baker said it simply looked like a cellphone. So, basically, every once in a while we respond to a new Monster attack in the area. Sometimes it'll be attacking the trains, other times it'll be going for the power plant...well, insofar, the local Rangers and I have dealt with around three or four of the creatures.

So I guess I cannot really say I'm too terribly experienced. Still getting used to my Zord and all.

Due to new infrastructure and such, built around the idea of the DRA attacking, the place I've come to call home has become called "Neocora".

I've also heard of some outlying teams, including one that really kinda worries me. But first and foremost, the problem is the DRA.

Just as I'm about to answer a question about 2000 -> 2010 Literature, the Monster Attack Bell starts going off. Dammit, looks like I'll have to cut out while the other students get to the shelter.

Outside, a large creature resembling a humanoid fly with four arms, a device resembling an old fashioned TV Dish sticking out of its chest, and some kind of armor otherwise was chuckling maliciously as it stomped forward, each step putting it closer to the school.

The only thing in its way was a blockade of the local police force, the officers out of their cars, ready to at least try to protect the kids.

The local police shivered, their guns trained on it. The officer in charge, Lieutenant Stone Jr., gulped. What would this one do? The last one shot beams that turned things to stone. He'd swatted plenty of flies, but this was the biggest and meanest looking one...

One inexperienced officer shot at it, the bullet not even slowing it down in the slightest.

The creature once again chuckled, "You must be flyin' high to attack High-Fly, so lemme send you to Cloud 9!"

The fly shot some sort of blue beam from its antenna, and each officer and his vehicle started to lift off of the ground. Stone immediately hugged one of the younger lieutenants, who deadpanned, "Excuse me, sir...this makes me feel distinctly uncomfortable..."

Before long, they were all awkwardly floating in the air about thirty feet up, unable to so much as move anywhere.

High-Fly continued on its way toward the school...its orders were, given that the DRA had detected some sort of Ranger presence, use its powers in six select locations so as to send the entire school into the sky, where the DRA could simply destroy the Rangers via attrition.

"I have no idea why someone like you was put in charge while Malfien was out, and Warguile planning the infrastructure of the colonies! That is the single stupidest plan I've ever heard, and I've lived through Malfien's worst!"

Skirmash paced back and forth in front of a really stressed looking Sayraq. He then proceeded to lambaste the plan again, "And what would, pray tell, stop the Rangers from forming Megazord and simply putting the school back?"

Sayraq shook his head, the DRA Swordsman was a large, heavily armored creature with a vaguely cybernetic appearance in places, and a single red orb for an eye...which also seemed to function as a voicebox...somehow.

"Skirmash, if you can do better, why don't you?" Why was I put in charge? They know I'm better at slashing things. Even Malfien's better at the commanding thing than I am.

Skirmash adjusted his kabuki mask and groaned, "Why should my genius be used against mere teenagers?"

Deolcia stepped in - the purple and black armor clad, veil wearing sorceress looking rather exasperated, "Those "mere teenagers" are the ones who chased you off last time as I recall."

Skirmash slapped himself in the face, "It was a tactical retreat! I simply needed to...needed to...get a better sword!"

Rupert remained silent - and wisely, so the heavily armored, rather thorny looking creature thought, there are no winners in an argument with Skirmash - there are only people who argued with Skirmash.

Baker watched as the monster attack commenced from the Power Base (a bunker lying underneath an old military base), looking as always grim and yet stoic and composed. He knew he had done a lot of morally questionable things to bring the teenagers together in the new "Neocora District" and that ultimately Neocora's purpose, and the Rangers' purpose, were tied together.

But for now, the first phase was to fight off the DRA's new wave of aggression.

Sayraq was placed in charge of the invading forces while others were either busy - in the case of Warguile - or involved in fighting other Teams Baker had created, with the case of Wartact.

"Well then, I suppose this is the beginning..." A wry, bitter smile formed on his face, "Go, Power Rangers..."

"Another one so soon?" Tony muttered, pausing from her daily regimen to pay attention to the news broadcast she had playing in the background. She mopped herself off with a towel before slinging it over her shoulder. A cup of water. Another pause, and a longing gaze at a heavily guarded refrigerator.

"Not now." She said, her face becoming serious once again, "Gotta bust some heads first." Tony took out her phone, and sent a group text to her teammates, Beck and Alex. The amount of damage that creature was causing was irrelevant. What mattered was that it was there.

Her Ruby Morpher in hand, she burst out the door of their base. Base was a bit of an overstatement, it was just an apartment Tony rented that her teammates could use as common ground.

She paused again. Beck probably wouldn't notice a text. She resigned to call as well.

Caidan let out an annoyed sigh. Every time there was a monster attack, he was in some inconvenient position or another. Currently he was making use of the bathroom. He looked at his red morpher, which took the appearance of a wrist watch, and pulled out his phone. He quickly typed a message to his fellow teammates. Looks like it's monster fighting time guys.

It was days like this, that he wished that he hadn't been relocated to Neocora.

He quickly finished up, and began to race out of the school.

"Here there be witches at the edge of town...Cast them in water, see if they drown..." Beck sang quietly, going through the wallet, the guy who it had belonged to had tried to mug her. It hadn't taken. Her phone rang. The young woman sighed, pulling it out. "Hello?" It was Tony, Beck felt the Morpher. heavy in her pocket. She sighed, "I'll be right here."

Alex heard the warning bell and received the text and made the logical assumption before he'd even checked his phone. He managed to slip out over a low roof and started running. He could probably get there first out of anyone and soon the creature was in sight. He stayed back behind a wall, keeping out of its sight as he observed what it was doing, waiting for either backup or a good opportunity.

Soon enough, Tony reached Alex's location and dove behind some cover. From another wall, she alerted her teammate to her presence through some hand motions.

Looked like this thing had gravity powers. That would be irritating to deal with, certainly. Unless this thing spawned some goons, they'd have to wait for Beck to arrive so that they could all Morph.

Before long, Matthew managed to catch up with Caidan, having gotten through the crowds in the confusion.

"Hey, man, looks like we've got another one..." It had only been about a day and a half since the last monster, and that one had come with a monster that was slightly above the level of a common Monster of the Week - some kind of samurai zombie thing with a kabuki mask.

That was when they really met the Gemstone Team. Though they were definitely on the side of Good, there was something that Matthew found a little suspect about them.

It looked like another member of the Gemstone Team was also approaching Tony and Alex - namely, the team science expert, Thomas Poinfort. As always he was dressed up in a lab coat, and his black hair looked like he had styled it while blind - one bang was curving off to the side from his face, and the rest was gelled back. His eyes were dark grey, and covered by large, blocky glasses.

When he met up with them, he smirked a little, "My calculations dictate that there is a high chance a greater DRA commander will arrive to try to ensure the success of High-Fly's mission. Most likely Skirmash again."

DRA

A figure wearing primarily black moved off of the wall where he had been standing. "Look, Skirmish. This is a pointless argument both you and Sayraq are totally incompetent!" Xenar exclaimed as he entered into the discussion. "I'm more surprised the witch didn't get put in charge while the bosses were out." The alien said indicating Deolcia with the wave of a hand.

"And for future reference, What stops them from merely putting back the school with the megazord is the fact that the building lacks the structural integrity to survive two extreme forces acting on it from different directions."

"Ooohh..." A simultaneous realization, first that such was true, second that the Black Figure had been over there, and third, that he had just described both Sayraq and Skirmash as totally incompetent.

Deolcia, while visibly irate that he had such nerve, did admit to herself that she didn't know why she wasn't put in charge.

Sayraq growled a little and started to draw his scimitar, but stopped. Hmph, rude he may be, but I am no commander. He relaxed, and decided to simply watch the battle going on. There was utterly no point in drawing one's blade on one's own comrades. Words were simply that, words. He would accomplish what he was assigned, even if it was not in his speciality, and regardless what this man said.

Skirmash, unlike Sayraq, immediately drew his fan, which everyone present knew was what turned into his weapon, his sword, and waved its fan form at Xenar, "Why I never! You...you should not get a big head...as you may have heard, I performed well in the DRA Invasion, and I personally conquered the beach front and very valuable territory beloved by our enemies which was also called the "New Jersey"!"

Rupert chuckled a little at this, but stopped when Skirmash also glared at him.

Ken Zengar had lived a fairly simple life before he'd been selected as the Green Ranger. The only rules he had lived by were listen to Dad, train hard, help those in need, and kill every evil thing that you come across. His father had provided for him as best as he was able, and he'd taught him the only skills he truly valued among his admittedly limited repertoire. One thing Gregory had not been able to provide was a standard education. Oh, he taught Ken the best he could, given the circumstances. But Ken's understanding of things most kids his age would know was spotty, at best. Thus, it'd been decided by the guys who managed the Rangers that he should get him some knowledge, and he'd been enrolled in a nearby school.

Ken quickly learned that school was the most boring institution ever invented, and he quickly found himself wondering why he needed to do this. Sure, math could be useful in a fight, he guessed, but why did he need to know the nuances of Catcher in the Rye? How would knowing about the War of 1812 help him fight the DRA? And most importantly, why did he have to wear this god-awful uniform? What was the point? Having everyone dress the same didn't seem to really do anything besides make everyone annoyed at the dress code, at least as far as Ken could tell.

He was getting through another dreadful day of boring shit he neither needed to know nor cared about (except for math, which he needed to know even if he still didn't care about it), his sanity was saved (ironically) by the Monster Attack Bell. Oh thank god! Now he could go out and do something actually worthwhile! Ah, the benefits of being a Power Ranger; not only did monster attacks get him out of class, they also gave him the opportunity to do some good and get stronger.

Ken quickly caught up with Caiden and Matthew, giving them both a nod. "Hey guys. Ready to kick some ass?"

Caidan gave an affirmative nod. There wasn't much for him to say, that hadn't already been said. He held out his morpher and sighed before embarrassedly muttering "It's morphin time." Adorned in his red business suit, Caidan rushed off towards this weeks baddie.

"Oh yeah, lets go get em!"

Matthew, looking right and left, nodded, "Its Morphin' Time!"

In a flash of light, a silver suit appeared on him, numerous lighter silver metal pieces on the shoulders and forearm areas, the helmet forming over Matthew's head and a v shaped visor closed, a rectangular opening below this likewise closing up with a black glass-looking piece.

Matthew looked at the others and then they got a call from Baker, heard on the inside of his helmet or in the case of un-Morphed Rangers, on their Morpher, "Rangers, be careful. We have a strong hint that a DRA Officer is going to be joining the battle, to attempt to enable High-Fly to blast certain areas. No matter what, we cannot allow this to occur."

"Skirmash again, huh. It'll give me a chance to finally punch his face in." Tony replied, her eyes steeling. She took out her morpher, a red colored device that she promptly attached to her wrist. Thrusting her fist forward, she gave the morpher the appropriate vocal command: "It's morphin' time!"

Her body became wreathed in a glassy red substance that was soon cut apart by lasers from unseen sources. As it was cut, the material sparkled. The lasers cut out all of her suit bar that on her arms, which she finished off by bringing her two fists together, shattering the material and revealing her cestus-like weapons. A visor like shape darkened on her helmet as the rest of her suit became a bit more matte in coloration. Her chest armor and the small pauldrons it featured remained a reflective sort of red.

She had to get to that Fly creature before the others did. She was, of course, the most capable person present. Tony rocketed off the ground with her weapons, delivering a punch to the ground that violently shattered the concrete underneath her.

Xenar snorted in derision. "Uhh..yeah, about that. I've been able to tap into an information network, nothing military but casual. They aren't exactly broken up about losing that place." The alien went over to a console and brought up several social sites displaying what he had just said.

"And as it happens Skirmash it turns out you are a bigger idiot, at least Sayraq has enough brains to know blaster beats sword," Xen added as an afterthought.

Thomas smirked darkly, and looked at his Morpher - time to test my theories and see what kind of Mad Science I can base off of this attack. He activated his Morpher, "It is Morphin' Time!"

A bright purple gemstone formed over him, lasers cutting through the material except for the underlying Ranger Uniform and the arms, the arms revealed by Thomas simply pushing through the rock, revealing what looked like a large bunker shield.

"Amethyst Ranger!" He then sighed when he saw his team leader running, er, flying off. Ah the impetuousness of youth...though I'm sixteen so there's not room for me to criticize... He proceeded to run off quickly to try to make sure she didn't bite off more than she could chew.

Skirmash finally simply formed his sword, the blade looking more curved, flame-like than usual, and extending out of what looked like a fan instead of a regular sword-hilt.

Sayraq simply needed to show him a disapproving glare, his red sphere of an eye glowing bright red, "There will be no fighting here, Skirmash!"

Skirmash calmed down and started waving at himself with his free hand, "Well...then I shall be off, to prove once and for all who the superior Officer here is! You just watch in amazement, all of you as Skirmash seals the Rangers' DOOMS!!"

With that, he seemed to disappear into a blast of green lightning that appeared suddenly where he had been standing.

And indeed, as Tony had thought, Skirmash soon enough appeared in front of her, standing next to High-Fly. "Well, Gemstone Ranger, we meet again...seems I've caught you at a bad time...no team to defend you...no friends to back you up...oh I am evil, attacking you like this!"

However, instead of outright attacking her himself, he first threw what looked like a glowing, red and black, craggy rock into the air, which exploded and released a large number of silver armored creatures with blue helmets, a single red eye glaring out of the center of the faces. Each of them wielded what looked like a serrated club.

"Grievers! Attack!" The Grievers charged at Tony with a single-minded behaviour - they were programmed to destroy all DRA Enemies.

We need some rocking music for this and the coming fight.

Beck stopped, she had just turned a corner and at the end of the street were almost a dozen greivers, she cracker her neck, reaching into her pocket. Holding out her morpher, a purple crystally light traveled up her arm, engulfing her entire body.

Where Beck was once walking, A purple warrior strode forward, in one hand was a large battle ax, she tossed it into the air as the hilt extended into a polearm as she caught it, dragging it across the tarmac as she sprinted towards the mob. Before whirling around, delivering the axe into the face of a griever. She turned, seeing her companions. "Sorry I'm late!" She collapsed her weapon back into a tomahawk, slashing another Greiver.

"I don't need a team to beat the hell out of someone like you!" Tony yelled out, pulling back her fists to deliver a powerful blow. The explosion, however, rocketed her off course. She used her gauntlets to brace her own landing before rocketing head first into the crowd of enemies.

Fists ready, she delivered hefty punches to any enemy she had in sight. Tony ducked and weaved around their swinging clubs, often grabbing them and using them against her enemies.

Skirmash could see well enough things were not going as well as he thought they'd go. He'd need to...to step forward...

Oh the woe of having to engage teenagers...

He prepared his sword and rushed right in as Tony got close enough, letting out a battlecry as he did so. He immediately started slashing with his new sword, making it obvious he was at least stronger than a normal Monster. Notably, most of his moves seemed to consist of Iaido inspired movements.

High-Fly meanwhile took aim at Beck as she fought through the Grievers, "Time for you to get some air!" He tried to use his gravity weapon on her, shooting a bright blue blast.

Thomas also arrived and found himself fighting a number of Grievers, outright smashing and pushing down the machines, showing that despite his outwardly "nerdy" appearance, he was apparently incredibly strong in Ranger Form. He'd made alterations to his Morpher based on Data collected from Beck's Morpher, hence the coloration. Now it was time to test this out...

Beck suddenly found herself floating into the air, she looked around gripping her tomahawk tightly as she looked around, grabbing the head of the nearest greiver...Only to pull them into the air too....Actually, she was surrounding by flying greivers..."Tony! Tony managed to block a sizeable number of the slashes with her gauntlets, but one of them managed to get through her defenses. It cut a swathe of sparks across her chest armor, sending her spinning to the ground. With one hand, she nimbly spun around before landing and tossed herself back in the air.

"A new sword? That's not going to help you at all!" She yelled out, steady anger audible in her voice. She took up a boxing stance and began her own onslaught of punches, hooks, and jabs.

Skirmash tried his best to block or evade the attacks, but found himself caught by a combo and sparks exploded off of him as he was thrown backward, looking like he was incredibly angered...though he realized that this wasn't the girl he terrorized before.

Could it be...the pitiful humans were getting stronger?

He managed to get back up nonetheless, "Human, I rose from the honored Samurai dead, and I will not stand by as some...some rube in red mocks me!" It looked like he started channeling energy into the sword, blue flames forming on the blade and as he slashed with it several more times, blue flames shaped like slashes flew off the blade at Tony.

DRA

Deolcia watched looking ready for something when a larger monster entered, apparently some sort of anthropomorphized tank with a saurian head with beetle-like horns, numerous miscellaneous pieces of technology connected to him. This was Brawlus, Wartact's other general.

The witch immediately mentioned the mission, "Where were you, Brawlus? The Gemstone Team is stronger than before..."

Brawlus fired an energy blast at the ceiling, silencing any chatter, "I only take orders from the one in command. Not some reaching fools who have OMNI's ear."

Sayraq felt like introducing his, er, face to his palm. "Very well, Brawlus...engage them and assist your comrade."

Deolcia remarked as he left, "...Hmph, as impetuous and ill-tempered as always."

Down at the battle, Wartact's minion Brawlus landed out of a black portal, and took a moment to survey the fight. He noted High-Fly about to attack Beck as she struck at the floating Grievers.

He stomped over and growled, "You have a mission get to it."

With that, he took aim at Beck, "Target Sighted - Tank Cannon Attack!" The tank cannon, normally resting on his back, flipped forward over the right shoulder and shot what looked like a bright red crackling beam.

"I'll put you back in the ground, then." Tony responded, gritting her teeth as she crossed her arms.

The shielding of her gauntlets would, in theory, deflect a majority if not all of those spectral flame slashes. If not, well she could always punch them away. The simplest solution was usually varying degrees of punching.

Tony wasn't stupid, she just had come to the realization that might makes right.

Alex wasn't too fond of their transformation call but so far had not been able to change it. He attached his morpher to his wrist and drew his arm across his body dramatically while shouting.

"It's morphing time!"

A huge gem formed around him and lasers cut it away before he pulled his arms back, cutting off the remaining gem with his claws. His visor formed, widening across his helmet.

The sapphire ranger charged forward, firing his claws at one of the grievers and then pulling himself towards it before slashing with the other claw.
