This is a problem involving inconsistency between the lead and the Laconic. Specifically:

So, the lead, as I understand it, is a defiance of the Laconic. This subtle difference may affect how different example are played....any idea on this? Thanks!

It's wrong to screw with other people's minds. So the good guys don't do it.

The laconic is perhaps downplaying it a bit, but there is no inconsistency.

Agreed, no real inconsistency. However [up]this[up] restatement is a much better candidate for the Laconic than the current one.
