Fair enough. Hopefully Ainori doesn't give him any reason to oppose.

Okay, I get that Horuhito's probably not in good shape to directly address that revolution, so I doubt he'd bring out the scrolls unless it was 100% vital. He's hoping he might just get an audience by merit of his claims and that a new monarch is entitled to open dialog with his subjects so as to solidify a plan of action moving forward.

That's reasonable. He couldn't know that Ainori already understands that her role isn't just a luxury, that she has to serve those who serve her.

Guess that leaves the priest/priestess area wide open. I'm thinking of doing a drunken possessed priestess/monk. I'll write up a sheet tomorrow.

Red Savant: Touka is approved.

daird: Junichi is approved, though I'd remove the being able to see Youkai bit unless you can explain or support it.

kkhohoho: Jiroh is somewhat denied. If he's current serving general of the Mitsumine he wouldn't be anywhere close to where we'll be starting. I'd also take away the cut everything away of ki reinforced sword slashes, instead just making the strikes harder than with more of a cut than normal. Too high level unless he was retired old codger living in the fields coming for a new adventure and lacking in influence.

taco: Katsuo is not approved. His backstory doesn't work as there are no Shogun to topple and if he did, that would be a setting altering event of great proportions.

Saturn: Gintarou's powers should be toned down somewhat as well as his backstory. He should also have some sort of connection to the heir if he's going to serve her.

Tsubaki: Approved, though you should tone down her hearing. Specially if it works on normal conversations and sounds instead of just the supernatural.

Goodisgood: Similar problem to Jiroh. Spymaster with assassins and ears in the whole lands of the clan and beyond is too much for the current setting. If he was retired and worked a much smaller operation serving Takeshi that'd be better.

Sg Pendulum: Yasu may need to be reworked, her backstory is a bit all over the place. 16 years of a normal life, decided its boring, goes to the city and after failing at many things succeeds at robbing a noble on the first try without any training, skills or anything and then becomes a profession thief? Not to mention then becoming proficient with ninja weapons. Additionally, you don't usually train to become a Samurai. You are born to the caste and trained since you are a child.

Nman: Seeing the changed needed in Jiroh, your character may need reworking as well. Suddenly doing a spirit attack strong enough to kill all Oni without a single bit of training, the magical blade... I may need to say no the character as a whole. It's a bit too discordant.

Troy: Goto is not approved. Ronin kid wanting to kill the Mitsumine in a Mitsumine RP is a no no. The backstory is also hard to excuse as a samurai, his father must have been a Mitsumine vassal to generally be close enough to be killed by another.

Tricksen: Taro is not approved. Someone like him may be a good villain, though I'd have to tweak the backstory. Still, no PC material.

If I'm sure of something it's that I'm not sure of anything.

No problemo. With not much official word to go off of, I was scaling to what I saw and figured I'd have to change it, it should be fixed now.

Also with the way plurals work, I should specify that I was talking about a single Oni, hence my use of it rather than they.

It only works on the supernatural, but I'll still tone it down to where she can't pick out individual conversations by choice. Like, she'll get random stuff but she can't actually choose what she hears. So she can't become some sort of supernatural spy or something, except by circumstance. So I only overhear player youkai or NPC youkai if I'm allowed to, otherwise it's just random background characters with no bearing on the plot.

Worst comes to worst, I'll replace the spymaster with a meatier character, like the sumo/proto-sumo I'd suggested earlier. Might just start working on a profile for him now, I'm stoked for it.

  • Name: Yamakaze Ougen
  • Age: 19 years old
  • Appearance: A handsome young man with a few scars after duels and other fights. He tends to keep his hair long and free most of the time but when it's time for more courtly things or he knows he's going to fight he ties it up into a ponytail and most of the time when not in armor he dresses in a dark blue/white kimono both with or without hakama. Beneath the eyepatch his eye is horribly burned.
  • Personality: Ougen is a young man longing to prove himself on a proper battlefield and wash away the stigma of his Ronin heritage. He is a diligent student, loyal and honorable dedicated to fulfilling his duties, though he is not without humor and he enjoys poetry and watching the cherry blossoms.\\
He becomes quite nervous around women, unused to their presence due to having grown up in a obscure dojo without any female students and his mother dying in childbirth. This is entirely flipped over when he gets drunk, after having drunken a little bit too much sake he becomes a confident and charming womanizer.
  • Skills/Abilities:
    • Swordsmanship: Ougen is despite his young age an accomplished swordsman and duelist, he may not be good enough to be counted as among the best yet but the fact that he is very good is undeniable. This is helped by the fact that he is the heir of the Yamakaze Tenraiken Ryu school, a sword school specializing in the use of a single katana both in regular battle and iaijutsu which makes it place heavy emphasis on speed, it's philosophy even being "One should always cut first and last". The most important technique Ougen has learnt so far is the Sata no Hana, Starlight Flower, technique, an Iaijutsu technique intended to be used when surrounded it allows the user to cut down all enemies within reach with a single strike when mastered.
    • Archery: Also part of the Yamakaze curriculum is archery so it is something that Ougen has practiced most of his life, alas, due to his unusable eye his skills with the bow are diminished.
    • Unarmed combat: Ougen has also been taught unarmed combat since even before he was trained with a sword in order to still be able to fight even if his sword is unavailable.
    • Survival: Ougen has been taught how to scavenge the wilds for food as well as setting up camp and navigation by his father.
    • Poetry: Being a samurai Ougen has also beeen taught how to write poetry, although he is not that good at it.
  • Resources/Equipment of note:
    • Daisho: A katana named Mangetsu, Full moon, and a wakasashi.
    • Armor: A suit of light armor that provides protection without hampering movement.
    • Tanto: A knife used primarily for utility.
  • Backstory: Long before Ougen had been born his father, Yamakaze Hibiki, had lost his master and had become a Ronin, a wandering samurai. He wandered about doing whatever he could to earn more money until he was rewarded with becoming a retainer of the clan thanks to his service in the last war against the Tiger Clan when he took the head of an enemy general. After that he created a new dojo for the Yamakaze Kenjutsu, the family sword school.
Ougen's mother was a woman who his father had met and married during his Ronin days, unfortunately she did not survive giving birth to her son during the midst of cherry blossom season. Thus without siblings and few friends Ougens childhood was a little lonely, most of his childhood was spent training under his father in the family dojo. He lost his eye when he was little as he got too close to a smiths forge and the sparks and fire burnt it, incidentally this happened during the forging of what is now his own blade, Mangetsu, and some may say that it has been bonded to him.
He won his first duel to first blood when he was 15, defeating the heir to a rival school and since then he has won many more duels, losing only twice.

@Daltar: Sorry, but you'll have to elucidate for me. What about Jiroh is 'too far away'? And if he can't be a general, than what can be, exactly?

I think she means that he'd probably be stationed somewhere else

[up]In that case, is there some other high-ranking position where he wouldn't be stationed somewhere else? Because I can't seem to think of any.

And he doesn't have to be stationed there; he could be on a visit, on some sort of official business. What business that would be, I'm not exactly sure...

As for Junichi's ability to see the supernatural, how about a priestess sister who taught him to manage his (very minor) gifts?

@KK: I think the high-powered position is the problem, from what daltar's saying. Unless he's retired from military service, he has too much influence in the political sphere to make the RP anything but 'Ainori wants X to happen', 'Jirou leans on people until X happens'.

It's been fun.

@KK: You probably know this already, but be careful about how you approach opposing Ainori. Many of the nobles (especially Takeshi) have her support, so if you're not careful old Ghiren might find himself as the leader of the Cannon Fodder platoon.

You assume much, young heir! Many things can change in 12 years and that's why I can't have player character be the current general of the land. They would be serving the guys who have been ruling the country these past 12 years.

If I'm sure of something it's that I'm not sure of anything.

[up]I'm confused. I assumed that the General would be serving the current ruler of the land, which in this case would be the Heir.

In any case, I might just scrap the General altogether, (sorry Nman,) and go with my other idea of a Nekomata kunoichi, which I was more enthusiastic about in the first place. I just thought I'd have more of a role in the RP with the General.

Though apparently, the only character you want to have any kind of real power in the RP is the heir, which I'm actually starting to have problems with. It means that the other RP'ers are just bit players by comparison, at least so long as you don't let other players have major roles. I'm still in, but I'm just kind of miffed by it, is all.

I didn't want to outright come out and say it but...

The Heir will have to fight or at least maneuver politically to actually become ruler of the Wolf Clan. A branch family of the Mitsumine have been settled in the capital for 12 years, running the whole clan with some communication with Takeshi from time to time but they have become comfortable holding onto the power. And with Takeshi having gone off into the woods for all these years instead of consolidating his power after his brother died and the heir being a completely unknown factor, the branch family will do their best to keep their current influence and power. They are in the capital of the nation, having to deal with the security, politics and economy of the clan. For more than a decade. I'd say they are well entrenched.

Thus, a general of any importance or spymaster would be currently serving the branch family, not the Heir, even if they were still loyal to Takeshi.

[up][up]No problem with me. I mainly had most of my character figured out independently, I just thought it would be interesting to make them related to another character so I sought to add that, but it was supplementary not critical to their existence. I could always change to a normal character who just happens to be working there. I figure that since the RP will probably focus on two characters at once, I'd need to have things to talk about so the other ten people aren't stuck killing time.

[up][up]Hey, if it means I understand what you're trying to go for, I have no problem with you saying it outright. Better to be loud and clear than misunderstood.

That said, now I get what you're trying to say here. Sorry about that. With that said, I think I'll just scrap the general altogether and go with my nekomata kunoichi. You wouldn't have any problems with nekomata kunoichi's, would you?

[up]Okay then; thanks.smile
