Contemporary music replacing the jazzy stuff Betty made famous? Not sold.
On the other hand... Creepy CGI Betty Boop...
Of course, don't you know anything about ALCHEMY?!- Twin clones of Ivan the GreatBut Betty BOOP has always used contemporary music. The jazz was contemporary when she was in her heyday

It's also as iconic to her as her ginormous noggin.
Of course, don't you know anything about ALCHEMY?!- Twin clones of Ivan the GreatBoy, if there's ever been a character who would look nightmare-inducing Uncanny Valley in CGI, that's gotta be Betty.
Question: Is this a remake made to make money or a remake made to be sexist, since Betty didn't do much back in the days?
Dakota's blog An odd agent of justiceAmusingly, if they decide to just go the textbook for-the-money route and make it an all out kids movie, they'll be repeating what made Betty lose popularity in the first place.
"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain. As if Hollywood was remotely Genre Savvy.
I wonder if this hurts or helps my dream of seeing a Betty Boop cartoon that takes heavy advantage of the 1930s setting.
Never trust anyone who uses "degenerate" as an insult.Maybe Betty will be live-action and characters like Bimbo will be CG.
"YOU FILTHY SWINE!!! I WILL KEEEEL YOU!!!Then you might as well not call her Betty Boop.
Of course, don't you know anything about ALCHEMY?!- Twin clones of Ivan the GreatHate to sound like a bitter old person, but WHY!? Betty boop should be left alone. She has already been ruined by the mid 30s and the heneral public seems to only know her from merchandise, which isn't bad per say, but rather sad.
Supports cartoons being cartoony!I could be on board with an Animated Betty Boop film (even if it was CGI cartoon), this just sounds like a bad idea.
... I came into this thread to find out what the hell this is supposed to look like, and my question remains unanswered and gnawing away at my fragile soul.
I don't know how I really feel about this to be honest. Some of the issues I have with live action and CGI hybrid remakes of old cartoon classics is that they modernized the material so much that they take away from what made the original cartoon so good in the first place, so it would be interesting to see where they take this movie.
I love animation, TV, movies, YOU NAME IT!I wonder how this would work: Would Betty be CGI all the time or change into an human actress on entering the 'real world'? (that would resolve the Uncanny Valley issue.) And if so, whom? Would there be humor aimed at adults, but not too blatant so as to make it acceptable for most audiences? What about the other characters (is Bimbo too offensive today?) And just what would the story be- maybe a rip-off of Weird Science with Betty coming to life to help with some loser's love problems?
If they manage to handle all of that well, I might be interested. But I think it will be hard.
If Betty spends most of the movie with realistic proportions, what's the point of making a Betty Boop movie?
Of course, don't you know anything about ALCHEMY?!- Twin clones of Ivan the GreatFUCKIN' MONEY is the reason.

Dakota's blog An odd agent of justiceI'd like to remind people that the last time Betty Boop was brought back, in two animated specials from the 80s, they kept the jazz in.
I don't see why making Betty Boop more contemporary should be a thing in light of that.
"They say I'm old fashioned, and live in the past, but sometimes I think progress progresses too fast."That was rude.
Let's rephrase, then, bypassing the fact Betty Boop hasn't proved to be a moneymaking juggernaut in decades. 'What kind of CREATIVE point would there be on making a Betty Boop movie then?'
Ok, let me just say for a second that even if Betty isn't well remembered back in the golden era, you don't need to change anything that defined her style except mabey a few risque subjects. In fact, the only reason I can think of as to why they would make this film is for MORE MONEY on a licensed character, which usually never works well with those characters.
Dakota's blog An odd agent of justiceThat wasn't my point. My point was, if, as Sijo said, Betty would spend most of the movie as a live-action human with realistic proportions, what's the point of making it a Betty Boop movie if she's not gonna look like Betty Boop?
Of course, don't you know anything about ALCHEMY?!- Twin clones of Ivan the GreatIt wouldn't make sense, but that's just what today's movies based on cartoons tend to do because they can. That's just my only reason.

It's nice to know the original cartoons are getting released on great blu-rays and DV Ds, and it's interesting to see Betty Boop is getting back in the limelight again, and given a contemporary spin.
