I just want to know why we say its dying. Not the first time I heard this, but is there a server or website somewhere that keeps polls on which fighting game is dying.

Live-service DLC kills anything that isn't an MMO or running on Disney/Blizzard money, and even Overwatch is failing due to playing dirty pool. Games like this feel like they have a 2-3 month lifespan before I see a Youtube video saying "its dead."

Well, MK 12 just got confirmed for the main EVO 2024 lineup so its still going in some sort of sense. Although that is more or less just a AAA showcase with the occasional obligatory 3rd Strike or Super Turbo.

also, Ketchup just did a video on the most broken specials in the series. Did you ever know how much degenerate shit Subbie's Ice Clone was in vanilla MK 3?

You have to really, really, really screw up to be a major fighting game release with decent mechanics and not end up on the EVO main floor.

MVCI is the only time I remember it happening, and that's because that game was a complete and utter PR disaster never since seen in the fighting game industry.

For what I get people are mad because delays between news from devs, people are getting sick of the media silence also some issue people dislike the game dosent have crossplay or other stuff it should have. specially with fierce competion like SF 6 and tekken

People are mad at MK 1 in general, or mad that its being "rewarded" for its perceived failures with a spot at EVO?

So Peacemaker's intros are bit-by-bit being shown off and, well, apart from John Cena actually having fun with the role and doing a good job, his "defending" intro has him shaking off his arm and going "Jesus! What the hell?!" I actually thought that was specific to Omniman since that's where I first saw it, but he does it against Johnny Cage too and its like "Wow Johnny's not even got superpowers in this timeline now". It was also the dialogue where Peaceman wanted to do a streaming series based on one of Cage's suggestions.

"Ow, Johnny! C'mon, we'll put it on Blu-ray eventually! You don't gotta be a poopoo head!"

Shame Peace-o's gun shooting stance in game is pretty fuckin whack tho.

The one I saw was a white dude complaining that the developers made Janet Cage as a self-insert character, nobody asked for Janet Cage as a kameo, and that she was supposed to be Johnny Cage and the developer lied about what was being offered.

Phrases like "weaponized oppression" and "looks like a twink."

So, that guy's not hiding that he has issues. Most of the comments ignore that and comment that it would've been better used as a slot for Cassie Cage, or that the name could've been Jenny Cage instead of Janet Cage.

Anyway Ketchup put out two companion videos: one about lower tier characters having surprisingly OP moves which came out a few weeks ago and another a day ago about top tier ones having not so good moves that nobody uses (Kabal's buzzsaw in MK 3 was kinda rubbish but with everything else he had it didn't affect him at all):

I tried to embed them but for some reason the embed system just won't work properly so you just get links instead. But long story short, MK 9 Quan Chi's Rune Trap is his saving grace while UMK 3 Kabal's buzzsaw is a very tiny black mark on his record.

Oh, I'm sure they hated Kung Jin, too. I personally think they just didn't have as much reach back when MKX launched in early 2015, whereas here in 2024, algorithms and such have advanced so that grifters can now make a killing by making videos of them complaining about how "woke" everything is and they'll have plenty of bigoted idiots ready to lap it up the second those videos get uploaded.

And they probably get boosted by hatewatchers and "dunkers" as much as their fans. Its a vicious cycle.

Anyway in happier news, I'm hoping further showings of Ketchup and Mustard's videos catches on. Its showed that despite how shallow old MK games seem, people still delve quite deep into them.

Mavado's change from stealing Kabal's swords to having Flubbers in both arms is kind of neat. Ermac is living proof that you can in fact get bodied by a ghost.

Mavado always had the bungee thing. It was part of his DA Fatality, too. He even got that finisher remade here.

Giving Ermac his mask back was an improvement.

Although I remember in MKDA Mavado just dug his boots into your body and yanks your organs out with his boots when done rather than just kicking you in half.

Yeah, but it was still him slingshotting himself into the opponent, now, it's gorier or he just goes faster.

People listened to the complaints about Ermac's design, thank God.
