First off, welcome aboard new writer! You'll like it here.

Second, Henry is certainly promising. I mean, I don't know enough about him so far to make any definitive statements, but I can't see any big problems with him. Is there anything specific you would like advice on, or do you just want a general feel for how good of a character he is?

Happy Holidays to everyone! Have a great end of the year, and an even better 2015- you all deserve it!

Ah, okay. Well, based on the information, he seems generally fine, so long as he's written well (though that of course applies to all characters)

I have a couple questions about your character.

  • 1. What country does he live in? (because that would affect a lot of his cultural customs and such)

  • 2. If he's over 1500 y/o, (and this takes place in the modern day) he would have been born in about 440 A.D. which is before the Roman empire had fallen. This makes the fact he is ethnically Chinese/White a little more complicated, but definitely not impossible or unbelievable. China was actually known for its sea exploration for a short time in history, so having people from China (or Roman people in China) wouldn't be too much of a stretch (writer's have fudged far more of world history)
Keep in mind that A. He definitely would NOT have identified as "White" or "half-White" (at least growing up) as that concept of race literally did not exist at that point in history. Whatever culture he adopted the customs of (dress, religion, etc.) would be considered his cultural identity.

  • 3. Have you been researching mental illness? If you think you have a good idea of what Bipolar disorder or OCD is like, you probably don't (not to be nasty, it's just that there are little/no accurate portrayals of Bipolar Disorder or OCD in media, ESPECIALLY OCD) Make sure do LOTS of research regarding this (if you can find articles written by people who actually HAVE the illness, that's even better) if you choose to go in this direction with his character (I thought it was a little tacked on and unnecessary, but if you feel it is a crucial part of the character, by all mean include it) Also, keep in mind that for a majority of his lifetime he would not only have no idea what was wrong with himself, he would also have literally no way to treat his condition.

Hope this can help you in some way and I wish you the best of luck with your writing ( ยด ▽ ` )ノ

Thank you for your comments for your questions my answers are

1 Henry has lived in America since the late 1500's and has lived in multiple places in recent history from New york in the turn of the century and early 2000's Chicago in the 20's Nevada in the 30's California in the 40's to the mid 50's back in the 60's and 80's Virginia in the late 50's 90's and present day and in Oregon in the 70's

2 I just used race to give people an idea what he looks like. his father was a Roman centurian who traveled to china after leaving the roman army and traveled back to constantinople till his death early in henrys life leaving him to be raised by a noble friend of his

3 I do not have the best understanding but his disorders are a little more recent possibly due the the physicl stress of being so old or mental stress but his ocd is in the form of he likes to focus on the one detail that grabs his attention and exteamly maticalious instructions for those who follow him and his bipolar is in the form of jumping form one emotion to another in short amounts of time note i do not have the best understanding of these disorders so i may be off

again thank you for the help

If you don't have the best of knowledge about these disorders, are you entirely sure you want them to be there? Are they completely necessary for his character?

I mean, I am not trying to call them a bad character or something; but you should probably consider these things if you want to use him in a more serious manor in the future. I guess that for now it might be fine if you're just using him in fanfics, but you should still research the disorders thoroughly to write them properly. You understand?

Anyways, besides that, you seem to have a good handle on your character.

I can see that. I'd research it just a bit more before you start writing him, but yeah, unless you know for a fact you can pull the OCD off, I'd erase that part for now.

And I edited my post by the way tongue

Thank you I have had this character in my mind for years but never written anything with him yet.from my research on the National Institute of Mental Health website I think I can write using extream mood swings from fast talking cycles to slowing down and forgetting things and losing focus on what he was doing at the time but i may leave the established mental disorders out

That'll probably best, until you're skills improve to cover real disorders.

Anyways, glad I could help! Good luck with your writing.
