And is anybody really that surprised? This is like the third completely unfounded Silent Hills-related rumor that's been passed around in the last six months or so.

I decided one thing I'd really like to see in the next iteration of Silent Hill. I want the iconic fog to be a really impressive technical aspect of the game. I'd love to see for it to become more than just render distance cover like it was before and more graphically enhance the ethereal nature of the setting. Walking the normal town only for it to slowly become foggier over a period of time until it's the town we remember could look amazing. And with some of the clouds shown in Red Dead Redemption 2, I think it could totally be possible soon.

As for things I really don't want to see, I don't really care about anything related to the cult and think it's best forgotten about. I think it was cliche even in the late 90s long after the Satanic Panic and even more played out 30 years later. I think there's a reason most people consider the second game the defining installment of the series and it resonated with players for years later.

SILENT HILLREMAKE Y'ALL

If Resident Evil can do it then so can Silent Hill! Who's with me!?

Socratic seminar! Would anybody actually want a remake? Who would make it? What features would you specifically want to return/included?

And while we're at it how about a Siren/Fatal Frame reboot/remake?

so i am actually on a kick replaying all the old school team silent Silent Hill games (and origins), and I have to say i am not sure how a remake in the style of how R E2make updated the original RE 2 would best work.

Obviously the tank controls would be tossed out, because selling a high profile remake with tank controls to a mass market would be unthinkable. as fine as i am with them them, you are not going to get modern audiences on board with them. but the tank controls did allow the game 1 benefit: the developers can control where the camera is.

See, as an amateur game maker who is friends with an amateur film maker, I am keenly aware just how much power being able to control the camera is in a visual medium. most games, however, are not able to capitalize on that for game play reasons. In replaying the old SH games, I think the developers don't always use this rare benefit to its maximum capacity, but when they do, it is excellent.

for example, the opening segment in SH 1 of harry walking down the back alleyways as the sirens begin to blare and the world shifts, all they while the camera looks on in its off high angle, often rapid shifting perspectives design to disorientate is so good, when Christoph Gans was adapting the game into the Silent Hill Movie, he kept that sequence roughly shot for shot because it is so good.

Basically, what I am saying is the creative camera work in Silent Hill is a feature any good remake would be keen to keep. that is assuming it didn't try switching the perspective to first person, which would be a choice i am two minds of.

Funny, I started playing SH 2 recently for the first time on PC with the Extended Edition mod. It's much better than playing the game on PS 2 and looks pretty good. Pretty dumb that it's so hard to actually get the PC version of SH 2 legally anywhere. You basically have to pay through the nose for copies on ebay or acquire it through perfectly legal channels.

Kind of a shame that I already spoiled myself on all the big twists of this game years ago. It would have been nice to go in blind.
