With Jerkass Has a Point, does anyone in-story have to acknowledge that the jerkass has, or may possibly have, a point?

I ask because some examples (like the Empowered one) have the character(s) dismiss the jerkass in-story, and I'm wondering if it's misuse if only the reader acknowledges that the jerkass may have a point.

I don't think so, though Jerkass Has a Point does have to be intentional on the author's part.

So it doesn't matter if the reader is the only one who sees the point, as long as the writer intended to evoke that reaction either way?

If so, there's probably still misuse there. :P
