[up] If there was a continuation, I would like for it to expand beyond Kaneki.

Perhaps dealing with the rebuilt world, and how it's changed. Maybe even go the Boruto route, and follow the Touken child? I think there's fertile ground there, because everything is going to change but there will still be tensions and conflicts, and probably radical factions that don't want peace.

Two left. Kaneki vs. Dragon!Rize. There are a few close calls but Kaneki brakes through to Rize's main body. He apologizes and the chapter ends with him running her through.

Zero tension. But it's been that for awhile.

I dunno know last week it was this guy who beat Eto, but the week before it was this group called V, and before that it was Eto.

That guy was our only real face of V, who has had no real character build up as an antagonist and the story gave so little focus. The Clowns were more proper villains but two are "redeemed" but boring and their boss dies fittingly. And Furuta's fight is a joke Fitting end for a memer.

I'd honestly prefer headless Eto's corpse as the last boss over the V guy who I can't even remember the name of.

Itori and Uta.

With Nico they actually had him straight up not get involved at all with the final battle and had a point of saying he marches to his own drum, so after helping GOAT he just leaves for who knows where.

Cpnsidering all their actions to even the final battle they should be executed for their crimes against ghouls and humans, and they make it clear that regardless of V being dismantled ghouls will still be ostracized.

But after this sappy speech this chapter I'm expecting Protagonist-Centered Morality will have things turn out okay for them all. Even Eto. And well, it just breaks the story for me.

With Kanou at least I saw him escape his just desserts by killing himself, or hoping to get actual details in Hide because it just seems likd he's alive so Kaneki can actually have a happy ending. Hell I'm not even expecting his child to be impaired in any way even when Dragon Spawn beat the shit out of Touka including her stomach.

In terms of in-series punishment for crimes, I think the alliance has to do a general amnesty kind of deal. Otherwise, how do you pick and choose who is punished and who gets off? Because until now, that has simply been a matter of ghouls being automatically punished, and humans perhaps getting a slap on the wrist IF they piss people off.

But everyone in this series has gotten their hands dirty, and they've done awful things to each other.

Does Juzuou deserve to be punished for massacring ghouls and humans? For serving as Furuta's attack dog during his regime?

Does Naki deserve to be punished for the people he killed?

Does Mutsuki deserve to be punished for killing and torturing?

How about Touka, who killed Kureo Mado and several other people?

Then there's Akira, who was an active participant in experimentation on living ghouls.

How about Amon, who helped orphan Hinami and Hakatori?

Tsukiyama, who killed a lot of people in gruesome ways for his "cuisine"?

Koori Ui, who acted as Furuta's right-hand man?

Kimi, who worked for Dr. Kanou?

Once they start going into who did what awful thing, it would never end. They would be fighting over which crimes to pardon or punish, and which lives have more value instead of focusing on rebuilding.

There are people who caused very clear death on a grander scale than others, and that's where I find the argument falls apart.

V, Eto, the Clowns including Itori and Uta, etc.

Giving amnesty to everyone doesn't work especially when a number never did anything to help in the grand schemes of it all, and Eto is outright the leader of a terrorist organization and unapologetic about how she wanted the world to burn as much as Furuta does.

There's always going to be levels to the aweful things people do, and Juuzou never does anything truly bad under Furuta's reign and even had to be "forced" to help via blackmail considering Furuta had an actual group of groomed legion of Tykebombs and a legit serial killer that is Mutsuki and their lapdog Quinx.

I mean if Furuta is somehow still alive would he be given amnesty just because he planned to fuck over V during this battle with intentionally misleading information on who died? Of course not. Especially when he already got off light with his "I resign" shit as the Director of the CCG.

At the end of the day there are still people who really are blameless like Hide, and if he ever did anything aweful is never suggested.

Just the very idea that you want to see MORE suffering boggles my mind to an absurd degree. Not even talking about who needs to be punished (Where I'm mostly with you). Just the going on about, "Oh yeah I bet Touka will have her kid just fine" like you want her to miscarry and be miserable just cause "MUH ANGSTY ARTY ENDING" makes me have shitfit spasms like you would not believe.

Like, I usually don't point fingers at people for being asinine on this forum (because we're all fuckers who are guilty of it at some point) and starting beef but, dude, really? REALLY?

I don't expect her to be miserable. I'm expecting her to shoulder the burden that in order to save Kaneki she had to give up her child, and live with it with Kaneki who will help her. Because that's what she had to do to save him.

Actions having repurcussions is something I expect. Like King Kaneki being a complete moron and a crappy ruler. So his stupidity and incompetence got him Dragon'd as a result.

And one more chapter to go.

I definitely fall into the side of the fandom that feels like Executive Meddling has been at play since the mid-point of the series. You can almost literally see a defined point where things started to become rushed, and there have been a few posted-then-deleted things from Ishida indicating some frustrations.

Either way, it feels like an end of an era after years spent following this series.
