I'm just waiting for the inevitable Atrocity of Wish2023 (unless he surprises us and it turns out he LIKED that movie)

Mr. Enter reviews "Fun-Believable", an episode from the modern era of SpongeBob, to verify the claims of SpongeBob becoming bad again.

Spoiler: the claims are true, but the show got bad for different reasons than seasons 6 and 7.

Also, I was expecting him to review "Plane to Sea", another bad modern SpongeBob episode.

You're not supposed to just link video embeds without a summary of the contents, and as embeds are currently borked, we have no idea what you're trying to share.

Sorry.

Long story short, one of Enter’s former editors did some serious shit and it’s important that as many people know about it as possible.

[up] Yep.

And based on a comment on the Youtube Drama subreddit, its looking like she will be dropping off Youtube. The comment has Starlight's take on it posted on Discord where she claims innocence.

[up] She's an incredibly toxic narcissist who abuses and underpays her staff, forces them into uncomfortable work (such as forcing one to recount being raped as a child to cover Star's ass), shoves her fetishes into everything, and harbors child predators so much that one of their victims' mothers thought she was running a pedophile ring. There's more but that's the gist of it. To think me and her were once friends.

You are close to this story?

Do you believe the allegations?

I do believe the allegations. Me and Star were friends but not super close. I didn't notice any red flags, but I'm oblivious as hell socially. She never took my advice (such as toning down her anger) and I noticed countless examples of her plagiarizing Mr.Enter.

A few times on his server, after cutting ties with Rebecca. I find my days as a fan of his to be an Old Shame and I'm not sure his content has improved so I don't still follow Enter. In hindsight I think I liked him was because he has autism, so I subconsciously was attracted to his content.

Honestly same. He was more willing to speak about it than anyone else I'd seen at the time. I dropped off when I realized he kinda sucked at talking about experiences he doesn't have.

I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe.

[up][up]

I have a lot of respect for him as a person, but there's big one thing that kind of rubs me the wrong way about him, and it really isn't his fault.

See, I feel like, on balance, Mr. Enter has done more harm than good to the animation fandom. I don't say that as an attack on the man himself— again, he clearly knows his stuff and he seems to be a nice guy— but rather on the many self-proclaimed cartoon fans I've talked to over the years who simply parrot his opinions and his terminology.

A lot of the more obnoxious traits of the "cartoon community" as a whole can be traced back to the stuff he says in his reviews. The overuse of buzzwords like "mean-spirited", constant bashing of Teen Titans Go, SpongeBob SquarePants and Family Guy, gushing over shows like My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic and Gravity Falls to the point of acting like they're the target audience, and a tendency to treat certain studio CEOs as inhumanly evil. And while Mr. Enter himself has moved on from most of that, the cartoon community as a whole hasn't.

This is a problem. Mr. Enter was probably the first real "figurehead" that people in the animation fandom had, and as such he irrevocably colored the way they approach and analyze the media they consume. It even affects what shows get talked about most in animation message boards and forums. Mr. Enter's reviews mostly covered kids' cartoons and Animated Shock Comedy series, and the generation of cartoon fans who followed him tend to focus on the same things. There's a lot less discussion of, for example, adult animated dramas like Primal and Invincible, even though the increasing presence of those shows is arguably one of the most important trends in animation history. Serious animation for adults becoming common and mainstream? You'd think the cartoon community would be all over that, but instead they mostly focus on Disney Channel, Nick, and Cartoon Network shows— again, because that's what Mr. Enter did.

It's kind of like what Jurassic Park did for paleontology— it got a lot of people interested in dinosaurs, but it also raised a whole generation of kids to think Velociraptors were six feet tall and scaly, and Dilophosaurus could spit venom.

I'm not blaming Mr. Enter as a person for any of this, but I definitely think his influence hasn't done good things for the animation fandom.

[up]A lot of this seems to be simply from popularity of Caustic Critic

but i have to say: when I was younger I prefered Animated Atrocities, however now i can barely stand them, and Admirable Animations is obviously the better thing

I haven't seen Enter's stuff in a long while, but I was a big fan at one point. Some thoughts on my end:

  • Growing up I recall there being episodes of shows that I just did not like, often for the reasons Enter points out. Seeing someone like Enter point out the flaws in these episodes made me pretty happy, not just for catharsis but also to hear someone say that they had the same sorts of opinions.

  • He made many good insights. I'd say the one that sticks out to me is one suggestion he made about slapstick: ideally the guy receiving the punishment should be in a situation where they could turn stop at any time, but are too stubborn to do that.

  • His biggest weakness at the time IMO is that his commentary often wasn't playful, but often unironically bitter and even humorless.

  • He had a tendency to go out of his way to find the worst of the worst. Combined with the above it's hard to watch. Also not insightful IMO. When you're looking for something to dissect why it failed, you don't necessarily want something godawful, you want something that fell short of its actual potential.

Enter has his good and bad qualities. A lot of things about him rub me the wrong way (his opinion on Family Guy being negative all the time, bashing cartoon writers, his stance of masks) But he's apologized for the latter 2 things and his content seems to be getting better and he is growing and changing as a person. He's not perfect, but he isn't the scum of the Earth and knows to apologize when he screws up.

It was nice to see him kind of admit his statement about the Homer Badman stuff was wrong. That was the first major red flag for me (since I got into him after he'd apologized for his SpongeBob stuff). In fact I'm still reluctant to even watch the episode because I associate it with that take, even though it's not what the episode seems to really be about.

The way Rebecca responded by coercing her friends to air their trauma for the sake of a drama video was far far worse though. I hope people don't get pissed at anybody uncomfortable with that reviews sentiments because of her awful response though.

I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe.
