Okay, so, a while ago, I tried my hand at an experimental web-comic type thing that I had at my website and Deviant Art. It had an odd art style that was purposefully "not like a typical comic." I shared it here on a thread in webcomics about tropers' comics and it... got thoroughly eviscerated.

I felt so bad about it I took it down completely. After that, I got a complaint from some random person on DA over my taking it down and had to explain to them that normally, I can take criticism, it's just that this time, I realized how horrible everything looked, really felt bad about it and was contemplating doing the story in a different form... more of an illustrated prose form than a full out comic.

I wound up being stupid and talking about it off-topic in a thread in the On-Topic Conversations. I veered into talking about plans for a character that I though was relevant to where the discussion had veered to. Because of that and other reasons, the Mod locked the thread.

And now I'm thinking... Is this story, this idea, just plain cursed? Is the Universe or the Tropes-verse telling me "Nix the idea, don't do it at all?"

I want to play with my ideas, but I'm... kind of afraid now since every time I bring it up, bad things happen / I wind up feeling stupid.

Has anyone else had any idea that just seemed to be cursed?

In which I attempt to be a writer.

That's not "cursed." Not by any means.

From what I saw in that thread, you had only one or two people who didn't like what you were doing, maybe because they just didn't find the idea interesting or maybe because your execution needed work. It's not like you were being told that you were a dreadful waster of digital ink with no talent.

If anything, your issue is that you are not very good at explaining yourself and expect that some clumsy conversations you had with some people who didn't get what you were doing is the same as being given the black spot.

Now please, go out and work on this thing. If people tell you they have problems with it, don't give up—push yourself to improve.

I'll hide your name inside a word and paint your eyes with false perception.
