Zeus. Amaterasu. Thor. All mighty heroes or, in many cases, Gods of ages past. But in recent times, these once mighty beings have become little more than old stories and fables, with hardly any people left that believe they truly existed. And yet, exist they did, in millennia long past, when their belief was at it's height. And now, today, they exist again, though not as before. Something is causing these beings to manifest within the bodies of ordinary men and women; in others words, reincarnations. These reincarnations only posses a fraction of the power of the original beings, though that power is still something to behold. But as they begin to stir, the forces responsible for this revival stir as well. In the end, it will remain to be seen whether humanity's belief in the Gods will rise to heights only seen in ages past, or if it will continue to remain as it long has. Or if, perhaps, something else will occur...

Hey there! This is an RP that is Exactly What It Says on the Tin. For a reason not known to you at first, beings of myth, including Gods, demigods, heroes, etc, are all being reborn within ordinary humans beings. (Well, mostly human beings; more on that later.) As for how the reincarnation process works; all reincarnations start out as completely ordinary humans, though there may be a subconscious inkling of their past life from time to time. But at the beginning of the RP, the Myth sleeping inside awakens, if only somewhat. You still have all of your human memories, but the personality and memories of your Myth begin to 'graft' themselves onto your human self; whether you attempt to push back your mythical self, or instead let the inner myth overtake you completely, is up to you, though either approach you take is going to steadily happen over time, as will the 'grafting' of your inner myth.

In addition, mythological races and locations will begin to crop up as the myths continue to be restored, and rather quickly at that. As the RP begins, the first signs of people transforming into mythological creatures and beings will already be evident, and so will be the transformation of the city of New Olympus from a modern metropolis, into a place of myth. Much of the city's populace will be transformed into mythological creatures, with the difference from you lot being that these creature's minds are much more instinctive and/or primal, and so their transformations are much more instant and complete.

Going back to your own Inner Myths, let me make this clear: the host is dominant at first. The Inner Myth can still communicate with the host, as well as Inner Myths, but it cannot take direct action, aside from the odd spell or two. Again, you can either suppress the Inner Myth or the host gradually, but doing either will take time. Or you can just keep the relationship the same. Additionally, Inner Myths can communicate with one another, but only if they're aware of each other's presence.

It goes without saying that beings of myth had supernatural or, well, Godly abilities. Since your inner Myths have only just reawakened, and also due to the current lack of belief at the moment, your abilities are severely limited by comparison, though they're still on par with your average Superhero. (Which don't exist in this universe prior to now, but you get the idea.) For example, if your inner Myth is Zeus, you could throw lightning bolts out of your hands, or if it's Demeter, you would have control over plant life. Starting out, you would all be at the '3' mark on the Sliding Scale of Superpowers, but if the RP goes on long enough, your levels of power may increase over time.

In addition to all of this, mythological races and locations will begin to crop up as the myths continue to be restored, and rather quickly at that.

Finally, here's a Character Sheet.

  • Inner Mythological Being:
  • Human Name:
  • Human Gender:
  • Human Age:
  • Appearance:
  • Powers and/or Abilities:
  • Personality of Inner Myth:
  • Personality of Human Being
  • Background of Inner Mythological Being:
  • Background of Human Being:
  • Miscellaneous:

Earlier, I mentioned that reincarnations would mostly be human. I'm willing to let one or two players play as an animal instead, though most should still be human. Also, while Mythological beings are up for grabs, there are a few that are off limits; God, Jesus, and Satan. For starters, they still hold quite a lot of belief these days, but aside from that, we're not having any God Mode Sues. (And lastly, for the purposes of this RP, the Roman Pantheon is also off-limits. However, their original Greek Counterparts are still fully available, along with all other heroes and legends of Greek myth. If you really want to use a Roman God though, PM me; I'm sure we could work something out.) If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

EDIT: Also, if you're having trouble thinking of a Myth to use, there's the Godchecker, which contains essential information on dozens of deities from at least 26 different regions, if not more. It could come in handy. And lastly, Sign-ups are open indefinitely. If you haven't joined by the time the game's started, don't worry; you can join up at any time.

I'm interested! Though I have a question that will determine which god I pick, but I feel it bears asking:

Does the nationality of the human have an impact on which god is the reincarnation? Like, say, would the reincarnation of an Aztec god have to be from somewhere like the American southwest, Mexico, or the Latin American countries? If not, I call Quetzalcoatl... if it does have an impact I'd rather go for Athena.

I can still hail the Horde even though the company has shamed us. Strength and Honor even if Blizzard has neither.

So I have no idea what country this is set in. I skimmed over that and made her backstory kinda vague. Can edit it if needed.

  • Inner Mythological Being: Sun Wukong, The Monkey King
  • Human Monkey Name: Sun Setsuko
  • Human Monkey Gender: Female
  • Appearance: “You humans are so uptight. You need to be free every once in awhile!”
  • Powers and/or Abilities: In addition to increased strength/speed/durability, Setsuko can shapeshift and create clones of herself by plucking a hair from her body. Currently she can manage any human or monkey form, including mixes between the two (she can also shapeshift herself clothing, but cannot turn into clothing.). Her clones can also shapeshift, but they disperse in one hit. She possesses a red staff that she can extend and retract at will. She is also beginning to inherit Wukong's martial arts prowess.
  • Personality of Inner Myth: Though his journey with the monk has humbled him a bit, Sun Wukong is still every bit a prankster. He provides Setsuko with a stream of ideas, most of them bad, and attempts to coax her into going through with every one. His most common justification is 'it would be funny.' He isn't very sympathetic to humans, and ignores consequences, but when someone is in danger he will usually tell Setsuko to save them.
  • Personality of Human Being Monkey: Setsuko is very energetic, over eager, and doesn't quite understand human customs. She occasionally forgets to shapeshift herself clothing, is unashamed of her body - regardless of what form she's in – and loves hot springs, baths, and jacuzzis. She tries to be kind, and as a monkey holds no prejudices towards anyone. She's protective of those she is close to.
  • Background of Inner Mythological Being: Sun Wukong, The Monkey King, was a monkey born from a stone. He learned magic and martial arts from a Taoist sage because he was afraid of death, and after stealing some mystical artifacts he earned the respect of the Jade Emperor, the Ruler of Heaven. Until his pranks became too much, and the Emperor sent the heavenly army to fight Sun Wukong. The Monkey King did battle with (and WON against) most of Heaven that day. However, he was defeated and imprisoned under a mountain by the Buddha for his crimes and arrogance. Later, he would agree to accompany and protect a monk named Tripitaka on his Journey To The West. With the aid of a magic headband, the monk kept Sun Wukong in line, and the Monkey King became more tame, earning the title 'Buddha Victorious Against Disaster'.
  • Background of Human Being Monkey: A Japanese Macaque, commonly called Nihonzaru, Setsuko was an imported pet that was set free because of legality issues. Before the authorities could find the out-of-place primate, something awakened inside her, and she began to walk more upright. Filled with a sense of adventure and newfound intelligence, she left nature and decided to see what human civilization had to offer.

[up][up]That is a problem. Right, new rule; anyone can use Roman deities that aren't a counterpart of the Greek Gods. If they are a counterpart, then they can't be used. In other words, Hasame, you can use Terminus if you want to.

[up]Seems good. Accepted.smile Just remember to add in the Gender; I forgot to add that to the Character sheet.tongue (It's on there now, though.)

  • Inner Mythological Being: Quetzalcoatl
  • Human Name: Hector Morales
  • Human Gender: Male
  • Appearance: Hector is roughly 19 years of age, with a youthful, boyish face and long black hair that reaches to his ears. He has brown eyes and lightly tanned skin. His figure is somewhat chiseled from exercise, and he has a playful air to his demeanor that makes him seem friendly and outgoing.
  • Powers and/or Abilities: As the sky god, Quetzalcoatl's presence allows Hector to control the wind around him, whether it's causing a sudden gust of wind or causing a small whirlwind around him. Sprouting rainbow-feathered wings, he can even take flight for a short amount of time. Quetzalcoatl also caused Hector to have a spurt of intelligence as well as a touch of wisdom. When on edge, Hector's eyes glow with light, and when sufficiently roused, he can let out a burst of blinding light.
  • Personality of Inner Myth: Quetzalcoatl was often considered to be the most noble of the Aztec gods, and the only one who did not demand human sacrifice of his followers. Quetzalcoatl is wise, quiet, thoughtful, and caring of humanity, which comes at odds with both his serpentine visage and the brash outgoingness of his human host. He follows a code very similar to chivalry in that he feels he must protect others.
  • Personality of Human Being: Hector Morales is a brash young man with a fiery spirit. He tend to act without thinking, but means well. Hector is definitely an outgoing, social person, a bit of a flirt, and enjoys the attention of people. However, deep inside he feels that something is missing, that he may not be as popular with others as he hopes he is.
  • Background of Inner Mythological Being: The Feathered Serpent is known by many names— Kukulkan, Tepeu Q'uq'umatz... but he is most well known as Quetzalcoatl, the name given to him by the Aztecs. He was born to the creator gods Ometecuhtli and Omecihuatl as the first of four children. Quetzalcoatl himself presided over the West, as the god of light, wisdom, knowledge, the sky, mercy, and justice, as well as the inventor of books and the one who gave maize to man. When he was tricked by his brother and sworn enemy, Tezcatlipoca, into sleeping with his sister Quetzalpetlatl in a drunken stupor, he was so wrought with grief that he immolated himself. His heart became the morning star.
  • Background of Human Being: Hector was born in a downtrodden town, and Hector's parents had very little money. His father died when he was young. Once his mother got a good job in the city, they moved there, into a seedy part of the neighborhood. To make himself feel more welcome among his peers, Hector developed the outgoing persona he puts on to everyone. However, one evening he discovered a note left by one of his classmates, mocking him and how ridiculous he seemed. From that moment he started to doubt himself, and it only got worse when he started hearing a deep voice in his head, the voice of Quetzalcoatl. Was he going mad? Was he really as infallible as he hoped he was?
  • Miscellaneous: Hector is of Mexican descent, which is fitting considering he is the reincarnation of Quetzalcoatl. (I didn't know what else to put here...)

I can still hail the Horde even though the company has shamed us. Strength and Honor even if Blizzard has neither.

Inner Mythological Being: Raven

Human Name: Peter James Allen Chaus Saunders

Human Gender: Male

Appearance: http://goo.gl/BHQN6q (dress shirt replaced with T-shirt, and black belted denim pants with work boots. Subject is short, but not extremely / dwarf short.)

Powers and/or Abilities: As a person with a God inside him, Peter is faster, stonger, and more durable than the average person, but as a tradeoff, is a lot lighter than he looks. As a bird deity, Raven possesses the power of flight. As his mortal host…thing, Peter possesses this ability as well. He is capable of levitation, but it is very limited, and cannot go more than 10 feet off the ground. Even going that far requires much effort. Peter is perfectly capable of seeing in all kinds of light and the lacking thereof, and cannot be flash blinded. He cannot see through things though, so he is capable of getting ambushed in, say, a fog. He is also capable of controlling light, summoning it up, dimming it down, and, via concentration, focusing it into (frickin) laser ( beam)s. Lastly, Peter is capable of shapeshifting, though this requires effort and a willingness to undergo immense pain. The ensuing transformation is always either a small raven or some kind of human being. The human form always has his raven dark hair and glowing black eyes, while the raven is indistinguishable from normal ravens.

Personality of Inner Myth: Tricky, crafty, imaginative, and wise, Raven is a lovable rouge. He understands what he wants, and knows he can improvise his way into getting it. He does not feel the need to rush things to get what he wants, knowing that opportunity can and will present itself. He is more than perfectly fine with screwing people over, and supplies a wide variety of ways Peter can get the better of those around him via ruthless means. He enjoys befriending other tricksters, and hates it when others get the drop on him. But make no mistake; Raven is not evil, merely moral grey. He is loyal to those he befriends, and dislikes betrayal, murder, the sexual sin, ect. He can and does help those who need it, and enjoys exacting punishment on those who abuse those around them. The fact that he then advocates doing what they just did is an irony that is completely lost on him.

Personality of Human Being: Nervous, techy, shy, and fastidious, Peter is a high school wallflower. He gets scared easily, prefers running to fighting, and tend to overthink things. He is perfectly pleasant, but he tends to lack a spine. But when the cards are down, and his back is against the wall, he is perfectly capable of being brave and dangerous. This scares him, how he can be a dangerous creature when he needs to be. He is scared of the ravens voice becoming his own, of losing what makes him him. And he is scared of his power, and how much he loves using it, and how he loves how it sets him apart from most. All quite sensible fears.

Background of Inner Mythological Being: Raven is an old deity. His past is largely mysterious to most, but there are some specifics that are known. He helped the first humans to avoid starvation. His brother consistently tricks him, as does Coyote. He was around when creation began. And when a greedy chieftain stole the light from the world at large, it was Raven, and Raven alone, who saved all by transforming himself into a young boy, and tricking the chieftain into handing him the light. He released the light onto the world, and all was good.

Background of Human Being: Peter lived a normal life. A safe life. He was scared, always scared, of deviating from what he perceived as normal, of standing out and being orchestrated. He lived this way for most of his life, up until sophomore year. His lack of height set him apart from his peers, shattering all of his attempts at conformity. It was at this time he started to hear the Ravens voice.

Miscellaneous: Peter wears black leather gloves a lot, and has a fascination with hats. No one really understands why, Raven included. Likewise, Raven irrationally hates frogs and Peter doesn’t know why. He also hates Poe, but that’s more understandable. ‘Say Nevermore’, ‘fuck you’, and all that.

[up]True, but the game's going to take place in America, where at least some of those faiths probably aren't quite as strong. I also don't imagine as many potential cases of God-Mode Sue with those faiths. I'll allow them for now, though if someone doesn't think they should be in, I'm willing to listen.

Reserving Susanoo

SvenOrzoKarkoff Since: Apr, 2013
#22: Jul 2nd 2014 at 4:07:18 AM

Inner Mythological Being: Susanoo, Shinto god of the Sea and Storms.

Human Name: Victor Shin

Human Gender: Male

Human Age: 18

Appearance: Victor is a 178cm (or 5'10 for those who use Imperial) male who possesses a lean build and a decent amount of muscle. He has short black hair and dark brown eyes . His most common outfit is a grey shirt, dark green cargo pants, a tan canvas jacket and black combat boots. He carries a metal hiking stick with him at all times. Susanoo appears within his mind as a 23 year old man wearing a navy blue suit and black trench coat.

Powers and Abilities: In addition to augmented strength, speed, stamina, durability and reflexes, Victor is able to control water, summon and control rainstorms, and can fly by generating small hurricanes under his feet.

Victor is also able to transform inanimate objects, although the transformed object has to be of a similar material to the original object. In fact, his hiking stick is actually Susanoo's sword Totsuka-no-Tsurugi. Victor also possesses the legendary Kusanagi-no-Tsurugi, but cannot use it. Instead, Susanoo keeps it within the mindscape, intent on returning the sword to his sister Amaterasu once again.

Some other things that Victor had inherited from Susanoo are his skills as a fighter and swordsman, an inhuman alcohol tolerance, and a shout that could shake the tiles off a house.

Personality of Inner Myth: Having matured over the course of centuries, Susanoo is more levelheaded than the myths depict. However, his independent nature, reckless streak and volcanic temper still remain, albeit on a more manageable scale. He may seem stern and uncaring at times, but also shows a generous and compassionate side as well. Susanoo also cares deeply for his family (both original and current) and friends, and wishes to meet up with Amaterasu and her reincarnation.

Personality of Human Being: Once a reckless and hot-tempered boy, Victor learned how to rein in his anger and grew up to be a quiet, calm and easygoing young man with a solid sense of right and wrong. He is also very open-minded and accepting of others, judging individuals by their character and actions, rather than their race or personal preferences. Like his previous incarnation Victor does not prefer to be the one in power, feeling that he is not suited for such responsibility. He has also been told by others that he exudes a calming aura, like the gentle rocking of a ship.

Background of Inner Mythological Being: The God of the Sea and Storms, Susanoo was banished from heaven after his reckless actions terrified his sister Amaterasu to the extent that she locked herself (and thus, the sun) within in a cave and refused to come out. He descended to the province of Izumo, where he met an elderly couple who told him that seven of their eight daughters had been devoured by the eight-headed serpent Yamata no Orochi and was preparing to consume Kushinada, their eighth daughter. Susanoo hid Kushinada by turning her into a fine-tooth comb, tricked Orochi into a drunken slumber, and killed the serpent. From Orochi's corpse he found Kusanagi, which he presented to Amaterasu as a reconciliation gift. Susanoo then settled down in Izumo and married Kushinada.

Background of Human Being: Half Chinese and half Japanese, Victor spent most of his childhood in the port city of Hong Kong, before moving to America when he was 12. Victor led an ordinary life up till his 18th birthday when he was held at knifepoint by a mugger. Without thinking, Victor suddenly kicked the knife out of the surprised mugger's hands, before knocking him out with an elbow strike. Wondering just how the hell did he manage to pull that off without any training, Victor swore he heard a deep voice in his head introduce itself as Susanoo.

Miscellaneous:

-Victor has jokingly nicknamed his transforming power "Alchemy", due to its similarity with Edward Elric's ability.

-Victor has a preference for seafood, and his favorite drink is Mocha. Susanoo prefers Sake

-Totsuka-no-Tsurugi (Ten-Span Sword) is shaped like a Chinese Jian rather than a Katana. Victor has lost count of how many people are surprised by that fact. Susanoo just thinks that they're idiots, and Katanas aren't that great anyways.

Inner Mythological Being: Terminus

Human Name: Griffin Tawrny (Tornie)

Human Gender: Male

Human Age: 23

Appearance: 6"2", Mixed between African American and Caucasian, 210 pounds. Has a small scruff of a beard and no hair. Wears a plain white t-shirt and blue jeans with a gray hoodie wrapped around his waist. Dark brown eyes. Naturally strong look and a menacing stare. Has worn the same blue and white running shoes for 2 years now, so they're about to come apart. Griffin envisions Terminus as a marble white man with no lower half, technically standing on his fists. Curly black hair and with no shirt.

Powers and/or Abilities: Can make boundaries on various surface by sliding his hands around the desired area. Eli can make the boundaries hold out whatever he pleases, but when he places a border he cannot change the rules/specifications for them. Boundaries can in fact be overloaded at the moment (Example: Makes a "Wall" excluding rats, but there are hundreds of rats pounding against it, they'll start to break in.). He can also touch objects and place them in a circle/square/etc. to mark boundaries.

Personality of Inner Myth: Terminus is a strict figure, naturally. He is highly outspoken on what he deems to be wrong and doesn't allow his host to act out of his image. Griffin and Terminus are a near perfect match. He knows only the civil, and abides only by what is law. Stubborn, commanding, and not below screaming in someone's face to tell them what they've just done wrong, Terminus is a jerk. But not to people who listen to reason. Being extremely smart and a quick thinker really help, but due to his heavy bias including rules, if there is a situation that can only be solved by breaking what he holds dear, it might be struggle. Would be referred to as a "Square".

Personality of Human Being: Griffin is a thoughtful, but menacing, brick. He's tough, but rarely uses his obvious strength to his advantage. Has little care for anyone but himself, though he knows what's right and wrong, and if it doesn't harm him personally, he always chooses right. High self-control, very hard to anger (And if you did make him mad he'd forget it fairly quickly). He's great in a pinch/an incredibly quick thinker when he needs to be, though if called out, he'll trip on his words for awhile. Prone to being overly sarcastic.

Background of Inner Mythological Being: Not much is known about the big block of stone. People needed their stuff protected: Cities, houses, etc. And he was there, barking "Get away!" at any strangers in front of him.

Background of Human Being: Griffin just doesn't care. About anything, really. Through all his life, he was just there. One of those extras in a movie where, you know that they have someone to talk to, but you don't really care that they do. Or say, one of the faceless people getting blown up in an action film. Though under his slightly frowning face, was a person who just wanted something to look forward to. Though the whole caring for nothing part kinda hurts that ambition of an ambition. He graduated, average grades, then he went to college, average also. Being out, he had no idea what to do with his life, until the day he suddenly found purpose. He was to be an upholder of the law. He just isn't sure if he'll pass the mental stability part of the tests..

Miscellaneous: May be coming soon but most likely not.
