Quite. If this film does wind up being history-defining, it will be because the movie exists rather than the quality of its actual content.

Though the film itself is better than expected. I say that about all their movies, but this one had a lot more depth than just "Two stoners fuck around and maybe kill a dictator" (which is what the trailers made it look like).

The real question is this:

Do you ever feel like a plastic bag, drifting through the wind, wanting to start again?

Do you ever feel, feel so paper thin, like a house of cards, one blow from caving in?

@Silently Honest: Be glad that it's not pro-racist propaganda like the most important film of the 1910's was.

Aw, those two lines ([up][up] and [up][up][up]) were the perfect ones to almost close this topic on...

It would be kind of neat if the movie won a Razzie and a guy in a Kim costume came over to receive the award.

And then they also give him a Worst Ruler honorary award.

After watching on the PSN network last week, I have to admit that I'm not very impressed by it. While it was certainly funny in some parts, such as the scene where Eminem came out as gay on Skylark's show or when the poison began to kill the guard during the presentation and eventually leading to everyone getting splattered in blood, it wasn't terribly intelligent. Just a lot of crude humor and highly simplified politics, which is kinda weird since the movie itself points out that the North Korean regime's collapse won't be so easy since many will refuse to believe Skylark's slander.

Also, my GF happens to be half Korean and stated that only a handful of the spoken Korean lines were accurate. The rest were basically Engrish, especially that song the little girl sang in the beginning of the movie; only the first part with her singing praise to Kim Jung Un was accurate, while the rest of the anti-American stuff was either gibberish or totally different. Same with the lines that KJU himself or Sook says in Korean.

[up] Whoa. If it's not a personal question, was your girlfriend offended by the movie?

Speaking of the movie, I saw it on Netflix just a while ago.

Holy cow, did I laugh out loud a lot. [lol]

And that third act…it's something that makes me feel proud to be an American. It also manages to be both stupid hilarious and awesome [awesome] .

I absolutely love the brave Korean soldier kid who was all, "He's not a god! He has a butthole!" and then helped them escape.

EDIT: Also, I'm okay with the fact that they hired a little Korean girl to sing gibberish rather than actually giving a child a long tirade of lines like "Let them drown in piss and shit" and "May their women be raped by wild animals while the children are forced to watch." That seems like a deliberate choice to not be awful people.

[up] Especially if the stuff prior to that is actually accurate.

The film opens in cinemas here next month.

At least, that's the plan this week.

Cue death threats to the cinema chains again. Or maybe, just maybe, the folks from Best Korea who did the first hacks and death threats have chilled out a bit since then?

Just saw it last night, dumb but better than expected. The moral of the story is quite clear:

Soviet tanks are awesome.

Just watched it on netflix. It's made of awesome.

As a big Katy Perry fan who's straight (enough) I laughed my ass off at that scene.

Eh, not surprised. Although she barely mentioned anything concrete from the film.

I actually enjoy that in the end it plays Reality Ensues straight, with the civil war and whatnot (because considering how apparently North Korea's military politics are almost Game of Thrones level you KNOW that's what would happen).

[up]If anything, I'm kinda Surprised Sook was still alive after all the chaos. She did help assassinate the Dear Leader and all, so I can't help but imagine that a bunch of the regime loyalists are going to want her dead more than anyone else.

Given that she was supposed to be Kim's Chief video media propagandist and had that whole shootout against the guards on the way out, that's doubtful. Besides, I'm pretty sure the the generals watching the interview between Skylark and Kim would've noticed that the recording crew was acting weird after some point and concluded that Sook had assisted somehow.
