Friday stream days would be basically the only day I'd have time to do that. Though if we're going to do ranked mode I should get back into S+ first.

Speaking of which, today in ranked the lag must've been particularly bad, because I had basically all the bullshit lag issues. Everything from the tower not moving when you get on it to an enemy surviving three seconds of sustained N-Zap fire before killing me and then exploding three seconds after that. Not to mention all the times I saw the other team somehow swimming through my team's ink.

I would like to join this team if only to rise in terms of ranks (at least from a B- to a B). Just need to know the exact requirements for it though. My only issue right now is that my wi-fi has gone down the crapper for the TV (this has never happened before in Splatoon).

Well now, I just learned something new. The icon indicating a super jumping squid won't change its rate even if the user has quick super jump. In the video, the first player has no QJ while the second user does. Basically, the QJ user can throw off unsuspecting enemy players by arriving sooner than the icon says they should.

[up][up]I didn't even realize that the icon indicated how long the jump would take, so it wouldn't work on me. tongue

Also, what I've always wanted to do in a squad battle is get a squad of four squids all armed with Splash-o-matics and then everyone activates bomb rush all at the same time. It would be hilarious.

I remember once me and a teammate both activated bomb rushes in the last 20 or so seconds of splat zone to guarantee that we didn't lose control of the zone. Needless to say, the other team couldn't even get near it.

[up]Oh please let us do that! But, instead of doing it at the same time, everyone follows each other up from the last rush. That way, we create 30 seconds of continuous carpet bombing.evil grin

...OR instead of all of us using suction bomb rush, we each use one of each bomb rush (suction, burst, splat, and seeker) at the same time.

That would be a completely valid strategy to close out a splat zone. The only problem would be managing to keep everybody alive long enough to get all four specials active at one time and then figuring out how to signal each other when to hit it.

You could even optimize for it with lots of "Special Savor" gear.

Someone alternates "C'mon" and "Booyah" when the clock gets somewhere around 45 seconds left in the round for the signal?

The simplest of way I can think of is to have a preset times to use the special for everyone before the match. That is;

  • Player 1 goes at 0:45 remaining
  • Player 2 goes at 0:35 remaining
  • Player 3 goes at 0:25 remaining
  • Player 4 goes at 0:15 remaining

That way, there is no need to do complex signaling. All one needs to do is pay attention to the clock and/or the "Player activated special" icon at the right side of the screen.

Anyway, all this talk about using the special has me thinking of getting gear with special duration up.

It's all fun and games until the enemy team plans a Bubbler shutout.

[up]Puh-lease! Bubbles only last like 5 seconds. If the enemy team plans that, they better make the bubble count or have extra bubbles on standby.

If one team can organize a four squid attack of Bomb Rushes, then another can plan a multiple Bubbler push as well. Seeing how that thing can be passed between teammates, you could potentially have the equivalent of 4 squids on ubercharge for well over 20 seconds; more than enough time to chase down a Bomb Rush wielding team and take their special bar away.

Shhh, I know this would ridiculously hard to pull off. Hypotheticals!

I guess the question to a bubble counter is this; does the team act as a mine sweeper or go after the bomb rusher? If it's the former, then that team will need probably two players with bubbles at the ready and have enough coordination to not mistime a bubble. Unfortunately, if that team is up against four bomb rush users, then they can't hope to sweep all the bombs. The last two bomb users won't have to worry about a pesky bubble ruining their bombs. If they do the latter, then they better be close and act quick. The longer it takes the bubbled player to kill the bomb user, the more territory they will inevitably lose.

With 4 people with Bomb Rush on the ready, the smartest idea wouldn't necessarily be going for whoever has Bomb Rush activated at the moment, but go for their pals while shielded and undo their special meters. Way better to deal with a carpet bombed area around the 30 second mark than around the 10 second mark; plus a lot of weapons with Bubbler have great coverage, so retaking whatever territory has been stolen probably wouldn't be too problematic

I think that, while a Quad-Synchro-Bubbler team could act as a fairly strong counter to the proposed Bomb Rush strategy, it's unlikely any given squad actually will run it at this point.

I sure said that!

Yeah, nobody would take the time to set that up unless carpet bomb teams were popular enough that you need a counter strategy for it.

Although the real issue is making sure that everybody has their specials at the end. If anybody gets splatted in the time leading up to it, it might cause issues in setting the thing up.
