Read the book, not seen the film.

Hazel's a brilliant character in the book because you get her internal narrative. She is very passive; but it's her viewpoint and consideration of the world which is the interesting and original side of the character.

Sorry for the mega-necro but I've been reading the book and have a question. Admittedly, I don't know much about cancer but is it possible in real life for cancer to recur as quickly and severely as Gus's does? That all seemed rather sudden to me.
