Huh. According to the Amazon page, I've already ordered the book, but clicking on that actually brings me to my order for the prior book.

Well I got my copy because I'm an author at the company and know the editor so... :)

Finally finished the new book. It was entertaining, but possibly my least favorite so far. It's more of a romance/coming of age drama than an adventure, and Mirabelle is a bit too widgety of a character for me (Catgirl! Made of glass! Healing powers! Walks through mirrors!). Still, it was entertaining, and I appreciated the cameos from prior books.

Side note, I have no idea what the author's online presence is anymore. He stopped updating his blog in 2020, around the time he has publisher issues. He stopped posting on Twitter last November, moving his Funny Stories to Tumblr, maybe as a result of the Musk Twitter fiasco... I really want to ask if Wonderland's devices resembling the Candy Chainsaw / Bad Penny early theme was an intentional reference.

Also finished the latest book and.... please, someone! Find Cassie a girlfriend!

An interesting look at Marcia from a different perspective. And I really want more Little Witch.

The combination of how she demonstrates how dangerous superheroing can be (missing limbs) and how ridiculous it can be (cheap Halloween costume and artifact hoarding) is indeed intriguing. In some ways, she is the flip side of Barbara. Constantly drawing in new sources of power, while outwardly being somewhat tacky.

[up] Plus a crippling donut addiction. Though it does imply also that her magic is Cast from Calories

And initial entry posted for Please Don't Tell My Parents I'm a Giant Monster, but I don't have time at the moment to do all of the crosswicking. Will try to get to it tonight.

Have any of you read You Can Be a Cyborg When You're Older?

It's basically Please Dont Tell My Parents crossed with Cyberpunk 2077.

[up] Yes I have, I did enjoy it and would have been happy if there had been more.

Also some interesting ideas such as cybernetics and body-modification meeting Otherkin and the protagonist's lack of prosthetics essentially being a form of body dysmorphia.

Capybaras were a thing I didn't know existed until they showed up in that book.

Just noting that Please Don't Tell My Parents I Saved the World Again is coming out on April 23rd, 2024. I'm currently doing a reread of the series in anticipation of that.

And... apparently I wasn't as clever about pointing out Wonderland in Please Don't Tell My Parents I'm a Giant Monster and her tie to the soda tank/candy chainsaw that Penny wields, because The Audit specifically brings her up during Please Don't Tell My Parents I Blew Up the Moon in her discussion with Brian Akk about parallels to Bad Penny's power...

Hmm... I can't put my finger on it, but making my way through this one is feeling like a bit more of a chore than prior books. I find myself noting all of the cameos as much as I am the plot, which basically has Avery still trying to find her path to heroism despite a dark power. Side note, I'm listening to Please Don't Tell My Parents I've Got Henchmen in parallel and it's interesting to have Little Witch mentioned in the background, as well as that likely being Schleimy selling the forbidden book (which kind of matches her stated belief in this book that magic gets hidden away too often rather than shared), and the unofortunate velociraptor handler being behind yet another case of his livestock cutting loose and slicing him and other shoppers up.

[up] I wouldn't say it was a chore, mostly because I do enjoy the characters and setting but it was a little unfocused in terms of plot.

Still enjoyable though.

(And yes Avery, you are in love with Chris and Sue. You just process it differently.)
