Sounds perfectly fine to me.
I've got new mythological machinery, and very handsome supernatural scenery. Goodfae: a mafia web serialThat's an awfully long way from squick as far as I can tell, mate.
You go for it!
Earth Needs GentlemenBasically, you've taken every single possible precaution to keep this from becoming squicky. Go for it.
Does not sound squicky to me, either.
Awesome!!! I wasn't sure if i'd covered my bases or not!!! THAAAAANK YOOOOOOU!!!
It sounds more sad and unintentionally cruel than gross or weird.
I have a character who does something extremely similar, but their story is a lot less happy and stable. Plus, some versions of them are less than sympathetic, shall we say...
I'll hide your name inside a word and paint your eyes with false perception. There is a lot of buried angst. He goes through cycles of depression every century or so.
I don't know the vlog you're talking about, but most of the complaints I've seen about the relationship in Twilight are because Edward acts very similarly to a stalker/abusive boyfriend, and that this is presented as uncritically good.
If the 'mayfly' comes across as really naive/inexperienced next to the immortal, then the immortal could be seen as manipulating his love interest. If you either avoid that or engage with it within the text, then you shouldn't have a problem.
Violence is the last refuge of the incompetent.
Okay, so in one of the stories i'm working on, there is a magic based immortal character who has been around for a few thousand years. He doesn't withdraw from society (most of the time) and has the ability to de age himself as a way to stave off boredom. When he does this, he is mentally that age, with that level of maturity and cognitive function. Over the centuries he's fallen in love and married several times, and each time he and his lover are (roughly) the same physical age.
So the question: Is this squicky? I personally don't think so, but i've read and heard many things (mainly stemming from complaints about twilight, particularly one of john green's vlogs) that an immortal/human pairing is squicky and creepy. I would very much like to avoid that. Any tips on how to do that?
p.s. He is also sometimes able to erase his own memory (temporarily, for a few decades) so he can experience things with fresh eyes and enjoy them.
Please ask me for any clarification you need. In trying to keep my plots secret I can end up leaving out vital info.
