I think I like this one a little bit more. Can someone translate the new sections?

Even though I cannot understand 98% of it, it feels MORE RIGHT hearing this in Spanish! :)

And I just noticed the demon's pupils ARE RED SKULLS! .... I LOVE THE DESIGN OF THIS MOVIE!!

I wonder if any of the English cast will do the Spanish dub.

Xibalba is a awesome villain.

I actually hope that Pixar continues making their Day of the Dead movie so I can see more skeletons in animated films in a better light. Especially since Jack Skellington really helped that path.

If there is a sequel to this, I hope it takes place in Egypt. "Book of Death" an' all that.

[up] Considering the nature of the Book of Life, I can easily see this becoming a franchise where each film is a stand-alone story connected by the mythology and possibly a few characters.

If it's a commercial success, do you think it'll inspire more animated films with a unique visual style as opposed to copying the Disney/Pixar/Dreamworks style? Also, am I the only one who thinks that rotating skull maze looks badass?

I hope so! Animation is supposed to be used for things you DON'T see in real life!

Second time around, I can really make out the El Tigre influence on the artwork.

I saw someone point out that between Big Hero 6, this movie, and Dreamworks' Home, this is a good year for POC representation in animation.

I think Home has been moved to 2015, but the point still stands.

The maze part kind of reminded me of Cat Returns and Labyrinth but that doesn't stop it from looking awesome. waii

One less movie it has to compete against come Oscar season. Not that Home sounds like Oscar material, anyway...

I'm already in love with this movie and its characters. The design looks amazing and very beautiful to look at. Xibalba is my favorite so far. He reminds me of both Jafar and Hades.

I'm sold. I can't wait for this.

This move looks AMAZING! I'm really surprised the Sugar Skull style translates so well into cgi. With this, Lego movie, Boxtrolls, How To Train Your Dragon 2... 2014 is looking to be a good, good year for animation.

Despite my screen-name, ranting to you about One Piece is not my top priority.

I've been thinking the same thing - the titular "Book of Life" feels ready made as a franchise enabler where they could probably get away with keeping the female narrator around as a permanent character who opens each movie by introducing the next story from the book as it begins and not worry about the necessity of any other characters from previous movies unless they really wanted to and/or it fit into the new story somehow.

The only other things they'd really need to keep would be the world they introduce, the art style, and some kind of overarching theme to tie all the stories together.

That looked Incredible! And it looked like fun! Even though I wasn't a huge fan of El Tigre, this is definitely something I gotta see! At least once!grin

As long as Del Toro can successfully use his clout to keep the executives' filthy mitts off the project, I'm sure it'll be wonderful.

Del Toro has a reputation for tapping into foreign markets like almost nobody else. His name is probably the only reason yhis project made it to theaters.

It certainly helped Pacific Rim out, that much is for sure.

Getting back on track, I think La Muerte is already the most popular character. All of the fan art I've seen so far is of her.
