If there's a bright side, I suppose it means there's one less half-hour of TV I need to catch up on each week.

...

sad

So I just watched the birthday episode online and I gotta say I hope Henry gets a new GF before the last episode even if it's not Eliza. Her attitude at the concert was terrible,Henry was obviously enjoying himself and it was his birthday, she should have indulged him a little and been gracious about it.Henry would have done that had it been her birthday, beyond that it was just a concert not cock fight.

I think that's the point. Henry might act the same way if he was not the one having fun. Its a little way for the show to point that two people who are so very similar might not be a good match.

I loved the bit about Freddy's friends all having cat names in that ep.

I get a sense that she's very much supposed to be a mirror of what Henry was at the beginning of the series, before Eliza started to have an influence on his life.

[up]Exactly. And she doesn't have her 'Eliza.' Plus, while its moderate, she doesn't seem to like Eliza (course Eliza doesn't like her either).

Although I do love the size jokes. "Polly Pocket." "Jolly Ginger Giantess."

I love Gillan's breathless voice for comedy in this show. There's a bit when Julia and Henry first start dating and she says "Paging Dr. Peen." like a bored receptionist-Henry corrects her that Julia works with children and she says in the same voice "Paging Dr. Baby-Peen, so sorry."

I do like the point they've overall made about them being too similar and how it's outright addressed in the newest episode that Henry is just playing it safe and doesn't actually love her. Also, I do like how it's well handled in this that both sides have their virtues and vices as opposed to Eliza just being the one who is in the wrong. She did call him well on a couple of things and his own issues are what basically resulted in the current issues. Also, I REALLY don't like that one guy Eliza was/is with just because he seems like a massive tool.

To be fair to Freddy, he's not a bad guy. He's not mean to Eliza, or overly possessive of her.

He's a little cocky, rather self-absorbed, but he genuinely likes Eliza.

Its the same thing. Freddy is too similar to who Eliza used to be before Henry-not a malicious guy, but not a guy you want to spend a real relationship with. Kind of a tool, like plenty of handsome young professionals. I like that they wrote him that way instead of just making him a jerk so Henry is the clear obvious better choice, Wedding Crashers style.

Hmm... you've an excellent point there and nothing I can really debate. The show definitely did a great job with that on both sides of the equation.

[up] It really did, too bad bad it's already cancelled...

Exactly. It wasn't some trashy guilty-pleasure show, it was smart, fairly self aware, and most of all funny.

The latest in a long line of ABC cancellations that make no sense. Happy Endings, Suburgatory, and more.

At least there'll be three more episodes.

And at least they're letting us see the final episodes rather than banishing them to the the dustbin of unseen TV episodes. Even if it's just online rather than keeping them on the regular schedule.

Anyone else pleasantly surprised by Gillan's gut-wrenching karaoke? Also her confrontation with Henry before hand was really well done IMO.

Yeah, this show was cancelled too soon.

I just watched episode 10. I'm not the kind of person to say this but, gah. The feels.

And it managed to be funny too-Bryn and Charmonique need to interact again. And the Kindercare supporting cast continues to be funny in their small moments.

Damn you, ABC. Damn you to Hell!

I'm currently watching through Episode 9, and I'm starting to feel hopeful that, even though the show is being cut off far too soon, at least I'm getting the impression that it'll leave on a note that feels somewhat satisfactory.
