How goes it tropers? Firstly, I'm brand new here, so apologies if this thread is in the wrong place and needs to be in New Media or wherever. I've been pre-writing this... script thing for a while now. To cut a long story mercifully short, it's essentially a metaphorical horror movie about the internet, drug abuse and religion. My problem now is creating a compelling mythos for the group of characters to navigate, a background world that takes it's inspiration more from the likes of Heavy Metal magazine, anime, contemporary low-brow art, creepypasta/The Fear Mythos etc. In honor of the legendary working title for Return of the Jedi ('Blue Harvest: Horror Beyond Imagination') I've called it the Black Harvest mythos. So where should I begin? Does this idea interest you? Would you like to contribute a character or scenario? I'm really happy to hear any ideas or suggestions people might have, I think between us we could come up with something really cool and a bit different.

Well dood, first of all welcome to the forum, and here's hoping you enjoy your time here! And secondly, that's a long list of potential references there and I'm really curious about how you're thinking of putting them all in. I'd be a little careful that you don't sandwich yourself in between them all; inspirations can become prisons when you suddenly become a little constrained in exactly what you can stick into your narrative. While coming up with your own unique-flavored mythos can be time-consuming, it brings with it a lot of creative freedom. I guess that it's up to you which end of that spectrum would suit best!

Thanks Deebro ;p You read my mind about getting stuck between genres. Maybe I should give an example of the kind of narrative compromises I've made and which influences they include at once.

One character's skin begins to melt and peel away, due to a bio-weaponised alien gas of unknown origins. His hair is bleached white, his nose falls off and he becomes thin to the point of being skeletal. The maddening pain of his transformation drives him to become a psychopathic anti-hero, dispensing his warped justice on the sharp edge of a machete blade.

This is kind of my version of the mascot for Iron Maiden combined with the likes of Jeff the Killer and David Cronenberg-esque body horror. My wanting to create a mythos for this character and co to live in would give them something to do and give the story a heading so if anybody can and/or wants to throw some ideas around with me I'd be thrilled [lol]

think of it as the very darkest side of 'urban fantasy', but also as a kind of "Star Wars" to the creepypasta mythos' "Alien" wink
