According to the article, critics within the party are becoming more outspoken. The LDP is not stable right now.
Disgusted, but not surprisedKoike's victory in the Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly also makes him look shaky, to the point that she might genuinely have a shot at the PM seat. There's blood in the water. Although he could survive this, if he revamps his cabinet and curries favour with his own party. It isn't looking good for him though.

Residents of Sakata in Yamagata are practicing drills on how to take cover from an ICBM attack.
This of course has anti-nuke activists in Japan worried... 'cause of being reminded of 1945.
It really shouldn't. Because Japan did not see those nukes coming, either time. Even after the first one the higher up believed that America couldn't possibly have another ready to do. They were obviously wrong.
That being said, I don't blame them for getting nervous, but the analogy is not exact.
The UN Security Council unanimously voted in favor of new sanctions on North Korea. Apparently the Kim regime's recent "antics" are really annoying Beijing, because I would have expected them to simply abstain from the vote given recent friction with the USA.

I was expecting a long and shitty light novel series. Which then somehow becomes popular and gets a long and shitty shonen anime series.

It's now official. Wedding is due by next year. Some lawmakers are suggesting that families who were stripped of royalty status by the Allies should be reinstated.
The article mentions past female rulers. Were they actual queens/empresses or merely regents for young princes who became emperors/kings, or are there cases of both?

A bit of both. The old Japanese system (before the Meiji Restoration) did allow for female rulers, it was just very rare.
Then of course there is the ancient case of Queen Himiko, but this predates any real imperial system or a concept of a Japanese nation outside of the Yamato.
