"Countries you think about so little, but I don't".
Somehow I'm not surprised. When I watched that segment I figured it had a chance of turning into something like the back and forth between Jon Oliver and Jack Warner(?) from FIFA. These guys should know better than to get into a contest of words with a comedian but their egos just won't let them walk away.
| Wandering, but not lost. | If people bring so much courage to this world...◊ |Have you noticed how it's always the wannabe dictators who pick a fight?
It's almost like dictatorships don't work because the people who want that kind of power are thin-skinned, cowardly authoritarians with a need to wield power over others. And probably also have sausage fingers.
Still not embarrassing enough to stan billionaires or tech companies. It's always fun to see the silly things that his writing staff can come up with.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"And apparently the number of Donald Trumps collected Lawsuits are higher than the majority of episodes of Courtroom Procedural TV Shows put together.
"You can reply to this Message!"Just how much money HBO is willing to throw at this show? O.o It is like they gave it a Game of Thrones budget but, since there is no special effects or whatever, John just find a new extravagant way to spend all of it each week. It is kinda crazy.
I would laugh if he started breaking into Ace Attorney cases. The Trump U segment was gold, shame it's not on You Tube.
The Crystal Caverns A bird's gotta sing. It's not every day you can give away 15 million dollars on a Sunday comedy show. Pretty ballsy, John.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Did they sell the Drumph hats at cost? If HBO is getting money off the show they might be letting the show keep it and use it for stunts like this, what happened to all the money John got for his Church? I think he gave it away but I can't remember.
Oh and another one upping of Oprah, nobody has to pay taxes to get their medical debt written off, unlike getting a car from Oprah.
“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranJon Oliver, you beautiful man. That was some of the greatest television I've seen in ages.

Well, I suppose 15 Million given to a Non-Profit must be a hell of a Tax boon. Maybe they sold HBO on that.
"You can reply to this Message!"They didn't buy the debt at cost. It gets cheaper every time a new company buys it
Well, they paid 60k for it. Now I wonder if the 60k or the 15m are counted toward tax write offs.
"You can reply to this Message!"The non-profit pays no taxes regardless, so the point is moot. The issue is whether consumers, relieved of that debt, would incur a tax liability, because debt forgiveness is considered a form of taxable income. Evidently, the firm John Oliver chose has some ability to make that problem go away.
HBO would probably be able to write off the $60K they spent to acquire the debts as a charitable donation, but that's pocket change for them.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"YOU GET YOUR LIFE BACK! AND YOU GET YOUR LIFE BACK! NINE THOUSAND PEOPLE WITH DEBT IT'S TECHNICALLY ILLEGAL TO COLLECT ON BUT COMPANIES STILL TRY ANYWAY GET THEIR LIVES BACK!
Spending money on things no other television show would is kind of their thing at this point. They're just throwing HBO's money around to go viral and make a difference.
If they're taking money from fans, they're either passing it right along to charity or just paying cost.

Fresh-eyed movie blogAn average episode of the show is probably dirt cheap as well, especially by HBO standards. You have, what, a few set, some of which they could possibly borrow from other shows if they need to, one guy on camera most of the time, a studio audience that probably pays to be there, and the behind the scenes staff. Game of Thrones can cost millions an episode. 60K is a drop in the bucket for HBO. Especially considering the phenomenal good press they'll get out of this.

Not Three Laws compliant.Well, more like "Where is our attention?" if you ask me. Wonder if the mention simply got cut for time or was simply in the credits and they expected an on the air name drop or maybe it was cut for time?

"You can reply to this Message!"I've seen allegations that the outfit was snubbed because the show didn't want to connect themselves to a group associated with Occupy.

I am sure that by now John has a world map at the wall, with the countries whose governments he has pissed off marked in red.
