Ahem ... the wiki's name is "TV Tropes" as-is and the Home Page talks about "This wiki is a catalog of the tricks of the trade for writing fiction."
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanIt is true that once, in the not-so-distant past of the site, our full name was Television Tropes & Idioms. You are correct in why it was changed. Due to a lot of overuse as well as heavy misuse of said idioms (mostly of the Stock Phrase variety) in casual conversation (both on the wiki and the fora), we've moved away from that.
The reason the old title still shows up in searches is that it's hard-coded into the site's source, and Eddie has more important things to worry about than fixing it (assuming it can be changed, which may not be possible without a total code overhaul).
(Insert And Knowing Is Half the Battle joke here.)

Sure, stock phrases are not tropes. But the problem is that people will often conflate idiomatic phrases with stock phrases. TV Tropes is "Television Tropes & Idioms". If idiomatic Stock Phrases are bad, then shouldn't the wiki's name have been updated to reflect the change in philosophy?
