Boy, that was a convenient ending. Siginificantly more annoyed at not getting answers regarding the nature of the gauna, though

To be fair though, they are kinda so alien things that their nature should remain mystery(or at least not easily figured out on last chapter), especially since there are probably more out there.

But yeah, it still feels like it was cut bit short xD

Someone on /a/ said it feel there is a volume missing. Another said it feels like the ending of Battlestar Galactica.

I don't disagree with either of those statements.

Nihei's never been too keen on explaining background details anyway. He only answered a few questions about the Blame!-verse in the supplementary artbook.

I get the feeling that the series was cut short due to budget cuts or something.

[up][up][up]Actually, my headcanon end for Galactica has always been splitting the survivors into three groups: one set of colonists on the planet, one set of humans on the remains of the rag tag fleet, and one group of integrated humans and cylinder on a base star. IMHO much better than the canon ending.

[up][up]

how can a manga suffer budget cuts, though?

[up][up]I can see a small population of humans and skin jobs joining the centurions, but the vast majority dropping industrialism in favor of a fresh start on Earth makes much more sense than a lot of people give it credit for. Recall that three years prior the fleet could barely function because gorramn everyone wanted to go down to the technically-fertile splotch of land on New Caprica.

Compare that to an an entire planet compatible with Kobol-Colonial biology. Especially when the last planet they found was a nuclear hellscape, and that this paradise was discovered by what can only be described as divine intervention.

Now the transition was certainly far too abrupt, though the extended cut does it better, but the writers admitted that they spent to much time making shit up and didn't give themselves enough time to properly conclude the epic.

But to bring this back to the topic, yeah there are very strong similarities to both New Caprica and Daybreak in this ending, both in content and pacing.

Re-starting this thread with two questions:

1. What's this about a prequel brought up here in page 5?

2. Heard the animated versions are on Netflix. Which language? Japanese dub only with subtitles, English dub, or both?

I can't say that I know anything about the prequel story; Netflix has English, Japanese, and Spanish dubs, with English and Spanish subs.

Knights of Sidonia is leaving Netflix on July 3, 2019.

So if anyone hasn't finished in all these years, they better get to it.

(*bolts for Netflix because he hasn't finished it in all these years.*)

Didn't Netflix just kind...forget this show existed after season 2?

Netflix Original does not mean actually original to Netflix, just that they own the license. In this case, Polygon had announced that season 3 was in the works a year or two back but there’s been no word on it ever since.

[up] Yeah, it's an annoying habit of Netflix of labelling both the things they have commissioned themselves and things they just have an exclusive license to as a "Netflix Original"

I mean, it's possible they'll re-up the license, but I'm not going to hold my breath.

Already finished the episode "Adrift", and holy crap this show is getting brutal what with sudden turnings of Sidonia means a grisly and splatter-y death if you're not latched onto something. Jesus.

Finished the show last night.

Kunato and his sister getting mindjacked by a teeny-tiny dude? That ain't right... And the wiggly thingie in their eye gave me nasty flashbacks to the early promo images for The Strain. Squick.

And another Crimson Hawk Moth? I wouldn't be surprised if we end up seeing a fleet of those giggly creeps...

By the way, for those wondering about why season 3 is taking so long, I think it's entirely possible because they want to rectify certain things that left readers of the manga somewhat unpleased...

[up] I didn't want to say anything to avoid hurting the feelings of any LGBTQ members, but...

MANGA SPOILERS INCOMING:

The distant finale showed that while Nagate hooked up with Tsumugi, whose mind got uploaded into an ena that looked like Hoshijiro and they got a daughter, Yuhata became a male cyborg to hook up with Izana.

In light of Pride Month, unless there have been moments in the manga where Yuhata considered being a male, it feels like it'd be in poor taste to have a female getting a sex change just to hook up with another girl she has grown to love.

That said, if Yuhata really DID have moments where she thought of being a male, then I'll take back everything I said just now.

It's just pair the spares and a side note of how gender neutral is Sidonia.

By the way, in the movie the Gauna did come up with a whole squad of Moths based on Yamato, not Hoshijiro.
