Looks like a lot of the examples on here would be better served in Real Life Writes the Plot. There's also a suggestion on the talk page to make a separate trope for pregnancies written into shows (the alternative to Hide Your Pregnancy).

EDIT: Just noticed that non-hidden pregnancy already has it's own subsection of Written-in Infirmity, so that doesn't need updating. Just the misplaced examples.

The problem might be that the definition includes too many examples of specific events turning into plot for stories, which is exactly what the examples are following.

This trope might need examples that take into account context or metaphor rather than plot points. For example, the "reality subtext" of a narrative could be larger political and social events but which are not explicitly referenced within the work itself. For example, seventies American horror >>> the Vietnam War.
