I was over-elaborating to clarify my point, but the (mis)interpretation doesn't have to be complicated. Just seeing the image as "monster swallowing chests" (as mentioned further up the page and in one of the earlier threads) isn't unlikely, and it doesn't suggest the idea of "adventurer finds chests in bizarre places"—hence the call for a clarifying caption. I just think that it would be easier to use the full comic in the first place, since that really makes it clear.

"If that text makes that big a difference, it might not be a good image."

Ideally, I would have preferred an image that actually does show a chest being found in an inexplicable location, as opposed to just showing a joking explanation for the phenomenon. But considering that no such image has been found in the past, this seems to be the best we have to work with for now. (And at the very least, it would be better than the current image.)

Why do all of the suggestions include the last panel of the strip? What does it add in terms of illustrating the trope?

A punchline, presumably.

Clear, concise, witty. Being funny or otherwise awesome is about as equally desirable as illustrating the trope.

This trope always reminds of this comic.

I have a message from another time...

Clock is set. 11 + a caption?

I think it should have a note asking editors not to add a caption.

I hate the current. I am all in favor of 11.

11, yes. Caption, I still like 17 (ignoring that I'm the one who suggested it, those cows in Master Quest were weird).

I actually like 17, and since the clock's up, it's time to roll on this. 11 is up, potholed, and tagged, and I've added 17 as the caption although I haven't noted it in the tag since we don't have a lot of consensus. Locking up.
