I understand that and completely agree that Wally was crapped on.

I don't however agree with the bigotry that's presented in those comments. None of those concerns that were aired were stated by those "fans" or at least that I can see.

Oh, I don't mind agreeing to the fact that there is a lot of racism to it. My main gripe is the Wally I grew up reading about is gone. The young sidekick nephew of Barry who had to take up the mantle after his mentor died, sharing a history with all the other young sidekicks? gone. His really, really well written and touching coming into his own from a rather shallow playboy into a loving boyfriend turned husband and father? Gone.

Seriously, a story I'm fond of is he and Linda sold their love to Neron to save the day...and it was so strong it turned Neron into a kind and caring demon until he literally begged them to take it back.

Seconded not denying the racism some Wally fans indulge in.

[up][up]Basically. There's legitimate criticism and the there's "He's black! Kill him!" The vast majority of the criticism of New 52 Wally I've seen tends to fall into the latter.

Really cool piece by Francis Manapul.

Manapul's art is the bomb. I would kill for a whole Flash and/or Green Arrow series by him set in the TV-verse.

Manapul is a terrific artist, but not the best writer.

[up]Disagreed on number one, at least in the general form. Specifically, yeah, having an older Flash that Barry is already a fan of would be... weird, but having him be a fan of comics people start making about him would be fantastic.

1) Agree with [up]

2) Yeah, keep that thing out.

3) While they have a point that it may strain the show's budget, I'd prefer that they use time travel often (not every other episode, but once or twice a season could be interesting).

4) Disagree. They probably should tone it down a bit, but I think that it could lead to interesting storylines on the long term.

5) Same as 4. Creative use of powers is cool.

6) They seem to be already going in this direction in the show.

7) Disagree.

8) I actually like that he is the one who caused his powers.

Andrew Kreisberg says he wants to try to get every actor from the original series onto the Flash.

“We want to bring on everybody from the original show,” Kreisberg said. “For us, that show was a triumphant success, and we loved it as teenagers, and to get to do this now is just beyond our wildest dreams.”

On the one hand, COOL!

On the other, the only people anyone's going to remember from the original show are John Wesley Shipp (who they have) and Mark Hamill. Anyone else is going to get a "who the hell is that?" from the audience.

Don't see that as a problem. Actors get work, producers get to respect people they liked when they liked when they were younger and the audience won't know 90% of actors they could/will hire anyway.

I'd never heard of the guy who's playing Barry this time round.

@Melon: I'd like to see the IMP later on in the series. Especially since right now, the Flash can only break the sound barrier, but I'm assuming that he gets faster as the series goes on.

So does that mean Mark Hamill's going to be in the show? If Jay Garrick exists in this universe, I could see him playing one of his enemies.

[up]If he wants to be on the show he would.

It is just that the producers of the Flash were fans of the 90s Flash show so they want to get as many people from the original as they can get.

In the comics, did we ever meet the Trickster's father? I don't know if Mark could physically handle being James Jesse again, but he could be his dad.

[up][up]20 years ago. The fact that I remember the lead actor and the show's most memorable recurring villian and not the female lead should say a lot about how memorable she was.

So what ? I had to Google more than one character they cast. You think Heatwave or even Captain Cold means much to the general public ?

Arrow did fine with shout outs that went over the heads of people, Flash will do the same. If a viewer remembers her, yay them. If not, no harm. They're not selling the show based on any of the old actors coming back.
