And if you asked her, she'd probably say it's imouto power or something like that.
What's odd is that no one in-universe thought it was weird at the time...
Yeah, at this point I'm willing to bet that the Yonomoris are of youkai descent, at least from the grandfather's side. The reason he's so friendly with the people of the mountain village because he was born there too.

So Benio gets all the superhuman genes, and Kobeni gets nothing huh?
No wait, Kobeni got all the perfect waifu genes.

She's rather blessed in the physical department too.
Mikakunin de Shinkoukei has now concluded, with 187 chapters in total.
It remained a fairly laidback Slice of Life for pretty much the entirety of its run. In fact, it's so SoL the ending barely even feels like an ending. It just kind of stops on a portrait of everyday life. While it's a fun ride if you're into moe comedy and low-key romance, it's pretty clear Cherry-Arai wasn't out to tell the story of the world's most passionate courtship or anything like that.
In the end, Mashiro remains the MVP, and Konoha remains the loveably-inept Butt-Monkey dark horse.
However, Ui Komagamine — Mashiro's cousin, unseen in the anime, who looks identical to her minus about eight years — managed to upstage both in her (sadly infrequent) appearances. A single panel of Ui stamping documents while pretending to be "'tudent council prez" is pure weapons-grade diabetes, which feels like it should be regulated by the Geneva Convention.
Damn, talk about a necro from a decade ago.
It’s unfortunate the anime never got a continuation. But with the manga completed I guess it’s finally time to buckle down and read it.
I'm the only one who's been keeping the work page up to date with the manga, and I just got done putting in the entries from the finale, so I figured I might as well update the thread with the news.
It's a yonkoma, so it's a pretty breezy read at 10-12 pages a chapter. Plus, halfway through, she switches to the wide yonkoma format. There's only four panels per page, which makes it even breezier to get through.
Ah sorry, didn’t mean the necro as a criticism, more like “what a blast from the past”. Would you happen to know at what point in the manga the anime ends on?
I wasn't offended, just explaining my reason.

Manga Updates says chapter 58, but the anime's last episode was completely original, so I'm not sure what the exact cutoff point is. It's so Slice of Life-y it kind of blends together. I think there's also some significant differences too. I remember being surprised that Mashiro didn't have her UMA toy obsession for quite a while into the manga's run.
Hmm. I guess I could just read from the start. 58 chapters of 10-14 pages each isn’t so bad.
It's been a while since I've read the beginning, but IIRC you may need to wade through some really stiff machine translation. Also, the art starts off kind of wonky. I wouldn't be surprised if chapter 1 was the first time Cherry Arai had put a stylus to a tablet in her life.
But both of them get much better as they go along.
Yeah, it just kinda ended, no drama.
Oh wow, this series has a thread. This was such a cute and funny series (Mashiro is the best), and I'm looking forward to whatever future project the author releases in the future.
Frankly, I'm surprised she doesn't have something else going on already. This is the same woman who was once serialized in all four Manga Time Kirara magazines at the same time. Until 2022, she's had at least two manga in serialization since her career started. This is the first time she hasn't had a manga in serialization in over 20 years.

I've launched a work page for Cherry Arai's other recent series, Musunde, Tsunaide, which ran from 2019 to 2022 (concurrently with Mikakunin de Shinkoukei). Beware though, the manga has a lot of First-Episode Twist, so the page is quite spoiler-heavy.
It's a Manga Time Kirara series, so I'll post more about it in the general Kirara thread.
I actually watched this raw, and yeah, this OVA was the one that had danger arrows pointed against Benio being "normal". Whereas the previous one could have been brushed off as Rule of Funny, little Benio casually jumping up the jungle gym was definitely not played off as a joke.
