Nahhhh. Bayonetta seems much more floaty and indistinct than DMC (3 and 4). All the weapons have too many moves in common to really differentiate. Plus you only get a couple weapons without specifically looking for them, which for someone who's used to getting them from the story can be pretty disconcerting when you're 2/3 done and still have only two weapons.

Dopants: He meant what he said and he said what he meant, a Ninety is faithful 100%.I might as well say it here, but I had a tougher time grasping Bayonetta's gameplay than I did with DMC 3 and 4. I can't say it's because I don't think it's good, but I think it just feels too different from what I'm used to. Maybe because all the emphasis on dodging and witch time makes it feel awkward and floaty to me. Maybe I just need practice, but I never felt the urge to replay Bayonetta like I do with games like DMC or MGR.
But back to Onimusha, comparing it to Japanese folklore does seem very appropriate. And I do remember that cutscene with Samanosuke and the kid. It felt a little out of place to me, but I may rewatch it to get a better understanding of the context.
Also, it seems like it's a thing with the series to model some of the protagonists after celebrities, is that right? I know about Jean Reno and that Samanosuke is modeled after a guy.

@Corr:I've seen the anime. Loved the crap out of it. I'd honestly like to see more of that, if there even is a future for the IP.
I didn't find Bayonetta's combat to be that dissimilar to DMC, DMC 4 especially.
PM box is Closed, Indefinitely Friend Code: 3368-4181-6850Yes, Sam is modeled after an actor and so is Jubei. The actor even voices Sam in the original Japanese version. This could be why in Capcom's Anniversary Encyclopedia of Characters thing that just came out, only Soki from Oni 4 was there. Sam is the iconic character of the series but neither he nor Kaede nor anyone else was in it. (they even had Sengoku Basara Nobunaga but not Onimusha Nobunaga) A guy explained this is probably to do with all the complications of using real life people's likenesses. Every time you want to use a picture or something, you gotta get permission.
This could also be why there is no Onimusha HD Collection.

Which is shame in my opinion. Though, on the other hand it motivated me to get a PS 2 and all the Onimusha games again. So yeah.
Bayonetta is better then both series combined.
Gameplay wise, anyhow.
