Your Honor...I just don't get why third parties are able to make content claims like that.
well at the very least, im fairly sure my beloved strawhatno upload to blip alongside youtube (well, i know they did, but im hoping they still do) so i can at least still watch their stuff if it goes down. kinda worried about the freelance astronauts...

They're good. Let me go put up my Redneck Shotgun.
Your Honor..."I just don't get why third parties are able to make content claims like that."
It's their content, pretty much, and the players are making money off it. A Let's Play isn't a limited use for commentary/criticism purposes, it's a complete play through of the game. The same goes for the one doing cut-scenes rearranged into little movies.
But if you're doing a Lets Play for fun and no profit; is that okay?
🏳️⚧️she/her | Vio Rhyse AlberiaDoes it affect videos with no monetization?
"If you aren't him, then you apparently got your brain from the same discount retailer, so..." - FighteerDon't they dare go near Brain Scratch Commentaries or SomeCallMeJohnny or SGB Bros. All three Runaway Guys too.
Now's it's Shulk Time! Also I feel the need to add that all this does is prevent people from making money off this. For some, this is pretty much their career.
"But if you're doing a Lets Play for fun and no profit; is that okay?"
I believe so. The videos aren't being taken down, just they aren't allowed to be monetized.
oh. thank god.
I'm not talking about the game companies, like Nintendo or EA. I'm talking about the people who have no right to the content themselves making claims against people that do have the right to use the content. Those are the ones that the article you posted are talking about.

Probably music or other content included in the game.
That reminds me of the time Minecraft Style was taken down by Sony and Universal.
Makes sense to me.
Your Honor...If they're the ones that own it, okay, but still people are able to make claims that they should not be allowed to. This guy has a whole FAQ about people making claims against videos for using his music, even though he allows it.
I honestly don't know then. I'm sure they have a reason behind it, though.
Pretty much this. Youtube is the one doing this, not the gaming companies. Granted, they're doing this because of the companies but...
So tl;dr, youtube's decided to kill Let's Play'ing? Understandable, and definitely in line with copyright law as it exists now. Anyone whose livelihood IS LPing? Sucks to be you, but you should have seen this coming. Just because the viewers of a Lets Play can't actually play the game doesn't mean that uploading a video of a play through isn't infringing on IP law.
This is a signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine. They can still LP. Just not make money off of it, which is more than justified enough.
Not their product, after all.
...It's weird having so many websites and no way to properly display now, lol.I feel they're gonna lose Pew Die Pie over this.
So basically youtube is killing LPing. If they're making money off the video, make a claim, get their ad revenues, youtuber likely kills the partnership and might quit making videos all-together. If they're not making money off their video, make a claim, they get banned.
So? Pew Die Pie and his lot depend on youtube, not the other way around.

This seems to be in relation to the "affiliate" vs "managed" changes You Tube are implementing soon apparently that was announced a few days ago. http://cramgaming.com/youtube-getting-tough-video-game-monetization-12989/
Hundreds of content ID claims (which the channels affected say means it results in no more earnings off from the video content ID claimed anymore but instead the earnings going to the copyright owner) now being issued every minute it seems between hundreds of large gaming channels:
http://www.tubefilter.com/2013/12/10...gaming-videos/
Some of the large You Tube gaming channels currently detailing constant updates on receiving content ID claims, and many saying the claims are coming from erroneous companies like BAFTA, etc., every few minutes:
Many of the creators whose videos have been flagged are among the most popular on You Tube. The Rad Brad, a gamer whose walkthroughs have earned him nearly two million subscribers and multiple appearances on our Top You Tube Channel Charts, has seen many of his videos flagged, with background music serving as the culprit. Other gamers, such as Tetraninja and Ghost Robo, have seen their videos cited as well, with offenses sometimes as trivial as infringing background music playing within a game.
